Chapter 4

After hearing the doctor’s words, everyone who was watching us took John’s side and started to scold me.

They were acting righteously, as if they were about to burn me at the stake.

Richard paused when he heard the doctor’s words. He stared a little hesitantly at me.

“Helen, if you have proof that what you’re saying is true, I can help you.”

I silently looked at my phone, which had been smashed into pieces.

John asked the security guards to take Mary out.

I wanted to stop him, but he stared viciously at me.

“Helen, I’m the only one who can get your mother some help. Are you sure you want to go against me?”

I stared at Mary, who was unconscious, and relented.

I only glared dangerously at John.

“If you dare to pull anything, you’ll regret this.”

John laughed maliciously.

“How dare you threaten me?

“You should remain calm and think of your mother.

“If something happens to her, you’ll be the one who regrets it.”

I could not even say a word.

After a long stretch of silence, I took a step back with a sneer.

“John’s right, I’m a scammer.

“Please don’t believe in any of my words.

“To prevent any further damage to you, Richard, could you help call the police? I’m willing to turn myself in at the police station and bear the consequences for my actions.”

John nodded smugly. He was very pleased to see me give in to him.

However, he quickly stopped me when I uttered the last sentence.

“There’s no need to call the police. Since you already realized your mistake, I believe the incident earlier is already enough of a punishment for you.

“We’re here to buy a house. No one is going to waste their time at the police station with you. Let’s not waste the authorities’ time.

“That should be it. Everyone can be dismissed!”

Gabby also immediately nodded.

“John’s right. This is normal to us. I’m fine as long as she apologizes. There’s no need to blow this up any further. It’s bad for the New Year.

“I bet this man has something else to tend to. We don’t have to trouble him.”

However, I insisted.

“No way, how can you ensure that I have never scammed someone else before? It’ll be your fault if you cause losses to other people by letting me off the hook!

“Richard, please help me to call the police!

“Besides, please call my family members and ask my mother to come here immediately!”

When I was on the way here, I had already sent a text message to notify my mother.

Not my mother-in-law.

John misunderstood me.

He grabbed my arm and glared at me furiously.

“Helen, what are you trying to do now?

“Your mother is with me. If you agree to stop making a scene, I’ll let her off the hook!

“With a single word from me, you’ll never see your mother ever again!

“If you still want to go against me, don’t blame me for what happens next!”

I stared coldly at him.

“John, your mother has always loved you so much, and is this how you’re repaying her?”

John frowned suspiciously.

Before he could think about it, Gabby already rushed him with her coy voice.

“John, I don’t feel well. Hurry.”

John then immediately looked impatient.

He typed a few words on his phone.

Then, someone sent him a few photos.

When I looked at Mary’s bloodied state, I could not help but shut my eyes.

“Helen, now you know it’s not a good idea to go against me.

“I’m warning you, you better not run your mouth wherever you go. Otherwise, I’m going to prolong your mother’s suffering!”

He threatened me viciously and raised his voice.

Before I could speak, a bold male voice started speaking.

“What are you planning to do to my wife?”

I was happy to hear my father’s angry voice.

John’s face immediately fell.

“You… wait, why is your mother there?”
