Chapter 2-The Plot thickens

-Two weeks later-

Lynne was doing her morning prayers with the other sisters as they finished, a certain girl entered the church and Lynne already knew who she was and what she came for.

     "Good morning sister."

The girl greeted and smiled while Lynne doubled take on what midnight was wearing rather than her usual black attire and trench coat, she was wearing a simple dress that stops below her knees and a black leather jacket while headphones lay on her neck. Her attire was almost normal but rather than heels she wore sneakers and

Lynne rolled her eyes at that detail.

"Good morning to you to my dear." Lynne greeted back

"How can I help you today?"

This is actually their code word for 'what have you found out?' to avoid any suspicion in public

"I came to confess my sins." Midnight replied which means

'I have something important to tell you.'

quickly Lynne grabbed her arm and lead her to an empty confession booth

       "What have you found out?"

"They're planning on killing you tonight."

"But why tonight, they could have done it in the last couple of days?" Lynne asked it took them a week later than anticipated

"Because my deadline in killing you is now overdue and I'll be executed after you tonight." Midnight announced bluntly like she was already ready for it to happen

Lynne's lips made a thin line at the act

"and you aren't afraid?" confused by the girl's reaction

"not really we all got to die right?" Midnight shrugged.

"Wait, cross that, of course, I'm terrified, I don't want to die yet that's why I'm telling you all this to help me in my predicament." she looks at Lynne straight in the eyes, the fire was not going to be put out just yet.

"Sorry to get your hopes up kid but I can't help you."

     "But why not?"

She was begging at this point for a light in this dark hole, she succumbs herself into. In this world being hunted by the police is one thing but by a whole organization, it was hard. Especially for a kid who had a lot of enemies in the criminal underworld, she calculated every possible outcome but each one lead to her dismays. Her blood will be spilled no matter what.

"I'm going against a whole organization just to save a little girl, dude I don't play hero." Lynne justified then added "If I were you, you should probably start packing so that you can still leave this town. Alive that is."

"So that's it huh, I should have never trusted you."

Midnight eyes darken at the statement, what little hope she had left just burned out.

"oh don't be cliche, you knew this was going to happen eventually but you were dumb enough to get your hopes up, wake up kid this isn't a fairy tale. heroes don't exist, this is the real world and sometimes ... people die ." the explanation made Midnight snort in disbelief, hands both clenched at her sides.

Her body quivered in anger

"I should have killed you when I had the chance, it was a mistake and because of that it cost me my own life, I hope you're happy," Midnight added with a snicker

"Oh wait you probably are, you already killed a lot of people in your career so one measly life wouldn't hurt right?"

"Don't be so smug about yourself you can't even kill a person, I bet you wouldn't even kill if it's a cat or something because you're too coward to do it." Lynne snapped a tone higher than it should be "and you don't know anything about my life, you're just a kid who thought the criminal underworld was a nice place to play around but you know what I think it's karma biting you back."

When Lynne finished her rant Midnight huffed and stomped her foot

     "I hope you die tonight."

She stormed out of the room and Lynne just stood there certain with her choice.

___________________________________________________________________

The night came slowly for Lynne and the fight she had with Midnight was still fresh on her mind but she brushed it to the side because there was a more important matter at hand. Why would she care about the brat, she was doomed anyway that doesn't change the fact for Lynne to pity her. She was at her range again to let off steam and ease her nerves, as Lynne fired another knife to its target, a small rustle from the bush made her stop midway, she eyed the bush wearily. she hesitantly raised another knife then flung it to the bush, a shriek, and a loud thumb could be heard probably the dead body hitting the ground.

"I know you guys are there it would probably be better if you all came out, it's rude to spy on people,"

Lynne announced positioning her knives as four more thugs came out of their hiding spots. Two came out behind the shed to her right, one came out behind the trees and lastly one came out behind her in the bushes. She smirked as they all pulled out their guns and pointed them at her.

"Ok boys ill give you guys a choice, we can do this the easy way or the hard way." She said but the thugs didn't waver as they continued to point their guns at her.

"well, then the way it is." She said as she throws her knife at the hitman behind her while the other ones started firing and she quickly hid behind a tree, gunshots could be heard everywhere as they stop, smoke covered the whole area and Lynne took it to her advantage.

She stabbed the thug that crept up behind her, blood gush out of the stab wound in his torso while she grabbed his gun and shot him in the heart. When she was sure that he was dead, she ran back to the field using the tree as camouflage and shooting two more thugs in the process

'4 down 1 more to go' she thought

She was about to make a turn but was suddenly tackled to the ground. Her back made contact with the hard ground and she winced in pain as her attacker grab her arm with the gun pinning it to her side while she kept thrashing on his hold because of that with the hit man's other hand he punches her in the face making the world spin around her and her vision became blurry while she was trying to recover the hitman grab her gun and throw it a few meters from them and he pulled another gun from his holster and aimed it at Lynne's forehead

"it would be better for the both of us if you don't scream." The thug commented but it was a Little blurry on Lynne's side for she was still recovering from the ringing in her ears and with no choice, she closed her eyes waiting for the impact but it didn't come, when she opened her eyes she saw Midnight standing above her. the thug lay at her side, his gun in Midnight's hand.

"did you kill him?" Lynne asked,

she was confused for no gunshot echoed through the air

"No, I didn't, I just pinch his neck where the vein to the brain is, He's paralyzed for few minutes." Midnight replied shrugging her shoulders while Lynne stood up slowly still dizzy from the recent events.

"if you're here to save me just to rub it on my face, don't you dare I'll kill you." Lynne growled, "If you're waiting for an apology, you won't get one." Lynne finished, Midnight rolled her eyes

"I'm not here for any of those things." Midnight admitted as she crouched down on the thug's body and began searching his pockets

"what are you doing?" Lynne asked

"None of your business." Midnight snapped as she pulled out a black leather wallet

"Are you really that poor to come back just for your wallet." Lynne chuckled

"I'm not concerned about the money." Midnight said opening the wallet, when she found what she was looking for she let out a sigh of relief, tucking it inside her pocket for safekeeping.

"How did it get to him in the first place?" a little bit curious at the ordeal

"When I was about to leave town a lot of gang members ambushed me but I managed to survive." Midnight explained recalling what happened earlier "and in the middle of the fight my wallet accidentally fell from my pocket and somehow this idiot got a hold of it while he flees so I followed him back and now I'm here." finishing the story with a huff

"Wait a minute, so you're telling me you killed a lot of gang members in just one night!?!" disbelief was ever-present on Lynnes tone

"What?! No, I don't kill people. I just kinda broke some of their bones and made them bleed internally."

Lynne notice the dried blood on the bottom of the kids' trench coat and hands, Lynne wouldn't say it out loud but she was impressed.

She was about to ask another question but stopped when she heard her phone ring, turning her back towards Midnight. Throughout the call Midnight only got bits of it

"Are you sure?" "if that's what you want." and lastly "understood." The phone call ended and Lynne turned to Midnight

"she wants to talk to you," Lynne stated and Midnight look at her in confusion

"Who!?" she asks

Lynne sighed "the 3rd Mafia God."
