Chapter One

“Hey, Ophelia, have you completed the assignment that Mr. Reed has given?” One of the colleagues asked with a deep frown etching between his brows.

“Yes, I already did, and I also hope that you also did, Ellon, because this will be the third time this month that you will miss the deadline of assignment, and I think Mr. Reed’s patience is limited for you if you again make the same mistake.” Ophelia sighed when she said these words.

“I…..” Ellon stammered,

“You didn’t, Ellon? Really?” Ophelia sighed.

“I was busy yesterday, so I didn’t get the time to do the assignment,” Ellon said sullenly.

Ophelia knows his ‘busy’ is that he went to the pub, but she didn’t expose his secret.

“Okay, this will be the last time I will help you, and from now you are your own if there are any assignments” With that, Ophelia gives her assessment to Ellon.

Then she took her seat to look through another case.

Ophelia Evans, twenty-three-year-old, passed out from college, working under Mr. Daron Reed as an assistant lawyer.

Well, about myself, I was an orphan raised in an orphanage until I turned eighteen, then I moved out from the orphanage and lived by myself while working part-time.

Ophelia looks through another follow-up case for which she will work as an assistant because many college fresh outs are under Mr. Reed to practice and get experience.

Every two or three-person will be grouped as assistant lawyers to Mr. Reed for every case; every fresh out will get practical experience with this.

This new case is about a typical murder case, where a man killed more than ten people for what? Just because his wife betrayed him.

Ophelia just sighed, thinking about life in just a moment.

It can be gone in just a second if a person is careless.

After that, she didn’t think much, just looking through and also made some notes,

Tomorrow will be hearing, and they are fighting for the justice of the latest girl a criminal killed; and.

After making some notes, she discussed with her group going to court and her as Mr. Reed’s assistants.

She, Ellon, and another girl are going to participate in this case with Mr. Reed.

They are seated in the small conference room reserved for the group who will participate in the case.

Because it is like a group discussion, you guys will discuss there, and your superior will see you through the monitors, just like companies’ workings.

This style was quite good as Mr. Reed isn’t only a lawyer and a teacher; his style is entirely different.

So many who practiced under him are now very famous lawyers in the industry.

They hardly lose any cases; because of this, many choose Mr. Reed as their guide.

Whoever got the chance to work under him has always been very much excited.

Manny fought hard to get a chance to practice here.

Ophelia didn’t have any enthusiasm about their job, maybe because her mindset is different from others.

Maybe because of that, she was the only one who got a direct call letter from Mr. Reed joined his firm, which made much awe and bought many jealous gazes.

But Ophelia, being herself, chooses to ignore everything.

All of them started to discuss,

“I think this case is tricky from one point; we can’t say he is mentally ill because he will get away from the punishment,” another girl, Mona, said with a sad sigh.

As they are all fighting for justice for a girl that the criminal killed,

Other than winning a case, they also want justice for that girl's soul.

But their case is tricky as if the person is declared mentally ill, then his killing wasn’t considered killing; instead, it will be regarded as done by a mentally disabled person, and he will be released.

“I want to kill him. How can he kill so many girls? They aren’t even twenty, but they are already dead, and their parents know what they are going through, sigh,” Ellon commented.

He has always been the aggressive type; he hardly controls his temper, even in the courtroom.

Many times both Mona And Ophelia have to calm him.

Ophelia has always been a calmer one; she will always talk about the points that should be pointed out; she has always been a rational one, even in the mock courtroom, also she would pull Ellon Mona Together.

[Author Note: Mock CourtRoom, is just I made up, I don’t know there will be things like this or not, but I think that things like this good, this courtroom is for the groups where they will fight against Mr. Reed for cases]

One will be aggressive, always shouting if things go overboard, and another will panic instantly when things went wrong, so she is always calm and rational to make things in their favor.

Ophelia always thinks that Mr. Reed actually planned the groups like this because he wants to correct everyone’s weak points, and that will only be done when people with strong points and weak points, in contrast, would be together.

Ophelia is calm, Ellon is aggressive, and Monais timid: they are grouped to work on their weak points and stabilize their strong points.

”We can’t always expect things to be straight and open; if that criminal were straight, then he would have already been caught when he was murdered for the first time.

And the police wouldn’t take so much time and let another nine murders happen; if they can find the clue at first, then there is no need for nine other girls to die; this case may be tricky.

But at least we can fight hard and try to get justice for all the girls if we can; this is our main priority also, so let’s move on and work on our best to fight hard” Ophelia knows that this case is a little bit serious and also tricky.

And she also thinks this case is sensitive because it is a murder case, but the murderer is mentally unsound, as he killed many girls for no substantial reason.

After all, his girlfriend cheated on him, so he killed ten girls; he found out he cheated on their boyfriend or spouse.

That was one point, the murderer only killed who were cheating on their partners,

And the second one is, he was only killing girls.

They can conclude that he punishes others because of his bad experience, against the law and humanity.

And his mind has twisted in a horrible way that he gets satisfaction in killing others.

Disgusting way of thinking...

Because with law, everyone has to study psychology as one of the subjects to understand mindsets.

Ophelia knows this case will be a tough fight for them as new to the court, but she believes that for Mr. Reed, this case is just a small one as they have fought many mysterious circumstances, which are a whale different from the real intention of the case.

So, she isn’t overly anxious, just some excitement that is bubbling inside her as she feels that the courtroom isn’t far away from the warzone where we use swords in war and words in court.

As they discussed what they have the chances of winning, which points are beneficial, and what type of arguments they do, they have a high probability of winning, and who we have to ask as our witness or related person and what we have to ask them.

With that, they all concluded their discussion, then they all produced their discussion notes to Mr. Reed’s secretary, who looks over all the works of the firm and institution, where those fresh out law students who want to learn under Mr. Reed.

They all have to follow the rules and how this firm is made, just like school children.

After giving their discussion report, they all left,

“Ophelia, wanna join us for dinner? It’s already late; can we get something out?” Mona Asked; she has always been nervous whenever she talks with Ophelia, maybe because Ophelia is different from whoever she has contact with. Many are because of her strong aura, which is even more dominating than any men out there.

She always felt Ophelia isn’t someone from their world. Although, maybe she is higher than any ordinary woman in terms of looks, personality, and ability.

Looking at the nervous look on Mona, the refuse which is in her tip of the tongue didn’t come out, she swallowed those words and nodded slowly,

Mona’s face bloomed with a big smile. Then, after nodding happily like a child, she started to nag Ellon, acting as a mighty high lord.

Looking at the scene, Ophelia smiled,

They have no deep bond; still, for Ophelia, they both may be considered as first friends in her whole life, so because of that, she always helped them out many times, even Ellon, who always takes advantage of her and always copies her assignment.

Mona Has always been shy, hardly talks with anyone, and now she is taking the initiative. It is a massive thing for her.

Now she is asking for a hangout. Even if Ophelia has no interest in going out, that is also with someone, she couldn’t say no to Mona, as they all are now in the group working together.

And maybe her heart also wants someone close to her to talk about everything like girls nowadays do with their besties.
