Miracle: The Sun-Wolf

VIVIANA

I stepped down from my car. Well, it’s not even a car. It’s a cab, to be precise. My high ankle black boots made boot-y noises over the hard asphalt road outside my workplace: The Police Station, The Precinct.

Yes, I am an Officer in the South City Precinct. I have been working as an investigating officer for one year now. Yesterday was my first work anniversary. Unfortunately, it got to spend it running after those bastards; the criminals. What a fate I have!

I was about to settle over my desk when Emma smacked my ass. She always does that. I kind of am habituated now. She wiggled her eyes in all possible directions.

“Hey, hoty, what’s up?” She has that British accent that I am fond of. That is the only thing about her I love the most. She smacked oy when she had a favor to ask. I crossed my arms across my chest.

“Spill it,” I ordered. Emma joined as my junior six months ago, but she is such a trouble maker. May it be on-duty or off-duty, I ended up cleaning her mess. She is my only friend. A true one.

“I messed up the reports that Captain asked. I need help. You, babe, are my safe side. Help me.” Well, I take my words back about Emma being a true friend. She pisses me. She did that. Just now.

“Is this the way you ask for help, Em?” I darted. I was certain to pierce my gaze into her grey pupils. She, as always, didn’t bother. She stepped forward and hugged me. No, it wasn’t a hug. She just choked me.

I separated her only to inhale a mouthful of air. “You…you trouble-maker, do you want to choke me to death?” I acted within raspy, struggled breaths. Of course, I acted. But that little blondie looked through my acts. Why always?

“Don’t act, Babe. You can’t. Now be a good senior and help me before that asshole kicks me out of the Precinct.” Emma begged. I witnessed her hands genuinely folded. Her eyes sent me clear signals. I was her last hope. I smiled. I sighed. She was really something. She chirped instantly. Butch, she saw through my smile.

Emma ran to her desk. She was collecting files. It must have been the report she mentioned a moment ago. I patted my back in my mind. ‘Go, Viv, you have to work hard.’ I consoled my tired brain, my aching back. Just another hour. That’s when I felt her snort.

“Miracle!” I called her. My wolf. She was pissed. She was tired. She wanted to play in the woods, to rest, and lie down over the forest floor. Her happy place in this whole insanely bustling city.

“I want out, Viv,” Miracle growled in my mind. She wanted to take control. “No. Not here, Miracle.” I tried to control her. She had been such a dominating wolf. Miracle used to stay silent during my duty hours. But recently, she wasn’t as silent as she should have been.

“Why?” Another growl.

“We can’t risk shifting. Too many humans,” I said. I felt as if I had sneaked from an asylum. If somebody had seen me talking like that, I would have been sent for a check-up. The usual protocol the Precinct followed.

“It’s suffocating. I want to run, Viv. Let go.” Miracle urged. Again! I couldn’t take it. Not anymore. I shut my eyes, inhaled deep breaths. But in vain.

“No. And NO. I must work. You are messing. Stay in. Stay silent. Got it?” I roared. In my mind, of course. Miracle grumbled loudly. I let out a whimper. Her howl in my mind was quite loud. I felt it deafening. In the other instance, it was calm. Miracle was silent! No, she was pissed. I would have to let her take over for more hours now. It’s hard here. With humans, it’s painful for a werewolf to suppress the wolf.

I grabbed my chair and landed over the soft seat with a thud. My eyes did a quick scan of reports, and I wanted to find Emma. I wanted to beat the shit out of her. How could she mess up so bad? This clumsy girl!

Had it not been for Emma's little wolf, I would have never been this good to her. When Captain first scolded her, she was way too heartbroken. I bought her shrimps. She is a glutton. Her first shift was a month after she joined. She was such a baby, horrified and shocked. The shift isn’t a happy event. It is cruel when nobody is there to help you.

Emma was lucky to have me. I wasn’t. I had no one. No mother, no father, no friends, and absolutely no siblings. I was merely sixteen. It’s been almost three years. Miracle was a shy wolf. But now, she is such a dominating one. Maybe it’s her nature. She is a Sun-wolf. I am not certain of what it means. An old lady called Miracle ‘Sun-wolf'. Her eyes held anxiousness, worries, fear, and her expressions let me conclude that she had never something like Miracle.

The lady must have been a werewolf or something supernatural for she disappeared in an instant after that unwanted encounter. Unlike Emma's wolf Emmy, Miracle is a brown wolf with a brown, thick, bushy tail, and long ears with light chocolate inner skin. Miracle is a huge wolf. Emma didn’t believe it after she saw Miracle for the first time.

Well, I love Miracle the most. She is a part of me. But I adore her eyes. The blue shining orbs. She could see miles and recognize instantly. It’s one of her abilities. These days, all Miracle does is piss me. She wants to go back. ‘I want to go home. We belong to the pack. We don’t belong here.’ She urges that almost every day.

We can’t. I can’t. There is nothing left. Nobody would ever want me in the pack after what mother had done. After that horrible night. After that bloodshed. After everything. But Miracle is a wolf. A wolf growing up and exploring the world without a pack. She has her needs and I can’t ignore them. Not for a long time.

“Done,” I muttered. I rested my back against that chair. So comfortable. How good! “Miracle, we can go home now. You can run in the woods after I find Emma,” I said in my mind. Miracle didn’t respond. I knew it. She was pissed. She is such a stubborn wolf. I sighed.

“Here. It’s done. Next time, don’t find me for these lame tasks.” I glared at Emma who scanned my figure. Her eyes landed over my legs. I know they were shaking, but Emma you didn’t have to stare.

“Eyes up,” I warned Emma. She smiled and grabbed her little bag shutting off that computer she always had been sticking to.

“Emmy also wants to run.” Emma walked out occasionally peeling above her shoulder. That smile never left her lips. Cheeky. I surrendered. Maybe, Miracle would come out after Emmy did. The thought seemed dubious to me. But I had to try.

“She is pissed. I yelled at her. Now, she cornered herself.” I confessed to Emma. We were in the middle of the city forest. Emma's clothes had been kissing the ground and her wolf Emmy waited for Miracle. Emma's mother was the beta's mate. Her father died before she was born. Her mother left Emma. She wasn’t able to provide for her.

It was hard in this city. But Emma survived. I felt like a protector. She was like my sister. She had no one except me. I had no one. We were for each other.

“Miracle,” Emmy called my angry wolf. I found Miracle snorting. Stubborn. “Emmy wants to run in the woods. Won’t you play with Emmy?” Emmy asked again. Emma's wolf Emmy addresses herself with her name. Miracle growled in my mind dominating. I leaned on my all fours. Within a second, Miracle was there. A giant brown wolf with shining golden fur.

Sometimes, I wondered that Miracle was as vibrant as the sun. Hence, the Sun-wolf. I have yet to find more about Miracle. Unlike me, Miracle won’t ever leave Emmy. She was way more territorial and protective for Emmy. A good thing for that little trouble.

Emmy ran ahead waving her tail when the moon shined in the night sky. A beautiful sight. This forest, my happy place, our happy place. Miracle joined Emmy soon taking lead, as a leader.
