Chapter 57
Zoey POV
My tears soon flowed like a waterfall and Samuel turned towards me fully and pulled me in a hug. The hug itself wasn’t comforting, it was cold with no warmth but the fact that I had someone to hold on to was enough to comfort me for the moment and soon my body shook due to my sobs.
I knew I was embarrassing myself by crying in public but at this moment nothing mattered to me more than finally letting out my feelings. I have been holding myself strong ever since I discovered he was married and I wanted to cry badly. Never in my life did I thought that I would be sobbing in the arms of a stranger and be relieved about it.
Being all alone in this world sucks, I was never fond of being alone to begin with but I wasn’t given an option. I leaned in Samuel’s arms and held him tightly while he sat in a stiff position. Once my tears subsided, I released his white button-up and sat straight and his arms fell back to his sides.
Chapter 58Alexander POVI left Sara and Lucas to bicker and formulate a plan while I headed to my room to take a shower. Once inside, I stood under the hot water, letting my muscles relax while my mind kept reminding me how I want nothing more than to leave this place and search for Zoey.As the hot water cascaded my back, I’m reminded of last night. My back has dried blood due to the long scratches Zoey gave me in our moments of passion. I can bet that she wasn’t even aware of her long nails digging in my back while she writhed in pleasure underneath me. A little smile made its way on my lips as I’m reminded of our shower sex. Even though she was highly intoxicated by alcohol, her body, soul, and heart acknowledged me as her mate.I remember I had taken her to the bathroom to clean her but we both ended up making love once again and then she fell asleep in my arms all wrapped in the fluffy white towel. I had expected her to be very sor
Chapter 59Zoey POVI sat beside Sam while trying to control my heartbeat. Even though I wasn’t attracted to him, there was just something about his presence that made my heart hammer against my rib cage. I took another deep breath to control my breathing and decided to ask him about what kind of help he meant.“What kind of help you meant when you said you can help me?” I asked.“Oh, since you don’t want to stay in this city as you said, I can help you relocate. I have a place in a small town which is at the border of the states.” He replied.“That’s nice of you but why would I want to move to a town with a stranger. I can always live on my own.” I spoke while feeling creeped out by his behavior.‘Well true that but I can definitely help you in a lot more ways. I can get you a job and a place to live at the lowest rent available.” He continued. His words didn&rsq
Chapter 60Alexander POVIt was around 9 o’clock when I woke up from my deep slumber and groaned. My wolf was exceptionally silent and I knew it wasn’t a good sign. I shook my head and got up from the bed and headed into the bathroom to freshen up.Once I was back into my hyperactive senses, I headed back into my room and mind-linked Lucas. ‘Lucas, you up?’I didn’t have to wait for long because he mind-linked me back seconds later. ‘Yea, I just woke up few minutes ago.’‘Okay, let’s have dinner then. After that, we can join Sara for the search.’ I suggested.Lucas hummed and I walked out of my room and made my way to the elevator. Lucas was waiting for me and was holding the elevator for me. I smiled a bit at the gesture and entered and we both rode to the ground floor in silence. Lillian greeted us with her famous motherly smile and asked us to have dinner to which we both n
Chapter 61Alexander POVMy heartbeat halted as my ears picked up the name while my breath got stuck in my throat. “Zoey Summers?” I said to confirm that my mind is not playing any tricks on me.“Yes, Officer. She just vacated her apartment today and had put it on sale.” He clarified while I stood there dumbstruck.I knew that she could be just another Zoey living in this city and not my mate but after searching countless apartments, it was the only hope I was clinging to. The man stared at me in confusion when I didn’t say anything and I cleared my throat to control my emotions. “Do you have a picture of Ms. Zoey Summers?” I asked while my heart hammered against my rib cage in anticipation.I have never felt this way before, not even close to it. “Yes sir, we have one but it’s not recent.” He answered and I nodded.“It’s ok, I would like to see,” I s
Chapter 62Zoey POVI was suddenly thrown in front and if not for the seat belt I would have hit my head to the windshield. All the sleep and tiredness left my body in an instant and shock took their place. I had no idea when I fell asleep but this wasn’t the way I wanted to be woken up.My heart pounded inside my chest as the adrenaline rushed into my veins. I would have screamed bloody murder if I wasn’t in so deep sleep that when I was thrown forward, I couldn’t comprehend what was happening till I saw a trailer in front of us.“who drives like that?” I shrieked when my breath returned to its normal pace.“The trailer driver,” Samuel replied nonchalantly.I shook my head, ready to give him a lecture about how it is the responsibility of every person driving to be on the lookout. I know sometimes it’s no one’s mistake but we should be careful if we can. “No, you need
Chapter 63Alexander POV(One Year Later)I stood in front of the glass wall in my office with my tie loosened around my neck and a glass of scotch in my hand. My eyes almost dropping due to the exhaustion while I deny the luxury of rest to my body. I was mindlessly looking over the city that is covered in yellow lights to illuminate the place.I heard the click of the door but didn’t bother to look back. “You need to come with me to the packhouse, it’s been two weeks since the last time you visited the packhouse. Pack members are growing worried about you.” I heard my Beta, Lucas, speak with frustration lacing his words.“You can tell them, I’m alright. I don’t think I have time to be there today.” I told him in an emotionless voice.“Uncle Zane is worried for you, Alex. You can’t just keep doing this to yourself.” He muttered in a soft voice which was very unlikely of him.
Chapter 64Zoey POVI hurried back to Sam’s place while the baby in my arms began crying. It was getting darker and I knew it’s not safe to be out at this hour with this three-month-old baby girl. The town is surrounded by woods and there are rumors that wolves reside there. Not a single person gets out of their house after nine in the evening to make sure they don’t become dinner of the wolves. None of the town residents have seen the wolves but have heard their howls. According to elders residing here for around twenty years, these wolves are feral with their blood-red eyes. The only person who has seen these wolves is Grandpa Steven. He is an eighty-year-old man living with his wife just beside Grillo’s. Their son died in an accident with his wife and unborn child. Ever since then, they shifted to this town and everyone calls him Grandpa.A smile forms on my lips as I remember the old man with the sweetest s
Chapter 65Alexander POVI sat in silence while I could feel Lucas hard stare at my side profile. I knew he was waiting for my answer but I had no idea how to answer his questions. “I asked you something, Alex,” Lucas said while turning his attention to the road.“I heard you the first time but I don’t think my answer would change anything. So, there is no need to answer your question.” I told him and took out my phone to tune him out.“That’s what you think but I beg to differ. It matters a lot, you and I both know, how much constant nightmares impact a person. If you are having nightmares, you can always tell me, Alex. I thought we were best friends, brothers and so much more. And you still don’t want to tell me? You should know, I won’t judge you.” Lucas muttered and I finally gazed at him.He was right, he is not only my Beta but also my brother and he won’t ever ju
