Chapter 3

作者: Nora Blythe
Keith's POV

Ever since that day Hannah left, she never came back. But she still messaged me every day, sending me photos and her location.

"I'll be away on a business trip for half a month. I'll be home soon."

I read her message but didn't reply.

I was out working, accepting rides like usual. Before I could even accept my first ride, someone rear-ended me on the highway. My car immediately crashed into the roadside barrier. I was still dizzy and disoriented when they loaded me into an ambulance.

"The victim has broken ribs and a fractured finger. He still has a heartbeat…" I couldn't make out the rest before I blacked out.

By the time I came to, I was already in a hospital room. The curtain to my left was drawn tightly, and the anesthesia hadn't worn off yet.

Suddenly, someone opened the door to the hospital room. I was about to reach for the curtain when a familiar voice made me freeze.

"I heard you rear-ended someone. Did you get hurt? We have a driver. Why didn't you have him drive you?"

Hannah's voice was laced with concern. I loosened my grip on the curtain.

So it was Cory who hit me.

Hannah rambled on until her voice eventually broke into sobs. "If something really happened to you, what would Joel and I do?"

Cory held her in his arms and gently reassured her. "I'm fine. It's just a little scrape. The guy I hit wasn't so lucky. His car crashed into the roadside barrier. The doctor said he broke two ribs."

Hearing that, Hannah finally sighed in relief. "I'm glad you're okay. I don't care about anyone else. Their medical expenses, lost wages, and whatever compensation he needs won't be an issue."

Every word Hannah said stabbed me right in the heart. If she had pulled back the curtain, she would realize that the person Cory hit was me. But she didn't.

Beyond the curtain, the two figures held each other. Eventually, I heard the rustling of their clothes.

"We're still in the hospital." Hannah's voice was tinged with coyness.

"Don't worry. His anesthesia hasn't worn off yet. That accident really shook me up. You have to make it up to me."

Since there was only a curtain between us, their voices came through clearly. I felt my stomach churn and almost threw up.

I stared at the grayish-white ceiling, my fists clenched tightly. The pain slowly spread through my body.

I had no idea how much time had passed before the hospital room fell silent again.

After the anesthesia had completely worn off, the searing pain almost made me black out.

I took a deep breath. Only then did I notice a follow request on Instagram on my phone by the window. After accepting it, I realized it was Cory.

A moment later, I received a message from him. "Send me your bank account number. I'll transfer money to you as compensation for hitting you. What a coincidence. You drove my son and me the other day. If you ever need anything in the future, just let me know."

Cory was just as friendly as before. He even sent me a sticker. Still, I didn't respond to his message.

Acting on impulse, I opened his profile. It was filled with photos of him and Hannah together—from five years ago up until now.

In 2021, they got married overseas. In those photos, they were smiling so happily. The diamond ring glimmered in the sunlight.

I remembered that day clearly. Hannah had broken down in tears, telling me she owed a huge sum of money.

I sold the house and the car, gave up a business opportunity with my friend, and started driving for a rideshare service. I completed 27 rides in a day without even eating.

In 2022, their son was born.

I was hospitalized with acute myocarditis and went into cardiac arrest three times. To this day, she still had no idea about it.

I tightened my grip on my phone as a surge of hatred welled up inside me. Then I closed Cory's profile.

Keith's POVThe next time I saw Hannah, my career had advanced to a whole new level. I wasn't the same guy who used to drive for a rideshare company. "Keith, why didn't you tell me you were leaving the country to start a business? Do you have any idea how long I've been looking for you?" Hannah asked, a tinge of hurt in her voice. I answered with a smile, "You didn't tell me you married another man and had his son either."Hannah went pale for a moment, and she quickly explained, "I'll explain everything to you soon. But I've already divorced him. "The truth is, I was never bankrupt. I've been lying to you all these years. If you want to start a business, I can—"Before Hannah could even finish speaking, I snorted. "Back then, you pretended to be poor. That's why I missed my chance to make money. Hannah, I don't care for your money."After all, I already made money on my own.Just as Hannah was about to say something, someone called my name. Seeing Hannah standing next to me

Third-Person POVHannah remembered how she had pretended to be bankrupt so she could be with Cory. Keith had even given up the opportunity to work overseas and help her pay off her so-called debts. In the end, he went abroad after all.She seemed to realize something and asked William in a trembling voice, "When did Keith go abroad?"Even though he had no idea why Hannah was asking, he answered truthfully, "Yesterday."Yesterday was the day Hannah had gone to be with Cory and Joel.Had Keith already found out about them?Hannah felt a chill run through her. She gripped her phone tightly until William ended the call.So Keith already knew she had cheated on him. He had even met Cory and visited the house she shared with him. No wonder Keith had been acting strangely lately. He used to be so clingy with her. No wonder he had stopped texting her. But if Keith had already found out, why didn't he confront her about it?Five years ago, he had caused a huge scene when he discov

Third-Person POVThe next morning, the first thing Hannah did was check her phone. To her surprise, Keith still hadn't replied. While Hannah was lost in thought, Cory suddenly spoke up. "Honey, do you remember the guy I accidentally hit back then?"It was pouring the other day, and no one accepted our ride request. Funny enough, he was the one who ended up taking our ride request."Hannah hummed in response, still distracted. She vaguely remembered the man in the raincoat outside her door when she got home that day. The hood of his raincoat hid his face. Since she hadn't paid much attention to him, she didn't get a good look at him. But now that she thought about it, that guy seemed strangely familiar. "See? I found his Instagram on his phone when I took him to the hospital and sent him a follow request."He even liked the post I made yesterday. I was thinking about apologizing to him in person. After all, I was the one who caused the accident. I still haven't even asked him

Third-Person POVAs soon as Cory told Hannah that something had happened to Joel, she immediately rushed over. It wasn't until she got home that she found out that Joel had simply bumped his head, and the child was still throwing a tantrum. It had happened more than once before, but Hannah never seemed to mind. If anything, she seemed to enjoy it.But this time, for some reason, she felt a little annoyed. "If our son bumps his head, can't you just comfort him? He's your son too, you know. He's not just mine. I already told you earlier. I have to go see—"Cory cut her off unhappily. "That guy's just an outsider. Why do you care about him so much? I already ignored the fact that you're still in touch with your boyfriend. What more do you want from me?"Hannah was a little frustrated, and her tone turned slightly sharp. "At the end of the day, we kept our marriage a secret from him. You don't know how guilty I feel about this."Cory didn't seem to think much of it. "So what? We've a

Keith's POVFrom the day I was hospitalized, Hannah never contacted me again. But through Cory's profile, I still knew where she had been and what she had been doing. It wasn't until a week later that she finally returned. That was also the same day I was discharged from the hospital. The moment she came home, she explained, "I've been so busy with work this whole week, so I didn't really have the time to talk to you. But things will be easier over the next few days. Then, I can be with you every day." Hannah smiled and gave the bag in her hand a little shake. "I bought some fresh ingredients on my way home. I put aside some money from my paycheck for them. You're the one who's had to take on the most between the two of us."Hannah rambled on, but I simply looked at her in silence. She didn't have any work that week in the first place. It was only because of the rear-end collision that she spent a week with Cory and Joel in Lamix."Keith, what happened to your hand?"It wa
