Ashley could immediately grasp the meaning of Josh's words just now.

"Why are you saying that? As if you care about my status? Even if I end up becoming a widow, that's my problem, not yours."

Although Ashley knew all of Josh's long words were not completely wrong, she felt that she couldn't admit it too quickly. Her ego was currently provoked too much to be assuaged in the blink of an eye.

It was true that when the idea of divorce came into her head, she was completely blinded by the anger and disappointment that attacked her in one day. It seemed natural that she would lose her mind at that time. Then when her mouth proposed an agreement, it was solely because her pride was being trampled on by Josh and his uncivilized girlfriend. So she instinctively searched for a solution to regain her strength and a way to keep her from getting even worse—and to benefit herself.

And somehow divorce was the only thing that came to mind.

But this proved that Josh's words were not wrong. Ashley didn't think about it carefully. She didn't even have any consideration about the good, the bad, and what benefits she could get other than being free from this marriage.

Now, after Josh's revelation, Ashley came to a bit of a realization.

"If you become a widow, I will also become a widower. Our problems are the same. But maybe the burden will be different. You don't have to care first to have that logic. My older brother became a widower because his wife died. I can see the hardship he's been through."

Josh actually wanted to reveal how Jason failed to become a candidate to be matched with Ashley because his parents didn't want their family to be looked down upon by the Song family. But he swallowed back his words because he didn't want what his parents feared to happen. After all, there was no point in mentioning something that had little to do with the problems the two of them were currently facing.

"I don't even want to imagine that happening to myself. So please, try to think again calmly, with a cooler head, and really carefully. The divorce you want won't keep you out of trouble. On the contrary, it will get you into a lot of trouble."

Ashley's forehead wrinkled. She digested hard all of Josh's words which undeniably made sense.

If she managed to escape from this marriage, what would she get?

Freedom? Happiness? A sense of relief?

Or...

The destruction of his personal reputation?

Forced to leave Korea once again and return to a life of solitude?

Various severe punishments from his parents?

The cancellation of shares and falling into poverty?

She couldn't even imagine the last two points. Because only she knew exactly what horrible things her parents were capable of doing to her.

When they were arguing the day before yesterday, Josh himself had even mentioned the rumors that her relationship with her family was not so good.

What would really happen if Josh witnessed the rumors he had speculated about become an outright fact later on? Would he laugh it off? Or would he be grateful and cheer on her defeat for not listening to his suggestions?

Ashley thought even harder in the silence that engulfed them both. Her head was working furiously to find other benefits she could get from the deal.

But wherever and however far she thought, all she could find was a pitch-black dead end. Her mind could not be persuaded to break through the huge barrier. There was not a single way out that could lead her to a better solution or an alternative plan.

But maybe, there should have been. There must be a way out that could be beneficial to her.

She had already experienced many misfortunes in her lifetime.

So now, why was Josh adding to the scattering of boulders along her path?

Almost all the people she knew could only bring her more pain and suffering. As if it was the fruit of karma that she had to accept without being able to get a chance to refuse or even oppose.

Very funny. Ashley Song's life story.

"For now and beyond, I just want us to get back on good terms like before. That's all. I don't think it'll be a difficult thing, since we have to live together."

After hearing Josh's one request, Ashley looked away with a grunt.

"I will not divorce you. And even if you decide to file a lawsuit against me yourself—at all costs I'll make sure you can't do it."

Now, the man was making more and more requests of all kinds.

Frustrated with the deadlock in her head, and also unable to bear this endless chatter with Josh, Ashley picked up her half-full rice bowl and soup bowl. She stood up and walked towards the kitchen without saying a word.

She couldn't utter a single rebuttal, nor did she want to agree to Josh's words let alone comply with his requests. Because then she would immediately show that her position was very weak compared to the man.

“Ash,” Josh, who saw Ashley's behavior, immediately called out to her.

But the girl had already walked and arrived very quickly at the sink in the kitchen cabinet. Then in accordance with Aunt Gong's message, she just put down her tableware without cleaning it.

To be honest, she currently didn't want to linger in the same area or in close proximity to that extremely annoying man either. If possible, she even wanted to leave her apartment so as not to run into Josh.

Bold of him assumed that Ashley could easily agree to make up and willingly stay together—as if nothing had happened, as if their relationship was fine.

After that, Ashley went straight to her room to get her purse and left. All that was going through her head at the moment was how to get as far away from Josh as possible. That's why she really needs to get out of that apartment for a while.

But go where?

Anywhere. Anywhere she can have special time to be completely alone and as far away from Josh as possible.

Josh was still silent in his seat and watched Ashley who moved quickly from one area of the room to another until disappearing out towards the main door.

Josh let out a long sigh. It seems that it is indeed very difficult to be able to melt and get forgiveness from Ashley. He didn't expect that the girl's temperament was too harsh.

It's good that he can refrain from talking if other than Ashley, there are other people who now know he is still in contact with Sharon. If she finds out, that girl might make him even more determined to finalize the divorce.

It also seemed that he didn't need to tell Ashley about his mother's wish to plan their honeymoon trip. He could only hope that his mother was so busy that she forgot, so that his burden could be reduced by one.

Ashley was stunned for a long time. And when Josh moved to move the chair back so she could sit down, that's when she returned to her senses. Her legs automatically moved closer to sit on the chair. She quietly inhaled and exhaled very slowly and carefully.Behind her confusion and nervousness that suddenly attacked her, there was a very odd feeling that somehow also sneaked into her heart at that moment. How could someone she once liked, who had never seen her as a girl, who she wanted to forget... was now sitting in front of her as her future husband.Josh returned to his seat across from Ashley, still with his thin smile that was hard to translate. “I've ordered food,” he raised his hand as he turned to one of the waiters standing not far from them for a signal. The waiter who caught Josh's instruction responded with a small nod and disappeared into a doorway.“Your favorite signature set,” Josh continued.Ashley, who had been following Josh's gaze, turned her head and looked at h

As promised, before five o'clock Mrs. Go was knocking on Ashley's door again. They said they were giving her time to rest. But before that she had been buried with a pile of big problems first. So how could she rest?Even just lying down and closing her eyes was impossible. Her head ached from the effects of the journey as well as being overwhelmed by the sentences written in the document. Meanwhile, her body continued to move restlessly with a sense of anxiety that she could not describe the excruciating sensation. After trying to lie down for almost half an hour and failing, Ashley got up and sat down again. Her eyes stared at the front cover of the folder and drifted into a blank reverie. Her head did feel full. But something inside didn't take shape at all. Everything was abstract and hard to decipher.Yet, she was not considering anything. Because there was nothing for her to consider. Everything her parents proposed was an order and a threat, not an offer. There was no way for h

Ashley was speechless. She was only able to stare at her mother who walked away fiercely. Even until the woman disappeared behind the majestic main door, she still looked there. It was as if the empty air had left a trace of her mother's sadism. It was only when the silhouette of Mrs. Go re-entering the house filled her vision that she came to her senses and quickly returned to the pages of documents. Her eyes twitched furiously as she continued the last sentence she had left. Her head lowered deeply to read it more clearly. As if to make sure all the series of letters he saw were not mere illusions.Word by word, sentence by sentence. Ashley read, combined, and deduced the meaning of everything written there. She forced her focus to be fully devoted to understanding all the articles of the agreement without misinterpreting them.“Miss,” Mrs. Go leaned over slightly to interrupt Ashley's focus, “I'll get a pen and your personal stamp.”“W-wait a minute,” Ashley suddenly raised her pal

ASHLEY’S SECOND RETURN—FLASHBACK“You've finally home. Sit down. And read this,” Ashley’s mother commanded as soon as she saw her daughter’s arrival at the house.Ashley had literally just arrived from a long flight from Auckland to Korea. Although she knew her days ahead would not be as easy as before, since the trip from the airport the only thing in her plan was that she could immediately sleep and relax her muscles that had been very stiff.Of course, that plan didn't come out of nowhere. She landed during the daytime. So it was obvious that neither of her parents were home during that time. That's why she dared to make such a plan. Especially when Mrs. Go, her assistant, said that she didn't have anything scheduled that afternoon. The most likely time she would see her parents was at dinner. It was then that she would probably know the exact reason she was called home—after a very long period of time, after all those long years she was sent away from home for the second time.Suc

Ashley regained her self-control after letting her emotions out through crying in one of the restaurant's private dining rooms. The crying was quite intense. But she did her best to muffle her voice, until all she could hear was a low, stifled shriek. Her tears overflowed. Her chest was tight. And her eyes were swollen after all the turmoil she had let out until there was nothing left. It was as if all the inner wounds that she had been suppressing, spilled out all at once without mercy.Someone might have heard her from outside. The waitress passing by might also want to go in and check the noise she was making. But Ashley couldn't hold back the explosion of anger and sadness that was clogging up her chest. She didn't even care about manners or shame anymore. After a while, she cleaned her face and slightly fixed her light makeup before exiting the room. Although the polish still couldn't cover her red and very puffy eyes. She took a deep breath before pushing open the door, hoping t

That afternoon, Ashley couldn't even look her parents in the face. The atmosphere between them became even more tense after Ashley went back inside, when she told them that Josh suddenly couldn't make it.“So, he's not coming anymore?” Ashley’s mother asked while stirring the soup that was already halfway in her small bowl."Yes. But it's not just because of his will. Suddenly there are a lot of urgent things he needs to get done for the launch of his project."Even when Ashley tried to convince her parents that Josh sounded really sorry for not being able to come and that what was preventing him was really office business that couldn't be left unattended, her mother's face just looked even more disgusted.Ashley was terrified that her lie would be caught, so she continued to earnestly try to tell all sorts of other lies, whatever came to mind, just to convince and lessen her parents' annoyance."That's twice already. How many more times do I have to tolerate his disrespectful behavio

Somun held his stomach as he tried to stop laughing. "Okay, okay. So what's your great plan?""I'll pretend to kill myself... But not pretend. Pretend, but not fake," Sharon tried to emphasize her most important point. “So, I'm going to really cut myself, but not so deep that I can't actually die.” she automatically demonstrated the motion of slicing her wrist with the knife she was holding. "That's why I need you here. You're in charge of taking me straight to the hospital as soon as I cut myself so that I can get medical attention quickly. After that, you also have to tell Josh that I'm in serious condition. Since he won't pick up my calls at all, you'll have to send word through his office phone. How?" Sharon's eyes looked serious as she explained her plan.Somun, however, went from underestimating it to thinking it was total nonsense. Because there was also a hint of worry that suddenly came to him."Crazy! The risk is too great. What if you really die before reaching the hospital

Sharon walked back and forth in her spacious living room with her cell phone held firmly in her hand. Occasionally, she frowned as she checked her silent cell phone. Then she walked back and forth again around the room. Checking the time of day, pacing again while seemingly deep in thought, and checking her cell phone again for the umpteenth time. But her messages and incoming calls remained the same as before. There was absolutely nothing new.Worst of all, her face would grow a thousand times more sour every time her outgoing calls went unanswered, and none of her messages were read by the recipient—Josh.“Wow, this is funny,” Somun, who was sitting casually with his legs crossed, was confused by Sharon's behavior. "You sent me here just to see you acting... walking back and forth like that? You think I don't have more important things to do than just watching you do weird things like this?" His tone was high with annoyance.Sharon only glared at the man briefly, then growled angril

“Sir,” a voice sounded in the distance. “Sir, excuse me, sir,” the voice came closer and clearer. “Sir!” then it sounded louder and more firm in his ears.Josh was shocked because when he opened his eyes he saw Mr. Jung—his secretary—looking at him in the face.Josh gasped and tried to sit up. He lifted his head and lowered his legs that had been bent overnight. His neck was stiff because he had fallen asleep on the short sofa in his office, so his head bent uncomfortably.“Are you staying here, Sir?” Mr. Jung looked surprised from the expression on his face. "Today we have a morning meeting with all the divisions.” The man immediately recited Josh's schedule report—as if it was automatic because it had become a habit in doing his work. “Are you going home first to get ready? Would you like me to make you some coffee?“Josh rubbed his eyes and massaged his forehead. ”I don't think so. I'll just take a shower here. When is the meeting?""It's still about two hours away.
