Chapter 1

Author: Shirley
I'm the Luna of the Blood Moon Pack. Yet, I have to get approval from my mate's secretary for every single expense.

All because he thought my low-ranking bloodline meant I'd waste pack money.

Three days ago, my foster mother was in critical condition. His secretary, Serena, purposely held back the two hundred thousand dollars. She delayed the payment until my foster mother died in that hospital bed.

Killian would never understand. I only endured this toxic mate bond for the doctors and money he controlled.

Now that my foster mother was gone, I had no reason to stay.

I pushed the Rejection papers in front of Killian. He didn't even glance at them.

He just sighed. "Be a good girl. Stop throwing a tantrum."

His eyes never left his laptop screen while he spoke to me.

Those boring business files seemed far more important than his own mate.

I kept my eyes down. My voice was steady. "I'm serious. I want a Rejection."

Killian took a deep breath and finally looked up. He treated me like a stubborn child.

"I was the one who froze the funds for your foster mother. It's got nothing to do with Serena. She was just following my orders."

"You caused a scene in front of the Elders. I had to teach you a lesson."

"I had them restore the money yesterday. Hazel, I deal with endless pack emergencies every day. I don't have time for your drama."

He didn't give me a chance to speak. He grabbed his coat and walked out of the room.

He fully believed I'd take those papers back in a few hours. He was certain I'd soften up, cling to him, and try to please him like always.

Even when he'd grab my chin in bed and mock me. He'd say, "You look so desperate to please me. You have no dignity at all."

I'd just smile and stay silent. I played the part of his perfect pet.

But now, the money was completely meaningless.

If he'd just listened to my phone call three days ago, maybe I'd still be here today.

But he never had the patience to listen to me.

I begged him that day. I told him not to hang up. I said, Killian, just let me finish. Just give me thirty seconds.

But thirty seconds couldn't beat a sweet whisper from Serena. "Is the Luna mad at me because I reminded her of the rules last week?"

Her voice was soft and full of fake innocence. "I really meant well. The Luna grew up in a poor pack. I just didn't want her bringing bad habits into our territory."

"That's why I strictly followed the rules. I just wanted to help set boundaries for her. It's for her own good."

Hearing that, Killian completely lost his patience with me.

Through the phone, I could hear him comforting her.

Then he said to me, "Serena's trying to help. Be a good girl. Follow the rules. It's for your own good."

Honestly, I should've been used to it by now.

He always gave me the exact same answers.

"I'm in a pack meeting. Go find Serena for small things."

"Listen to Serena."

"Just fill out the forms exactly how Serena tells you to."

I was his marked mate and the Luna of the pack. Yet, I lived worse than an Omega maid.

I couldn't even leave the house freely.

I had to attend pack banquets and Full Moon ceremonies. But I had to submit a request to Serena just to wear my own dresses and jewelry.

Serena loved to wear that sweet, harmless smile. She loved rejecting my requests over and over again.

"Luna, your reason for requesting this gown isn't good enough. Please rewrite it."

"The Alpha's gathering ends at ten tonight. Why did you ask to stay out until midnight?"

"Luna, how can you fail at a simple form? I told you it'll only be approved if it's filled out right."

She always approved my forms exactly one minute before the banquet started. Then she'd stand at the door and smile brightly. She loved watching me sprint to the dressing room and rush down the stairs while putting on my earrings.

Because of this, I was often late.

Whenever that happened, Killian would glare at me across the crowded hall. "Hazel, do you have no sense of time?"

"You can never get ready on time. Why can't you be more like Serena?"

Yes, I truly couldn't do anything right.

I was always out of breath. I was always struggling to keep up with his pace.

And it was all thanks to his perfect, thoughtful secretary.

But he couldn't see her petty games. Or rather, he just didn't care.

Spring came early this year. The ocean breeze was warm and carried the smell of salt. I stood barefoot in the soft, white sand. I held a small camera in my hands. I pointed it at the crashing blue waves and took a picture. The shutter clicked loudly."I made it, Mom," I whispered to the wind. "We finally made it to the ocean."I didn't bring her ashes. I scattered them in a beautiful mountain forest years ago. But I brought her memory. I kept the promise I made to her in that cold hospital room. My life was beautiful now. My clinic had grown from a small lab into the largest independent medical center in the region. We didn't just treat werewolf diseases. We became a safe haven. Just last Tuesday, my past came full circle. A young she-wolf named Lily stood crying at my clinic's front desk. She was an Omega. Her younger brother was sick with a high fever, but she couldn't pay for the medicine. "Please," Lily begged my nurse. "My mate is the Beta of our pack. He has the money. But

The luxury goods and the pack house sold shockingly fast on the auction block. The secret buyers placed massive bids. They paid millions over the asking prices without a second thought. And weirdly, no one ever messaged me to ask for authenticity papers.Even the pack house deed was transferred to a shell company within three days.I didn't bother tracking down the IP addresses of the buyers.I knew exactly who was buying my old life. And I simply didn't care.In the months that followed, I poured all my energy into werewolf disease research. Before long, I earned my Master Healer rank. I started running my own clinic lab with a team of brilliant students.Doctor Evans leaned against the lab counter with her coffee. She jokingly warned me. "You better run strict background checks on these new medical students.""I'm way too old to be cleaning up the toxic mate drama of your students."We both burst out laughing. The bright sound echoed off the white tiles of the lab.Later that exact s

I opened the door. Killian's Beta was standing in the hallway. He looked incredibly nervous and shifted his weight awkwardly."Miss Hazel. The Alpha felt the settlement in the Rejection papers was completely unfair to you. He ordered me to hand-deliver this blank check."I looked past his shoulder and stared down at the street. A familiar black SUV was parked on the curb with its tinted windows rolled up tight. I calmly took the check, walked downstairs, and approached the car."Killian, I suppose I should thank you," I said directly to the dark glass. "You didn't follow through on your threats. You didn't actually leave me on the streets."If he'd used pack laws to freeze my money, no one in the werewolf courts would've blamed him.But I needed to finish this once and for all. "The settlement money is enough to last me three lifetimes.""But I'm still going to auction off every single thing in that house.""Because when I burn a bridge, I burn it to the ground."Hearing this, the tint

On our final day at the camp, Killian walked over holding a beautifully wrapped velvet box.The silk ribbon was tied by hand. He wore a look of confident victory."I swear to you this time, baby, you're going to love this."I didn't even let him pull the ribbon. I stared dead into his eyes. "It's that limited edition designer bag, isn't it?"His eyes lit up like a praised pup. "How did you know?""Because I saw it plastered all over Serena's social media," I said flatly. "You probably ordered your Beta to buy everything on the pack's Luna wishlist. Too bad Serena was the one managing that list. It's just a catalog of her personal fantasies. She loves flashy, useless garbage.""Like that ugly ring covered in a halo of diamonds.""Like those ridiculously expensive gold-plated stethoscopes.""And especially those rare, asthma-inducing flowers."With every item I listed, the arrogant color drained from Killian's face. He turned pale.He probably never realized the truth. Every single 'roma

Over a dozen matte-black SUVs parked at the bottom of the muddy slope.I stepped out of my tent. Killian didn't look like a rejected, broken mate. Instead, he put on a charming smile."My pack happens to be building a resort nearby. I know you field medics always need money.""So I had my team wire a massive donation to your head doctor's account last night."He eagerly pulled a fancy takeout box from the nearest car."This is from that fancy bakery you love downtown. I had my pilot fly the chef and the ingredients out here overnight. It's fresh."I simply crossed my arms. I made absolutely no move to take it. Killian's confident smile faded, and his tone took on a pleading edge."Baby, I know I took you for granted. I was a blind fool. I swear on my wolf I'll change.""Let's rebuild our mate bond from scratch, okay?""Every bit of love you were denied, I'll give back to you tenfold."I stared at that ridiculously expensive cup of coffee. A bitter wave of comedy washed over me.I truly

"Killian, do you really think we're here tonight just because of Serena?"He stared at me with empty eyes.He truly didn't understand. He was desperate to explain himself."Baby, I know I ignored your feelings. I shouldn't have let an employee disrespect you.""But I saw other Alphas managing their money like that. I thought I was teaching you responsibility. I never meant to hurt you. I never meant to let your mother die.""Just come back to the pack house with me. I'll donate massive medical supplies to your team. I'll buy you that sports car, the diamonds, anything you want."I looked at him desperately offering me bribes. I knew he still didn't understand."Stop talking, Killian.""Our bond is completely dead. I only want your signature on those Rejection papers. I want absolutely nothing else from you."The confusion on his face deepened. He couldn't understand why his Alpha groveling wasn't working.A flash of betrayed anger surfaced in his eyes.Killian stepped closer.
