She walked past a group of employees, smiling sweetly as she greeted them. When she reached her office, she paused and looked across the room. Maya was already seated at her desk, typing away.

Maya looked up and gave her a small smile. Gabby smiled back, but her thoughts raced. There was something off about Maya, something she couldn’t quite explain.

She had been avoiding questions, and Gabby realized that she pretended to be helpful but never asked for guidance. She had been making and receiving strange phone calls, too

Gabby had seen her walk into the washroom too many times with her phone in hand. Gabby sat at her desk and stared at her screen.

She remembered how Maya tried to meet with Steve alone that day, claiming that she wanted to help with the anniversary event even though Gabby was leading it.
