LOGINAs I continued to stare at him, the threat of that day replayed inside my head. He said the next time he came, it was going to be my funeral. And this was the first time I had seen him since the time he slapped me across my cheek. “Ack”. I swallowed the invisible lump in my throat as his eyes met mine. It was sudden and made me feel like my spirit jumped out of my body and returned. I immediately turned my face away from him, but when I glanced in his direction, my eyes widened when I saw him walking towards us. I opened my mouth but could not bring myself to say something. “What's wrong?”. Marvin asked me, but I could not reply to him.“Is it because of him?”. He asked after noticing who I was staring at. But still, I remained quiet and looked terrified. “Wait here for me and don't go anywhere”. He said, before he rose from his seat and walked forward to meet him. After he left, no one needed to tell me anything. I didn't even think about it. I just acted as fast as I could.
I heard faint footsteps and knew it was him. But, I remained lying in bed and dared not open my eyes, because I knew what might come for me if I did that. He sat next to me on the bed and removed the few strands of hair that covered my face. “I see, you have accepted me. That's great, Georgina”. He muttered. ‘She must have told him’. I thought, and was not happy about it. But looking at the brighter side, I knew I had to be happy. Because now, he would lose his guard over me, and I would be able to escape from him when he least expects it. A month later, “You are going to come with me to the Grand opening”. Marvin said to me, but I did not reply to him. All I did was smile innocently at him like the pretty doll he wanted. He then turned to the maidservants. “Dress her pretty. I want my beloved wife to outshine everyone out there”. “Understood, Master Marvin”. They bowed their heads and replied to him, before they took me with them to the room to freshen up and get changed. A
Claire's pov,I was inside my room. More like, I had locked myself in after being questioned by my father. He had seen the news about my accident, and kept on questioning me if I had done that on purpose. I had to deny the truth, of course. I could not possibly tell him that I had put myself in harm's way just because I wanted Marvin’s attention. The same attention I did not want anymore. He was a dangerous man, and I was lucky enough to get away from him unscathed. But there might not be a next time. In that case, I must be smart enough not to cross paths with him again. But that didn't mean I would stop tormenting that jinx. As long as she was alive, I wouldn't cease ruining her life! Anytime I thought of her, I could not help but get angry, because I hated the fact that everything my father owned once belonged to her mother. That was a big slap to my face, and it was something I could not bear to live with. With her being alive, I was afraid the truth might come to light on
“Are you surprised?”. My father asked me. I guess the shocked expression on my face was so obvious. Though that didn't end there. He walked towards me and halted in front of me. Then he squatted as he stared into my eyes with those pair of dangerous red eyes that looked exactly like Marvin’s. The same pair of red eyes I inherited from him and hated. He grabbed my chin. “You don't have to know how I found out. But I am warning you, son, stay away from that jinx, unless you want to see her bleed more than she is already bleeding”. He said, threatening him.I gritted my teeth, and did not know what came over me when I shook off his hand from my face, before I yelled at him, “Don't you dare touch her, father!”.I felt the veins in my neck pop out as I said that to him. But, his eyes darkened as he continued to stare at me, and on a second thought, I grew restless and began to panic within. If I did not control myself, especially my emotion, I was only risking everything and exposin
“Make him kneel before me”. I commanded, and right at that instant, he was forced to his knees and pressed down repeatedly when he tried to stand up. “How dare you humiliate me in my own mansion, Marvin?! Are you not afraid of the consequences?!”. He yelled at me, with his face frowning and looking like he wanted to rip me apart.I sneered at him, because the expression on his face was laughable. Also his words, which hit something in my nerves and made me rise from the sofa as I stood in front of him and looked down on him. “Consequences? Me? Afraid of consequences?”. I asked, before I squatted and grabbed his neck. “I think you must have forgotten who I am”. I added while staring into his eyes, as my hand gripped his neck tightly, ready to break it if I must. “Ack!”. He began to gasp for air and grabbed my hand tightly, as he tried to break free. But even as his fingers dipped into my flesh, and even after blood began to drip on the ground, I ignored the pain and refused to le
‘If I dare act against her and succeed in getting her kicked out of the house, it won't do me any good’. ‘He will simply assign another to spy on me, and then, I might not get so lucky again in finding who the new spy was’.‘So until I get out of this place, I must continue to lie low’. “Good job, Madam. Now all you have to do is to rest by sleeping, so that the medicine is going to take effect”. I nodded at her and laid on the bed as I shut my eyes, while she helped cover my body with the blanket. “I wish you a speedy recovery, Madam”. She said, before she left. Though the second after I heard the door click closed, my eyes opened. I got out of bed and went and stood in front of the mirror, as I stared at my reflection. The familiar pale slim face. Those tired eyes. But the thing was… something had changed in me. I was tired of being trampled like an ant. I figured that if I kept on submitting to power and to their insults, they were never going to end. Mirabel might have b
