Chapter 4

The next day, the sun was still rising when I reached the pack house, it casted a golden glow over the beautiful stone structure. With a sigh of longing I made my way to the field behind the building where the interview was to be held. If I passed this, a room here in the pack house would be given to me and that was the best way to stay close to Kaiden. All I needed to do way focus and ace this.

I counted four other individuals in the seats, probably also here for the interview. Three were huge male werewolves while the last was a female werewolf who sat with so much elegance. Void of emotions and utterly beautiful, I immediately knew Ice Queen over here was my main competition.

Without a word, I took the last sit. To allow no mistakes today, I had wrapped my newly black waist length hair into a bun, a choice I now regretted. If I hadn’t, I would at least have something to fiddle with.

A couple of minutes passed by when we were finally approached by a lanky boy with unruly hair.

His uninterested gaze roam over each of us first.

“Follow me.” He said finally and with those two words, he turned and strode off.

Not once did he turn to check if he was indeed being followed, he didn’t have to, we all followed and tried our best to keep up with his pace.

Shortly, we arrived at a wide garden and the boy left us there. Instead of flowers, the expanse was filled with different obstacles, rows of weapons hung on one wall, and strategically placed targets.

“Well shit. Its like a tournament or something.” I said beneath my breath but four set of eyes turn in my direction.

Wolf super hearing, of course. I needed to always remember that I was no longer in the human world.

“Welcome!” An elderly werewolf greeted in a booming voice as he made his way towards us. Following closely behind him were two other people, a male and a female werewolf.

They entered from a gate I hadn’t noticed earlier but coming from behind it was laughter and squeals of joy. I assumed that was where the children played. For some reason, the sound of happiness coming from the younger ones soothed my nerves and I was glad for that.

“I welcome you all to Greymoon pack. And to our very own, we greet you.” The elder offered the other female competitor a warm smile, to which she responded with a stoic nod.

The woman behind stepped up. “We believe you all are already familiar with what today is for but while we wait for the Alpha to join us, we shall brief you once again.”

“The purpose of today is to select and hire a capable trainer to teach and guide our children who are the future of our pack.” The last man stepped up and like that they continued, each taking turns to talk.

“Contesting for the position are: Drea Haldane, John Kim, Ted Ross, Ceph Timothy and Aliya Manor.”

Each of us nodded when our name was called. Aliya Manor, my new name was going to take some getting used to.

“We hope you all aware of what it means to be a teacher. For you will be tested in both wits and strength.

“Remember always that with great power comes great responsibility. You might find these words to be helpful.”

“Now here comes Alpha Kaiden. We wish you all good luck today, and as always, success shall find the best.” The elder finished up the brief.

Turn by turn, like a well oiled machine, they moved to face the gate they had all entered from. A shadow appeared first and my stomach turned in apprehension.

After all these years, I would finally see him.

“Welcome.” The low greeting sounded almost like a growl and my heart leapt. His imposing figure stepped into view offering me a good look of Kaiden and I froze in my spot.

Chilling blue eyes scanned the faces of all the competitors, finally landing on mine. Time slowed and an awful sense of deja vu hit me as his eyes lit up.

“You.”
