Chapter 2

Author: Rainy Slumber
The bodyguards heard Gabby’s screams and immediately rushed forward to drag Mary and me out of the door.

“Let us go! How dare you do this to us!”

I struggled and freed one hand to grab my phone from my bag.

“I’m going to call John now. I want him to come out and explain this mess!”

Upon seeing that, Gabby dashed over and slapped my phone away.

She yelled exaggeratedly and held her flat tummy.

“My tummy! Quick, capture her. None of you will escape unscathed if something happens to my child!”

The security guards were afraid of getting fired, so they were more forceful with their actions.

A security guard shoved Mary. She tripped and hit her forehead against a wall corner. Blood immediately gushed out.

“Mary!”

My heart almost stopped. I suddenly found a spurt of energy and struggled free. Then, I threw myself over Mary to protect her.

I shielded her from all the punches and kicks.

Gabby looked extremely vicious.

“What a harlot! How dare you come over here and make a scene over my man! Hit her! Let’s see if she dares to go against me after this!”

The punches kept coming.

I gritted my teeth and made sure I shielded Mary fully.

Mary was shaking in rage and grief. A mixture of tears and blood streamed down her face.

“Aren’t you afraid of getting caught? I’m John’s mother! You savages…”

The manager was afraid that something bad would happen if they continued, so he immediately ran into the meeting room to get John.

“Stop!”

Someone yelled loudly.

John frowned and walked out in annoyance as he was disturbed.

When he saw me and my messy appearance, he froze.

He rapidly suppressed his emotions.

“What’s going on out here? What is this mess?”

Gabby acted like he was a god.

She grabbed his arms and said sadly, “John, you’re finally here! I was so terrified. This crazy woman came over with her mother and accused me of being a mistress! They even wanted me to get rid of my baby!”

I looked at John and suppressed my anger. “John, what’s going on? You’d better have a good explanation for this!”

John looked at the two of us.

He struggled with himself for a while, but when he saw that the manager and security guards were around, he said stiffly, “What should I explain? I don’t know you.”

He paused and continued despite the shocked gazes from Mary and me.

“I’ve seen so many scammers like you! You always aim for the customers who are purchasing high-end properties. You start by creating a fake identity and hurting others when you’re rejected. All in all, you’re just trying to get money!”

He turned toward the manager and questioned him fiercely.

“My wife and I are here to purchase a property. How dare you let some unknown lunatics in here to hurt us?”

The manager’s expression changed, and he immediately apologized.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Anderson. I’m calling the police to take them away, and I’ll make sure they’ll never appear here ever again!”

“John, how dare you? Look at your mother and say it again!”

I almost could not believe my ears. I started to shake from anger.

Mary was panting as she stared intently at her own son.

However, John acted as though he had heard nothing. He waved impatiently and instructed the security guards.

“What are you waiting here for? Get rid of these two scammers.

“You don’t have to call the police. It’s the New Year, after all. I’m going to offer them some goodwill and let them off the hook. Just check if they have stolen anything or if they’re carrying anything dangerous.”

I repeated John’s cruel words to him. The arrogance on his face disappeared. It was replaced with a look of grief and resignation. I did not let it stop me. I insisted that he could either agree to a divorce or head over to the police station. John gave in because of his mother’s life. When he walked out of the building, Gabby showed up at the entrance with her family. They grabbed John by the collar and forced him to pay for her pregnancy. John kept arguing and said that Gabby had consented to the affair, so he would not make any payment. The only choice they had was letting Gabby marry him. However, Gabby no longer wanted him after knowing that he had lost his fortune. In the end, the messy incident ended with a fight when John accused Gabby of being a prostitute. I did not want to watch any of their drama, so I left with my parents after leaving some instructions with my secretary. That night, my secretary updated me. “The manager and security guards are all

John paused. As he sprawled on the floor, he was dumbfounded like a complete idiot. Suddenly, he screamed. “Are you saying that the old lady just now…“Impossible! Why would my mom be here?”I was completely speechless. “I’ve been saying that since the start. You were too stubborn to believe that it’s actually your mother.“You even threatened me with her life!” If he had not allowed Gabby to run wild, Mary would not be injured, and her face would not be covered in blood. He would not have mistaken her for my mother due to the dirt and grime. I had tried my best to remind him. However, he was not willing to listen. He kept claiming that I was lying to him. My parents finally caught on. “What an ungrateful child! I shouldn’t have agreed to your marriage to my daughter.“You don’t deserve to live! How can you be so cruel to scold and hit an old person!“We’ve treated you like our own all these years. I didn’t expect you to be this cruel!” John was dumbfounded

In the past, whenever John used this excuse, I would drop the case. After all, I knew John had a difficult childhood. He was from a poor family. Mary had brought him up all alone. I respected Mary a lot. Whenever we visited her over the holidays, I would always try my best to support her in living a better life. However, ever since my company expanded, I started to focus on my career. I had no choice but to pass the money to John when he visited his mother. Whenever John returned, he would tell me how difficult it was for his mother to live alone in the countryside. However, she did not expect anything from me because she knew that I was busy working and did not want kids. Every time I heard that, I felt sorry for Mary. I also felt that John was having a hard time taking care of his mother alone, and that being with me caused him intense pressure. Hence, when John asked for money to improve Mary’s life, I never said no. For him to gain a respectable standing in th

My parents had brought a group of policemen along and barged in angrily. Ever since I graduated from university, my parents had immediately handed me the company and went travelling around the world. However, that did not mean that they would look the other way when I was in trouble. John’s face became ghastly. “Peter, Janice, what are you doing here? We were just having an argument. “Helen, you’re blowing things out of the water here. We’re just arguing. Why did you ask your parents to come over?”I immediately retreated when he tried to approach me with a hug. “Everyone knows what has happened. Why would I lie to cover for you?”My mother started crying when she saw my flustered state. She hugged me tightly. “Don’t be afraid, Helen, I’m here to protect you.”My father turned around and spoke to the police. “We would like to lodge a police report. Not only did this man cheat on my daughter, but he also abused my daughter and transferred their marital assets withou

After hearing the doctor’s words, everyone who was watching us took John’s side and started to scold me. They were acting righteously, as if they were about to burn me at the stake. Richard paused when he heard the doctor’s words. He stared a little hesitantly at me. “Helen, if you have proof that what you’re saying is true, I can help you.”I silently looked at my phone, which had been smashed into pieces. John asked the security guards to take Mary out. I wanted to stop him, but he stared viciously at me. “Helen, I’m the only one who can get your mother some help. Are you sure you want to go against me?”I stared at Mary, who was unconscious, and relented. I only glared dangerously at John. “If you dare to pull anything, you’ll regret this.” John laughed maliciously. “How dare you threaten me?“You should remain calm and think of your mother.“If something happens to her, you’ll be the one who regrets it.”I could not even say a word. After a long stretch o

  • The Price of Lies   Chapter 3

Just as John finished speaking, the security guards rushed forward and tried to stop us. Gabby even started recording us on her phone. “Everyone, look! These two shameless lunatics are trying to ruin our New Year.“She even pretended to be my husband’s wife to scam us! They didn’t expect to bump into me, the actual wife, and their plan has failed! “Please share this video after you watch it so they won’t be able to scam other people!” A few passersby saw what happened. They started pointing fingers at us. Mary had never felt so insulted in her entire life. She crawled over to grab John’s pants. “John, how can you do this?”John and Gabby were frightened. When John saw that it was an unfashionable old lady with her face covered in blood, he just kicked her impatiently. “Who is this old hag? How dare you touch me? I’m going to chop your hand off!” Mary fell to the floor in fright. She suddenly pressed her hand against her chest in pain. I looked at her panting a
