Sam was stunned by Charles’ remarks and was not able to respond. She could feel the heat rising to her face. She immediately avoided his gaze while Charles turned his attention back to the road. She took her phone from her bag to make herself busy. She browsed again the online shopping app she was checking earlier. However, her mind was not on her phone but was filled by Charles and his earlier statement.
After a moment, they arrived at the nearest mall to the university. Sam felt uncomfortable the whole journey, so she was able to feel easy the time they entered the mall.

“Wait,” Sam said as she tugged at his sleeve. Obviously, she was reluctant to enter the place. From its look, she knows that she could not afford to pay even a single order of meal in this kind of restaurant.
