River POV;Alexander puts me down and turns around hot on his heels to the door of the basement that leads inside the house. When I am certain he has climbed all the stairs and I hear the door shut closed, I look around me and find myself alone in the basement. I also remember that I never heard the side door leading to the garden gets locked. Finally, this was my chance to run away. I had no intentions of remaining in this dungeon nor at this house with crazy people who talked about werewolves and other bullshit. I could tell people were running upstairs in distress and heavy movements could be heard through the walls. Then the sound of men arguing loudly came to me through the walls, but I couldn't understand what they were talking about. Also, I didn't care to listen. For all I care they can kill each other, it really won’t bother me. All I want is to get out of here and get my freedom back. Carefully and slowly, I approached the side door walking through the dark tight tunnel.
Alexander POV;Raphael and some of his vampires walked through the driveway surrounded by my men. Raphael and his vamps were our allies. They may have acted like friends sometimes, but I see them only as allies. He was an ancient vampire, at least five hundred years old. Vampires were immortal. Their power increases the older they get. They became faster and stronger with age, but their bloodlust increased as well. They were banned to walk the earth under the sunlight unless they had sunlight items such as necklaces or rings made by witches to protect them from sunlight. The reason for their curse was feeding on human blood. Raphael made a deal with my great-grandfather to be his ally in exchange for a piece of the country. The deal was made to prevent a potential war between our kinds. Raphael's vampires controlled the western area, making up approximately ten percent of our land. By controlling this land, he also controls our western borders. We live in symbiosis, but vampires and
Alexander POV;”River is missing, search everywhere," I mind-link all the guards and the servants at the house and outside. "Robert, we have to find her before Raphael tracks down her blood!” I told Robert while walking to the side door. His scent was leading me there. She must have used this door. My suspension was confirmed when I saw her tracks in the snow. It was freezing cold even for a werewolf. Great, if Raphael doesn't kill her, the cold definitely will. "There is no way she can survive in this cold for long," I told Robert while both of us followed her tracks to the tree line just behind the house where her tracks died out because of snow. Her scent was strong though meaning she was here just now. Robert and I took off following her scent. Both shifting mid-run. Her scent leading us to a small residential area. It was still strong meaning she either was just here or was stressed, probably running and sweating. And I think it's the latter. Damn, the girl is fast. How she made
River POV;Just minutes before midnight, I awoke to complete darkness but the shining digits and hands of the wall clock. My head was foggy, but I recognized the bed, the smell, and the warmth of the room. I was back in my cell-of-bedroom. Back as a prisoner. Throughout my life, I had never felt so helpless and lonely.I remember when my mother died, I felt that my world would end but the thought of not giving up honoring my mother kept me going. The feeling I felt being back in this bed against my will was nothing like that. Though, it was much uglier. I felt like I just let myself down, failed to protect myself, failed to honor my mother, and live the life she wanted for me. For the first time, I felt regret. Regret not listening to my sister, she really wanted to keep me safe and protected but I never wanted safe. Safe was boring. I had to be adventurous and stuck my nose in every adrenaline-kicking experience. I regret helping Antonio because if I didn’t, I would be safe with my
River POV;By the morning, I felt much worse. Fever was a fact now. I took a cold bath to try to bring my fever down, but it didn't help much. Laying still was going to get me even sicker, so I changed and headed for the door planning on going outside this suffocating room. I was surprised the door to my room was not locked. Stepping out of the room, I was greeted by Antonio. He was standing by the door, probably guarding me. "Good morning River," he politely said with a nod. "Good morning, how is your wound?" I answered fighting the soreness of my throat. "Fine, thanks to you," Antonio said while showing me his head. I noticed his head was healing at a human speed which was odd considering he was a werewolf like Robert and the others but I only saw Robert healing fast so I asked "why aren't you healing as fast as Robert?". He looked hesitant about answering my question when suddenly Alex's voice came through the corridor where we were standing. "You can answer her Antonio don't
Alexander POV;"You may go on a tour if you want," I told River when I noticed her scanning the castle from upside as we walked down to the house. "But take Tino with you," I added."Who is Tino?" she asked. "Antonio, it's his nickname," I explained, and she nodded. He offered to be her personal guard, not because she needed a guard or anything but because we wanted to keep an eye on her. "No I don't want to," she replied in an unconvincing tone. "you said something about evidence yesterday. I am still waiting," River impatiently said while walking through the front door. I felt Robert's presence by the sound waves and was still worried about her seeing him. "If you change your mind on the tour, call my name, I will hear you wherever you are in the house. Looks like you are on your own for a while, I will go check the evidence you asked for,""No Alex, not a chance. You are not locking me down in this room again. You take me with you or else..." "Chill with the threats, baby girl A
Alexander POV;Once inside, Amanda who was sitting waiting on a chair hopped at me and hugged me tightly. "Alex, I have missed you," Amanda said while hugging me.I wrapped my arms around her. "I missed you more my dearest M,” I said inhaling Amanda’s scent. "You look skinny, skinnier than the last time we met, are you fine?" I asked Amanda. "We can catch up later but now aren’t you going to introduce me to the beautiful girl?" Amanda asked glancing at River. "River, meet Amanda, my witch friend. And Amanda, this River, my mate," I introduced them to each other. Amanda gasped and jumped on River hugging her. "Oh finally, I thought this idiot would never find a mate, he was already a failure," Amanda said giggling. River frowned. She had no clue witches were real and probably needed time to digest this. But she had her head wrapped around the werewolves and vamps no,w so she will survive the witches part too I suppose."Wait a minute, I don’t feel a strong magic from her as from wer
River POV;Alexander was right. I did feel what I saw was the truth. An answer I had been waiting for but definitely not what I wished for. When Amanda started her spell, I felt like I was pulled away from reality into some kind of loop, couldn't find a way in or out, and life spun around me. Yet I felt safe somehow, it was like going to sleep after a rough day, the feeling of losing control into comfort. Suddenly, I was thrown to a foreign place, snow covering everywhere, yet I felt warm. The sky above me cracked open and blood flooded the whole place coloring the snow to red, yet blood didn't touch me. I looked above me to see an old man who I mysteriously knew was my father. The blood flooding where I was standing was coming from his hands. I tried to call him out, but he didn't respond. I begged him to stop, the feeling of discomfort increasing inside of me. I cried and sobbed begging him to stop, said ‘dad, please stop’ but he didn't hear me. The blood flooding everywhere next
