LESSIE

If there’s one thing I’ve mastered lately, it’s running late.

That morning was no different.

I was half-sprinting through the hallway, clutching my coffee with one hand while the other rummaged hopelessly through my bag for my literature notes.

My heart pounded against my ribs as the bell blared overhead, echoing through the long corridor like a cruel reminder of my terrible time management.

“Crap, crap, crap,” I muttered under my breath, shifting my bag higher on my shoulder.

Just as I turned the corner, head still buried in my bag I crashed hard into someone.

My coffee went flying, papers rained down like confetti, and the sound of scattering pens and a cracking perfume bottle filled the air.

“Oh my God, I’m so sorry!” I gasped, immediately dropping to my knees to gather my things.

My pulse quickened as embarrassment flushed hot through my cheeks.

“It’s alright,” the stranger said softly.

Something about that voice made my stomach twist. Calm. Familiar.

I didn’t look up

LESSIEI woke up and saw just white. At first I thought I'd died and maybe gone to heaven . But the pain that followed told me that was impossible. The ceiling above me is etched with glowing runes. They pulse faintly, reacting to my breath, my heartbeat, my thoughts. The air felt heavier here, like it pressed down on me, reminding me that I am contained.Special ward. That is what the nurse whispered when she thought I was asleep.Designed for supernatural cases. My eyes burned. At this point the pain was becoming so unbearable and I wished there was a way to make it go away.Silver light reflected off the glass walls surrounding the bed. I can see myself in the faint reflection. My pupils are gone. Replaced by something luminous, something ancient. My wolf stirred, restless.I try to speak.“Water,” I whispered. The word didn't come out right. It echoed inside my skull, loud, layered, like several voices speaking at once. Pain spiked behind my eyes and I gasped, clutching the sheet

LESSIEThe hospital was never truly quiet.Even at night, it breathed. Machines hummed. Wheels squeaked down corridors. Someone always coughed, cried, whispered a prayer into the dark. I lay awake staring at the ceiling, counting the cracks, listening to the slow rhythm of my own heart, waiting for pain to fade enough for sleep to take me.It never did.Ethan sat in the chair by the window, pretending to scroll through his phone. He had been doing that for nearly an hour, thumb moving without focus, eyes too sharp, too alert. I could feel his tension from across the room like static.Something was off.A soft knock came at the door.Ethan looked up instantly. Before either of us could speak, a young orderly slipped inside, eyes darting nervously. He did not look at me. He went straight to Ethan and pressed a folded piece of paper into his hand.“Someone said it was urgent,” the orderly whispered. “They said not to log it.”Then he was gone. The door shut quietly. That was strange. Thi

LESSIECeleste walked into my hospital room the second we almost looked at her.Calm. Composed. Elegant. Like she was stepping into a private lounge instead of a ward filled with heart monitors and the smell of antiseptic. Her heels clicked softly against the floor, each sound deliberate, measured. The lights overhead flickered. Once. Twice. Her energy was too much and now it has began to pull anything that was close to her.A nurse screamed somewhere down the hallway.I felt it immediately. The shift in the air. The prickle along my skin. The way my wolf recoiled so violently it made my vision blur. My hands began to shake before my mind could catch up.The ritual chamber slammed into my memory without warning.Stone walls. Chains biting into my wrists. The sound of chanting. The smell of blood and burning herbs. My chest tightened painfully.Dante moved in front of me without thinking. His body blocked my view of her, broad shoulders tense, every muscle coiled and ready. His presenc

LESSIEThe wheelchair felt more awful than I expected. The metal frame pressed into my sides as the nurse pushed me down the long white hallway toward physical therapy. Every movement sent sharp pains through my body and reminded me of how close I had come to dying. My ribs screamed with every breath. My head throbbed. My legs felt like they belonged to someone else.I clenched my hands together in my lap and focused on breathing.In.Out.“First sessions are always the hardest,” the therapist said gently as she opened the glass doors. “But we’ll take it slow.”Slow still felt like torture. At this point I just wanted to be left alone. As they wheeled me inside, my eyes drifted to the glass wall that separated the therapy room from the hallway. And there he was.Dante.He paced back and forth like a caged animal, hands clenched, shoulders tense, eyes fixed on the floor and then snapping back up to me. He refused to come in. He always did that now. Since I woke up from coma he has been

CHAPTER 130PROFESSOR DANTE The campus felt like a living, breathing thing, buzzing with whispers that clawed at me the moment I stepped onto the grounds. Every corridor I passed, every lecture hall I walked past, I could hear the gossip about lessie and it was draining. Students leaned against lockers, their heads bent, eyes darting. In the cafeteria, forks clattered onto plates as conversations stuttered when I entered.I clenched my jaw, refusing to look. My wolf howled in my chest, furious, protective, burning like wildfire. Lessie had been the center of attention before, but now after the accident, she was a focal point of pity, speculation, and curiosity. Some students whispered about “tragic accidents,” others murmured, “Maybe it wasn’t an accident at all.”The thought made my chest tighten.I gritted my teeth and strode past the lunch lines, ignoring the stares and murmurs. Every step, every glance, made me almost punched someone. By the time I reached the Council chamber,

  • The Professor, My Mate   Chapter 129

LESSIEI woke up with a jolt, every nerve screaming. Pain stabbed through my ribs, jagged and sharp, and I swallowed against it, forcing air into my lungs. The hospital room spun for a second. White walls. Beeping monitors. Dante. He sat in the chair beside me, hunched over, elbows on his knees, head resting against his palms. Red-rimmed eyes. Dark circles under them. His jaw was tight, lips pressed into a thin line. I wanted to reach for him, to touch, to say something but every movement hurt, every breath felt like knives.“You… flatlined twice,” he whispered without looking at me. His voice cracked, just slightly, but it was enough. “Twice, Lessie. Luckily your wolf refused to let you die. I couldn’t…” His hands trembled as he ran them through his hair. “I couldn’t believe you wanted to leave me so bad that you'd die while at it.”I almost smiled. But instead, my throat burned, and all I could do was watch him, my own heart twisting. That space between us felt wider than any canyo
