Chapter Five

Freda’s POV

The bidding started before I could even breathe.

The dining hall—meant for celebration—had been rearranged into something ugly. Tables pushed back. Chairs dragged to face the Alpha like some twisted theater audience. And me… dragged to the front beside him like a thing to be displayed.

Not a wolf.

Not a girl.

Just an object.

The room felt too small for all the eyes tearing into me.

Sun Blood Pack never dealt with slaves. Never. Yet tonight, with visitors from other packs filling the hall and liquor softening their morals, they suddenly acted like this was normal.

My stomach tightened.

Slave.

Was that my fate now?

I wasn’t a princess, but I had never been branded—or priced.

I thought turning eighteen meant freedom from maltreatment. Instead, it felt like I had stepped into a deeper hell.

My gaze drifted—stupid, hopeful—and landed on Adrian.

He sat beside Nina.

She leaned into him, whispering something behind her hand, her lips brushing too close to his ear. Adrian didn’t pull away. He didn’t even look uncomfortable. He simply stared ahead as if I didn't once mean something to him.

When he finally turned and our eyes met, a cold shudder rolled through me.

When did this start?

He used to ignore her… treat her like she didn’t exist.

But now they looked practiced—comfortable.

Like lovers.

A voice boomed beside me. “Good evening, everyone!”

I jerked my head toward Beta Jaden, who stood proudly like this was some grand event. “I know this wasn’t part of the agenda, but I promise this side attraction will interest every single one of you. Who doesn’t want someone to ease their workload?”

Murmurs spread across the room, excitement flickering through the gathered packs. The heat of their attention pressed against my skin until I could barely breathe.

Jaden grinned, riding the energy. “Exactly. A dream come true, yes?”

He turned to me, eyes gleaming with something that felt like cruelty wrapped in cheerfulness. “And tonight, someone’s dream is about to come true.”

“Can we get this over with?” Alpha Ron snapped, boredom dripping from every word. He flicked his fingers toward me as if I were a stain. “Move it along. I don’t want to stare at that all evening.”

That.

The word stung deeper than any blow.

He used to care about me. Or at least pretend to.

Jaden cleared his throat. “Right. Apologies.”

He stepped forward, voice ringing out. “This Omega, Freda Aton, is hardworking, obedient, and trained in every domestic task. She cooks, cleans, and takes instructions well. She’ll make a perfect helper for anyone who buys her.”

Each word stripped something off me.

The hall quieted, everyone suddenly alert.

“Starting bid,” Jaden announced, “is fifty gold pieces.”

My heart slammed painfully against my ribs.

Silence stretched…

Then—

“Sixty.”

A deep voice from the right.

My eyes darted to the source—a muscular wolf from the Dark Claw Pack. His gaze crawled over me in a way that made my skin crawl.

“Seventy.”

Another.

A woman this time, her tone sharp and businesslike.

The room woke up.

“Eighty!”

“Ninety!”

“One hundred!”

My pulse hammered with each shout.

They weren’t bidding for a chair or a bottle of wine.

They were bidding for me.

My knees trembled. I tried to keep my head high, but every number felt like a slap.

“One fifty!” someone yelled.

Jaden practically vibrated with excitement. “Now we’re talking!”

My eyes flicked to Adrian again.

Nothing.

No anger.

No shock.

Just cold silence.

Nina whispered something else. He didn’t push her away. He smiled at her, linking their fingers together.

A hollow ache spread in my chest.

“One seventy!”

“One eighty!”

“Two hundred!”

A loud voice boomed from the back—Alpha Rowan of Iron Mane Pack. A giant of a man. Known for brutality. The kind of alpha who didn’t hire help… he broke them.

Terror shot through me.

Jaden’s grin widened. “Two hundred going once!”

“Two twenty.”

A calm, unfamiliar voice cut through the room.

Heads turned.

A hooded man stood near the door. Tall. Still. Shadowed. I couldn’t make out his face, but something about him pulled the air from the room. He didn’t look excited. Or eager. Just… certain.

Jaden hesitated. “Uh—two twenty from… the gentleman by the door.”

Alpha Rowan growled. “Two fifty.”

My breath hitched.

No.

Not him.

Jaden lifted his arm dramatically. “Two fifty going once—!”

“Three hundred.”

The hooded man didn’t raise his voice, yet everyone heard it clear.

A hush fell.

Even Jaden froze.

Three hundred was outrageously high for an Omega.

Alpha Rowan’s jaw tightened. His hand twitched as if ready to tear someone apart. But after a long, tense moment, he sank back into his seat, muttering curses.

Jaden recovered quickly, voice trembling with excitement. “Three hundred going once! Going twice—!”

His gaze swept the room, daring anyone to counter.

Silence.

“Sold!” Jaden slammed his hand down. “To the gentleman by the door!”

My chest constricted.

Sold.

I was officially someone’s property.

The hooded man stepped forward, slow and deliberate.

And as he approached, the faintest whisper brushed my ear—

the same voice I heard in the dungeon.

“Freda.”

My blood turned cold.

Could it have been this man calling my name in the dungeon?

Freda’s POVMy gaze moved to the man I had always considered a father until the day he decided to reject me. His eyes narrowed at me. And I could tell from the way he itched his hand that he wanted to do something, but all he did was chuckle and moved back. “Sorry. I didn’t mean it that way.”He meant it that way. And I knew his apology wasn’t sincere. He had seen what we did to Clayton and knew he was not much against us. I looked away from him as if he didn’t exist to me. “Fine.”“We’re ready to cooperate with you both.”Craig looked at me, linking his hand with mine. “Great. Cause we are ready to rebuild the whole Moon Blood Pack.”They exchanged handshakes and soon left the hall. The injured were moved out of the hall. And those who had plotted a coup against us with Clayton would be punished after they were already treated. None of us could sleep. It was a long night. I spent the night healing my friends without Craig's knowledge. We spoke about the things we had encounter

Craig's POVI groaned as I pulled Clayton’s right hand while Freda pulled his left hand. Defeating him was easier than actually pulling him back to the hall. The wolves we had defeated were still on the floor. Clayton remained motionless, and we pulled him down the hall, his body leaving trails of blood all over. The hall was silent. No servant was moving the tray like earlier. In fact, it felt like there was no living thing in the hall. The noises in the hall had reduced significantly. It felt like nothing was happening at all in the hall. The fighting had ended, but the hall was far from quiet.Groans echoed from every corner.Injured wolves struggled to stand while others helped carry the wounded away.We pulled Clayton in, and everyone’s attention turned on us. Stephen was the one who broke the silence. “Did you guys really?” His gaze moved to Clayton in our hand, and we let him go. Clayton dropped on the floor with a loud thud. Freda’s POVThe floor shifted under my feet. I had never healed someone with the rate of injury Craig had. It had drained every part of me, but if the occasion called for it. I was going to do it over and over again. Clayton stood in front of us, his eyes wide in excitement, then he pointed at me. “I want her too.”Craig didn’t let the words land before pouncing on him. Clayton crashed on the floor, taking with him a few pieces of the furniture in the room. He groaned. I started to get myself back, and my hand balled into a fist. I wasn’t a thing to be owned by him. He smiled. “Don’t tell me this is the one with the mark? The one the prophecy claimed would defeat me.” His eyes trailed all over me. “She looked kind of little to defeat me.”Again, Craig punched him. For every word he spoke against me, he seemed to be earning Craig’s ire. “She really is the one.” He coughed. “After I defeat you both, she would make a good sex partner for Ron. Maybe I would let you hear how she enjoys

  • The Mysterious Alpha    One Hundred and Twenty One

Craig’s POVClayton was just three doors away from us. It was no wonder the guards were trying so hard to stop us then. As soon as I opened the door, he froze. His hands were on cash, he was stuffing into a small bag. He looked up at him, stashing the last fold into the bag. “What do you want?”His voice was hoarse. I frowned at him. I guess shouting and scamming people out of their things could make one tired. “You know very well what I want.”He breathed in. “Fine. If you want to be the Alpha of the Moon Blood Pack, I will give it to you. I’m not going to fight you over something that doesn’t belong to me.”My eyes narrowed at him. Was this some sort of trick to let me down, my guard?I refused to. I walked confidently into the room, closing the door behind me. Freda waited outside. She claimed she would handle anyone who tried to open the door and interrupt my small ‘meeting’ with Clayton.“I’m glad you know this throne doesn’t belong to you. And it’s finally time you give it

Freda’s POVCraig frowned at me. “You know where he could have gone to?”I nodded. “Remember, I used to work here to gather information.”“Don’t remind me.” He hit his forehead lightly. “I used to have a headache thinking of you getting easily caught here. I just wanted you to stop whatever you were doing here.”We moved out of the chaos. Almost everyone was engaged in a fight, apart from those who weren’t interested in involving themselves in the case. I led him towards the hallway. “Well, now my hard work is paying off. If I hadn’t come to work here, I wouldn’t have guessed where that fat pig could be.”Craig snorted, “Can you stop calling him a fat pig? It makes all this sound funny when it’s anything but.”I knew. That was exactly why I kept on saying that. I hope to lighten the mood. “But he is nothing but a fat pig. You haven’t seen where he was eating before.”I pretended to retch. Craig laughed. “I guess you are right then. But we need to move faster before the fat pig e

He had introduced me back to society. It was my turn to make it all rightGreg and Drey had somehow found their way beside me. They were alert, ready to attack whoever wanted to attack me. The guards were staring at us, and everyone was.Until someone shouted. “I thought he was the murderer. Didn’t he kill his parents then?”And then, everyone had something to say about my innocence or not all at once. It was the type of controversial issue we had aimed for. We knew some would still blindly trust in Clayton. And that was why we were ready to fight beyond the evidence. “I thought there was some strange prophecy surrounding him or something. What’s really going on?”Stephen screamed, his voice echoing around the hall. “I’ll tell you all what’s going on? The Moon Blood Pack had been under the rule of a tyrant. A tyrant
