Freda's POV."Get me, Freda Anderson now," I heard the chief physician yell from his office. I was already at his office door and was about to knock. I knew I was in trouble due to the incident that happened earlier, so I had to bring myself to his office before he would tell Vivian to do so.A patient nearly lost her life due to a lack of the medication my team was supposed to administer to her.I had earlier smelled there would be a big problem because of it and as usual, I would be blamed. I'm always to be blamed whenever anything goes wrong with my team even though I'm not the head of my team, I was the least important person among them.I stretched forth my hand to knock on the door but on a second thought, I retreated my hand and took a deep breath.I knew he would yell and say hurtful things as usual and after that, I would cry in the restroom whenever he was done yelling at me.I knew that today won't be any different from other days but I still put up a smile, ready to face it as I had always done.I finally made up my mind to go right in to face him, I was already getting used to his behavior towards me, it wasn't a new thing. I stretched forth my hand at the count of six but before my hand could grasp the door handle, it opened.I looked up, my eyes met with that of Vivian Donaldson, she had a smile on her lips as usual, she was also on my team and had been a thorn in my flesh, whenever it got to her turn to attend to the patients assigned to us, she would always neglect her duties and have all the blames put on me.I couldn't blame her much, she was the Chief physician's Mistress and sweetheart. Every one of us knew about it."Oh wow! Guess who is here already. I think she knows that she had made her usual mistake again and surprisingly, this time, she didn't even wait for anyone to invite her over before she showed up," she said to me with a mocking smile.I was already boiling inside of me but I dare not show it if I don't want to worsen the situation."Hey Vivian, is Mr. Adams in?" I asked and pretended like I didn't hear what she had said."Of course, I was about to come to look for you but I think it's best as you show up yourself. You can come right in," she said and moved away from the door.I didn't say anything else and walked in, she closed the door and joined me. We silently started heading towards Adam's desk, it was at the end of his large office. I could hear her murmur offensive words but I acted like I wasn't hearing anything, I acted unperturbed and undisturbed.I acted like I wasn't scared nor bothered about what I was going to face but within me, I was already shivering and praying that someone would save me from going through another series of hurtful words which would leave me shattered and emotionally down again.I didn't want to break down at this period of my life.As we got closer to his desk, I saw him sitting down while flipping through some documents, scattered on his desk."Good day Mr. Adams," I said as we approached his desk. I bowed my head, avoiding his eyes."What is good about the day, you lousy doctor? Like I had always said, you ain't supposed to be in the medical field. The likes of you are supposed to live in the streets, running small kiosks or begging to feed, that's the kind of circumstances life is supposed to put you in," he said in his usual arrogant voice.I felt myself shaking that instant like I always do, I couldn't even put myself together to swallow what he had said. I thought I was strong enough to do so today but I was wrong, I still felt so hurt like I always do on other days."I'm sorry for what happened, I wasn't the one in charge of the patient who almost lost her life, " I remembered Mrs. Smith putting Vivian in charge of her. I had to go attend to other pati_""Shut up, you liar," he yelled and that instant, I heard Vivian smirk. I looked up at her and saw a victorious smile on her face. This made me remember the day, she promised to make my life hell here all because she did something wrong and I refused to take the blame. I bet she was already on it, fulfilling her promise."Why do you have to keep on lying and looking for excuses all the time, Freda?" Mr. Adams asked me."I'm not lying Sir, you can ask Mrs. Smith_""Keep quiet and never dare to interrupt me whenever I'm talking if you don't want to be kicked out of this hospital," he yelled with anger.I swallowed hard and looked away."Vivian was with me all through the day, she was helping me sort out way more important documents. How dare you drag her into this?" He thundered.I kept quiet, refusing to talk to say anything in defense. I knew he was lying but I couldn't do anything to defend myself, he was the boss and I'm just a mere employee."You have failed to do your duty today too. This is not the first time nor the second or the third. I have to punish you this time, so you don't joke with any patient assigned to you," he voiced out."But sir_" I tried to say when I couldn't hold anymore."Allow me to finish," he said and glared at me. I looked down and kept quiet."Half of your salary for this month will be deducted and for two weeks, you are restricted from working, you will not treat nor take care of any patient. All you will have to do is to clean and assist other doctors," he said and passed me a paper immediately. As I heard his words, I was shocked and perplexed. I looked up at him with shaky hands."He cannot derive me from what I love most. Treating and caring for my patients myself is my priority," I reminded myself and immediately went on my knees."Sir please, I cannot bear the punishment. You can have all my salary but don't restrict me from carrying out my duties," I said to him."No, my decision is final. I have already signed the document regarding your punishment as evidence," Mr. Adams said and continued flipping through the documents on his desk. There were already tears in my eyes, I tried to say something but nothing came out of my mouth. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and put myself together."But sir_" I tried to say when I found my word. He didn't let me finish before yelling at me to get out of his office."Right now, get out, you idiot," he repeated.I turned and didn't bother to say anything further, I couldn't also look at Vivian but her mocking laughter echoed in the office as I hurried out of Mr, Adams's office.I rushed into the restroom as usual to cry my eyes out."Can you stand?” Her father asked her while he held her left hand in his right hand. He could hear the slight grunt she made, watching as her face became squeezed in her struggle to get on her feet.“Yes, I can,” she replied immediately. She closed her eyes and heaved a heavy sigh before she made another attempt. Her next attempt was worse than her initial. Her heels were already swollen, though she never thought of having them closer to it. She pressed the already blistered heels to the ground, letting the hidden pain become even more conspicuous. She was on one foot, the left to be more precise, while the right foot was that which was swollen. She let out a loud grunt as soon as the spot on her hand touched the hard ground with much more force.“Ugh! Mila” he heaved a heavy sigh with his eyes closed, and his head lifted to the sky while he shook disappointingly at her confidence. ,Still, he never chose to let go of her hand. His right hand had a firm grip on her left hand just as
"Mila..." He groaned. She was more than being persuasive, reasoning, and being so inquisitive to the extent it somehow blocked her senses of reasoning. He tried explaining, but it seemed as though the young lady wouldn't take a negation for an answer. He heaved a heavy sigh before he continued, "Mila, you know you don't have the skills for that".Yet the more he tried explaining to the younger one, the more she countered with more questions and more of her facts. Her stubbornness began the moment she refused to hide from something as powerful as the phantom, especially for a person who knew what it entailed. He couldn't still place his hands on what had fueled the courage to face the beast alongside him. Her statement at that moment had shown she had considered family more than anything, yet she forgot she was meant to be thought of first by her parents rather than the other way around. "But you have those skills..." Mila intercepted. Her words interrupted his train of thought, and
She separated herself from her father, wiping off the remnant of the tears which still rolled down her eyes. She sniffled her nostrils as her eyes rattled through its sockets, searching for something which would be of comfort for a seat. The darkness had enveloped the landscape, leaving the full moon as the only point source of light and illumination. She searched around, with little traces of fear being depicted in her movement. She shivered at the rapid sound of dry leaves being moved on the ground. His heart rate increased speedily, accompanied by heavy breathing, huffing, and puffing as though she was engaged in something rigorous. The Phantom had left a footprint of fear within, coupled with the wild thoughts which filled her head. They came like little trances, like short clips of what had happened and how the phantom had growled loudly at her.The thoughts alone made an impact on how her physical body was positioned, causing her to trip to the ground and land her bottom on a h
There was an absolute silence, something deeper than what he had ever felt. Mark couldn't tell if it was just within him or if the environment had also adapted to the emptiness that he felt within. The movement of the winds had caused his ears to tingle, and the smooth feel of his skin had sent impulses down his body, causing the loneliness within him to increase. There and then he remembered her, the main essence of his existence. He remembered the moments when she would shiver and quiver at the sense of the cold winds. He remembered her smile anytime he would walk up to her and wrap his hands around her. He remembered the way he cuddled her like a stuffed toy and make her feel warm with an ordinary clothing material could never offer.“This is a lot better!” Her words echoed in his ears, and it seemed as though he had transitioned to the past, where he could watch the moment between them both.“You enjoy this?” He asked as he buried his face down her neck and kissed it playfully, ca
She watched as the phantom threw her mother's body on the ground, and there wasn't any response from the other as she fell to the ground and didn't move a muscle. The world ceased to exist in Mila's mind, and everywhere was void of sound and life. Her eyes never left her mother's body, which lay li
The werewolf came, its feet hitting the ground mercilessly as its hands joined in its movement. It broke out from the woods, tearing off the leaves of the trees with less effort, and growling at the sight of the man.“You can't take anyone from my family.!” Mark grinned as he shifted under the brig
Hey Mila..", a man tapped her by the side of her shoulders, dragging her towards him, holding her by her shoulders while she stared into his eyes."Father! What's happening?"She asked the man who stood before her, his eyes being Satin gray. She had sweat drops beaded on her face, panting for breat
