4.
All the wolves who were of age to fight gathered in front of Ragnar's palace after he had summoned them. "The humans have betrayed us. They have killed some of us. They want a war and we would give them that. Spare no one, we are barraging the palace first." "Yes, Alpha!" The wolves chorused. "Let us show them that our kindness was a privilege. They have silver, but we have our inner beast. Unleash your wolf on whoever crosses your path" "Yes, Alpha!" They chorused. Ragnar went back into the house to find his wife. He saw her picking an arrow from its case. "What are you doing?" "Fighting with you." She said, without looking at him, and continued to store more arrows in the quiver around her waist. "Nonsense!" Ragnar spat, going to her and removing all of the arrows with her. "Did you forget? Today is the birth date. You would not fight in this condition" "I cannot just watch. I have to protect the palace while you're gone. I have to protect the other women who have stayed back…" "It's not your place to do that. I have assigned guards to stay with the women and children. But you, my wife, must be under my watch" he said. Philipa swallowed but then her voice broke again. "It is unfolding just as it was in my dream" she sobbed. Ragnar studied his wife very intensely as she continued speaking. "You were not with me…" She broke down in tears. "I have to protect myself also, Ragnar" He hugged Philipa from the side comforting her. He hated that some part of her dreams always came to pass. He would do all he could to protect his mate. "I'll come for you, Philipa," he said. "Go to the safe grove, stay there in silence. I will come for you. Trust me." Philipa looked into her husband's eyes. Trust. That was the footing of their relationship so she trusted him as he created her. He was a man of his word. If he said he would come for her, he would. "I'll be waiting for you." She told him and he nodded, kissing her on the forehead. She continued "I looked for Razor everywhere, but I couldn't find him." "That boy…" Ragnar spat, looking around. "He should be fighting along with me. Where did he run to?" "No, Ragnar. He is just twelve. Let him come with me." Ragnar bit the inside of his cheek, but then listened to his wife. "Find him and get both of you to the safe grove as soon as you can. The humans would raid the palace if we raid theirs" Ragnar went back outside to the army of wolves awaiting him. They had only arrows and their wolf self, but the humans had silver arrows and swords. Ragnar was confident that if silver didn't touch the wolves, they would win the fight. Yet, he was also skeptical. Godric had mentioned that humans had been scheming this for a long time. What if their weapons outnumbered the wolves? How could he be so slack as not to notice the human's insincerity? As the wolves left the palace, Philipa dashed into an empty room. "Razor" her high-pitched voice filled the room as she began checking the corners of the room to see if Razor was playing his usual tricks. "I put him to sleep myself yesterday" she muttered, leaving the room. "Razor!" Her voice went higher, filling the palace. "Have you seen Razor?" She asked a guard who nodded negatively. "Where could that boy be?" She had to take him with her to the safe grove. He was just twelve, he needed to be protected too. And he was her son -her foster son. He had come into her life at such a sudden - "Luna." Philipa turned to see Razor standing in the corridor of the balcony, walking towards her. Her face crumpled, letting him know how upset she was because he ran off at a tense moment. Moreover, it was midnight, where could he have run off to? "What would I do with you, boy?" She hissed her teeth as she walked to him and dusted off the grass on his body. "Luna. I will take you to the safe grove." Razor said in a big voice. "We had better leave on time then," Philipa grabbed his hands. As they took a few important things, the two walked into the forest in search of the grove. It was a wolf thing to always build a place for safety in the woods. They wandered and roamed, in silence which made Philipa worried because Razor was hardly silent. Yet, she was thankful, because they needed all the silence they could have to hide from the humans. Sometimes, the boy just always knows the right thing to do. Finally, they got to the safe grove, a small hut covered with grass that could hardly be noticed in the forest. One might think it was just a heap of grass. They entered into it and Razor guided Philipa to sit. She was panting from walking a long distance in her condition. When she had sat, the boy's eyes settled on her for a long time. "Luna, don't make a sound. Stay here till the war is over" he said boldly. Philipa nodded. "I will. You should also not make a sound" she chuckled. "I'll protect you, Razor." she held his palm tightly. "No, Luna. I will protect you." Her lips spread. "You think you're a big wolf? I am still your Luna." Razor buried his head down for a while. "Mother..." He called, raising his head to look at Philipa. Her eyes widened at his statement, he had never called her that, and it...it felt good to be called Mother. "Razor..." She cupped his cheeks in her palm, her lips pouting. She noticed how his eyes watered and how he stared deeply at her. "What is wrong, dear? Is something troubling you?" "I am sorry." His voice broke and tears streamed down his face. "I am sorry, Mother." He closed his eyes. Philipa held him very close to herself. "Tell me, what is wrong?" Her voice broke too, unable to see her child vulnerable. "Stay safe. You and your child. Please stay safe" his voice cracked. He proceeded to kiss Philipa on her forehead. "I have to go, Mother," She gripped him by the hand, her eyes shooting up. "Go where?" "To..to..." He stuttered and didn't find a word to say. Philipa studied him very intently. This was not the Razor she knew. "Bye mother" he pulled his hand from her grip and ran out of the safe grove before she could pull him back. "Razor!" Philipa's voice came from her inside, but as she tried to stand up, her abdomen cramped and she groaned in pain.11. Ragnar with his back turned on her, closed his eyes, hoping to hear some cracking of bones and growls, but nothing came. "Calantha" he called."It's coming, father. Wait, please" she told him. He hoped. He believed. One glance at the full moon and he prayed to the goddess again. His daughter must… "It's taking too long, Calantha," Ragnar said, getting impatient."Father. I am a late bloomer, just a little longer, I feel it coming from my inside father." She responded, but truly all she felt was an uneven heartbeat and trembling hands. "Please work, please" she muttered under her breath.Calantha saw no change, none of what her siblings or boyfriend described to her as shifting. No frenzy feeling, just fear of her father turning to see that she had no wolf. She looked at the moon. "I'll give you all you want goddess, please make this happen" she whispered, her eyes dimmed with tears."I'm turning back now," her father said."Father, wait""I've waited enough!" Ragnar roared, turn
10. EIGHTEEN YEARS LATER ___°°°___ CALANTHA THUNDER. Calantha hid in the storage room with the boy she liked - the Beta's son. They had promised to meet at twilight before her birthday. Now they were here, in the dark as she stared at his glowy eyes. "You'll be eighteen in an hour," he said to her, and then touched her shoulders. "This would mean everything to us." She nodded and smiled. "When I shift to my wolf, we would announce our relationship to my father." "And get married months after," the boy said and they both chuckled. "It feels surreal" she exhaled and held his hands. He moved steps closer to her and then his fingers slowly brushed her nipples. Calantha was startled, as she moved away from him. "What are you doing?" Her brows raised. "You promised me." He said. "I only promised you a kiss, but you cannot touch my body.
9. Queen Daphne walked with several guards into the forest. It was morning and the day was bright, the war had ended and several corpses were being dragged to be buried. Queen Daphne had returned to the palace and summoned guards to search for Drew since he had never come back. They spread out into the forest until one of them said. "We found him." Daphne rushed over to where they were and she saw Drew on the floor, one of his eyes plucked out as he lay unconscious. But he was still alive."Carry him" she ordered and the other guards carried Drew on their backs. They went back to the palace and he was given medications immediately. Daphne walked into the King's room. "We found him," she told her husband. He was in the room with the little wolf boy, Razor. "He was hurt by those monsters," she said and Razor's eyes met hers.King Godric exhaled. "Did you find Belena...and her child?"Daphne swallowed. She couldn't bel
8. Luna Philipa crawled back to the safe grove with her bloody thighs, ripped belly, and pale face. But she had ensured that the royal guard was also left in the same agony. She entered the small hut and tears ran down her cheek. "My child" her eyes turned red and her face was burning, she held onto her belly where blood was gushing out. The incident replayed in her head, her child was barely an hour old, how could... The humans! They were going to pay dearly for this! As she tried to lie down on the floor to calm her dizziness, her eyes drifted to a corner and she saw...a child. She sprang up immediately, her eyes broadening. She quickly remembered; she had told the woman to go into the safe grove and the woman had kept her child. Philipa stretched her hand toward the newborn, but flinched. "No" her lips trembled. "That's not my child." She cried. "That's not my heir" she whimpered, her teeth making a chattering noise. The newborn began to cry. "Shh. Sshh" Philipa hushed
7. Alpha Ragnar watched in terror as his wolves battled with humans. The humans were gaining a victory and the bodies of his wolves lay on the ground. The humans' plan to take the wolves down must have been perfectly orchestrated for this to happen. "Raid their town!" He heard the human guards say as they all trotted toward his wolf territory. He worried for the women and children he had left behind. Grabbing the hand of his beta, he let out a low whisper. "Go back home. Tell anyone who can survive to meet us at the borders! The war is over." The beta ran off as he had been ordered. Ragnar scampered into the palace looking for King Godric, his fist balled at the sides. Three guards stopped in front of him and he clawed them out of his way, shifting into his wolf form and fighting them with his Alpha's strength. He shifted back and walked to Godric's throne room, pushing the door with his feet. Ragnar stood still as several guards pointed arrows and swords toward him. "My
6. Luna Philipa cuddled her male child to herself. She had been groaning in pain after her twelve-year-old, Razor, ran off. She didn't know what to feel, pain for letting Razor go, or pain from her abdomen. She eventually went into labor and birthed her male pup, all on her own. She sat with her child behind a tree a little distance from the safe grove she had crawled out from when she was in labour. "My heir is here" she muttered kissing the forehead of her child. This was the child she had borne herself, the long-awaited heir. She knew, her husband, Alpha Ragnar would be so delighted at this news when he came for her. "We can talk about this, please." Philipa heard a faint voice in the forest where she was. A voice that was not hers. A frail...needy voice. "No. No. Please" she heard again, it was louder this time. Philipa held onto her child tightly as she stood up and took two steps forward toward the voice. "No." She told herself. She had to stay around the safe grove,
