The wounds on my back knit slowly, but the ache lingers with every step. Each movement pulls at the half-healed skin, a raw reminder of yesterday. I keep my shoulders straight despite it. Pain is nothing compared to the danger clawing under my skin: my wolf. She stirs more often now, restless, pulling at the bars I've built to keep her hidden.

I'm heading to the Alpha's war room. I wonder what new game Caden wants to play now. What was he thinking when he sent a guard so early in the morning to lead me to his war room?

Two guards flank the tall black door. Their eyes rake over me in disbelief, as if I'm an alien that has invaded their world. I might as well have been. Snapping out of it, one raps once against the door and pushes it open. A curt jerk of his chin tells me to step through.

The room is colder than the hall, carved from stone so black, it seems to drink the light. Banners of blood and silver hung from the walls. A long table dominates the middle of the room, draped with ma

I shrug. “I don’t plan on leaving the Alpha wing today.”Lyra gives a thumbs-up. “Then it’s perfect.”The girls head back to their shared room in the packhouse, and I make a mental note to check it out later.I run my hands through my hair. They wanted to curl it, but I chose to leave it combed and down. I sit on my bed, lean against the headboard, and twirl a strand of hair nervously.Caden should be here by now to walk me to breakfast. Time passes, but he still doesn’t come.Am I supposed to go down without him?Has he gotten tired of walking me to the dining hall?I lie down, deciding to wait just a bit longer… and that’s how I fall asleep. When I wake, the shadows in my room tell me it’s nearly lunchtime. I began to feel annoyed. I sit up and button my shirt properly. He didn’t come for me.My stomach growls as I march to the door. I yank it open, only to stumble back when I find Caden standing right there, hand raised to knock. Was I so lost in my hurt that I didn’t hear him appr

Just as he’s about to deepen the kiss, I release his hair from my fingers and push myself out of his arms. He lets me go.I sit back, using my long black hair to cover my breasts. We keep our eyes locked on each other’s faces. His lips twitch, then stretch into a wide smile then a full-blown laugh bursts out of him.I’m startled at the sound, at how beautiful it is. I never thought he was capable of laughing like that. His laugh is infectious, and mine spills out to join it. We keep laughing and laughing. Why? I have no idea.“Our wolves are crazy,” he says, his laughter fading into soft chuckles.I smile as I get up. “Trust me. Ajax is nowhere near as crazy as Nyra.”He rises too, and we fall back into staring at each other.“Race you back to the packhouse?” I say, not waiting for an answer. I take off, and he follows right behind me.We run in human form this time, and I win.By the time we reach the packhouse, it’s already dinner. Caden prepares food for me again. I watch his back

“Yeah… remember that day I came out of the forest covered in blood? When you meet me at the treeline.”Caden nods.I clasp my hands together so tightly my knuckles turn white. “That was his blood. My brother finds out I'm alive after so many years, and we fight.”“I don’t understand,” Caden says. “He isn’t happy to see you alive after so long?”I let out a harsh laugh. “Hardly. Considering he’s part of the reason I’m on the run. He wants me dead.”A growl tears from Caden’s chest. “I won’t let him touch you.”“I’ve been protecting myself all these years,” I say, though a considerable part of me is grateful that I'm not alone anymore.“Yes,” he says softly, “I have no doubt you’re capable of protecting yourself.” There’s a hint of pride in his voice. “But if he or anyone elsecomes for you, I’ll stand by you. The pack will too…”Will they? I think.Caden’s voice enters my mind, smooth as a whisper. Yes, they will. By choice, I’m sure. You became one of us the moment you became my mate.

He has dark eyebags, like he didn’t sleep. His hair is disheveled, his clothes rumpled, and his shirt buttoned wrong. “I’m hungry,” I say before he can talk. A bit of light returns to his tired eyes. “I came to call you for breakfast. If you follow me to the dining—” “Will Dorian be there?” He hesitates. “No, just us. I thought you’d be more comfortable without him.” “Yes. I like it that way.” Hearing myself, I quickly correct, “Not that I have a problem with him. I just need space right now.” “Of course. We understand.” As we walk toward the Alpha dining room, Caden keeps stealing glances at me. “You have something to say?” My voice comes out harsher than I mean. He rubs his neck. “Selene, I know you’re angry with me, and you have every right. But that day on the field…” I stiffen. He notices and stops. “I’m sorry.” The sincerity in his voice still stings. Why is he mentioning it again? I sigh, forcing myself to relax. “Let’s just forget it. I forgive you.” He looks at m

Alpha Luca of the Red River Pack, a young alpha who takes over after his father’s demise, lies between two she-wolves on his bed. One running her hands over his chest and kissing him, the other sucking him off, when the door suddenly flies open. He sighs in exasperation. “What is it now?” “Sorry to interrupt, Alpha.” His beta stands by the door, refusing to look at the naked she-wolves. “You were blocking me through the mind link…” Alpha Luca gestures lazily at the women. “For a good reason, as you can see…” “Yes, but something urgent comes up at the border. Alpha Silas is here, requesting to have a word with you.” Alpha Luca sits up immediately, pushing the she-wolves away. They roll to the other side of the bed and begin fondling themselves. A low growl rumbles in his chest. “What does that bastard want now?” “I don’t know, Alpha, but the wolves with him… something is off about them.” His beta hesitates before adding, “I think you should see what he wants.” Luca looks at the

The same blond hair, the same bright blue eyes. The resemblance hits me like a slap. “You’re siblings,” I blurt. Lira turns to me and smiles shyly. “Yeah—” her gaze flicks to Caden, “—yes, Luna, I mean.” “Twins, to be precise,” Dorian adds. I stare openly. Aside from appearance, their similarities end there. Lira is small, sweet, and timid. Dorian is stoic, cold, unreadable, and much bigger. “And you live separately,” I say. Dorian sits down and pulls Lira gently into the seat beside him. “The Omegas have always had their quarters. When Lira came of age, she was moved there. Away from us,” he explains. Us probably means him and his parents. Parents I haven’t seen since I arrived. I decide not to poke at that wound. Lira carefully slides a plate of mashed potatoes and gravy toward me, then does the same for Caden. My brows knit. They all begin eating, but I don’t touch my food. “But she’s your sister. She should stay here with you. She isn’t exactly getting the best
