Adriane was living a life she thought was normal, that was up until her sixteenth birthday. This was when she first turned. She had absolutely no knowledge of what was happening and no prior warning about what she was about to go through. It was excruciatingly painful, the single most horrible experience in her life. But what did the most damage was the look of sheer horror on her parents' faces at the mere sight of her. Even her little sister had the mind to call her a monster confirming Adriane's worst fears. She'd turned into the very thing that plagued her nightmares. That's when she lost it, that's when she broke out and ran. She didn't stop running until she plummeted into a world she never knew existed, a world she is now a part of.

I arranged the presentation files carefully on the conference table, aligning each one perfectly in front of a seat. Next, I placed bottles of water beside them, smoothing out the edges of my dress with trembling hands. I exhaled slowly, stepping back to assess my work. Everything was in place for the meeting with Adrian Blackwood, the CEO.
The door swung open, and the board members began filing in, their conversations blending into a steady hum. I took my seat beside my manager, gripping my iPad and light pen, ready to take notes.
Just minutes before the meeting was set to begin, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I hesitated, then leaned toward my manager. “Excuse me, sir. I need to use the restroom.”
He shot me a pointed look. “Make it quick. I don’t want you missing a thing in this meeting.”
I nodded and hurried out, my heels clicking against the polished floor. The elevator doors slid open, and just as I stepped forward, Adrian Blackwood strode out. His attention was locked on his phone, his expression unreadable. A wave of his rich, expensive cologne filled the air, making my breath hitch.
He passed by without a glance, his assistant trailing behind him. I released the breath I hadn’t realized I was holding and stepped into the elevator.
The moment the doors closed, my phone rang again. I pressed it to my ear. “Hello?”
A shaky voice responded, urgency laced in every word. “Miss Nathaniel, you need to come to the hospital. It’s an emergency.”
My heart stuttered. I didn’t need to ask who it was about.
“Nora?” My voice came out as a whisper, my fingers tightening around the phone.
“I can’t say much over the phone, but you need to hurry.”
The call ended.
For a moment, I stood frozen, my mind reeling. Then, with trembling hands, I pressed the button for the ground floor. The elevator felt agonizingly slow. The moment the doors opened, I bolted toward my desk, grabbing my bag.
“I’ll explain later,” I muttered under my breath, already making my way toward the exit.
Nothing mattered more than getting to my daughter.

I rushed into the hospital, completely out of breath. A nurse spotted me and approached.
“Sarah, you need to see Dr. Harris. She’s been waiting for you.”
The sterile smell of disinfectant filled my nostrils as I followed her down the hallway, my pulse pounding in my ears. In the consultation room, Dr. Harris—a kind-eyed woman in her sixties—stood waiting.
“Sarah,” she said gently, her voice carrying a weight that made my stomach churn. “We need more money to move forward with the next level of treatment for Nora. Her condition is worsening.”
I gripped the back of a chair to steady myself. “But… but she was doing better last week,” I croaked.
She sighed, sympathy etched into her features. “The medications we’ve been using are no longer effective.”
I shook my head as if that would change the reality of her words. “What does she need?” My voice wavered.
“The new treatment is expensive,” she admitted. “We’re looking at over two million dollars.”
The number hit me like a physical blow.
Two million dollars.
I could barely afford last month’s medication, and my next paycheck was weeks away.
“I… I don’t have that kind of money,” I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
Dr. Harris reached out, a soft touch to my shoulder. “I know this is difficult, Sarah, but we need to act fast.”
My chest tightened as hopelessness clawed at me.
“Can I see her?” I asked, desperate for something—anything—I could do.
She hesitated. “Give us an hour. We’re still working on stabilizing her.”
I nodded weakly, fighting the tears threatening to spill.
An hour later, I entered Nora’s room. The sight of her small body—so still, so frail—sent a fresh wave of pain crashing over me. Her lips barely moved, but she managed to whisper, “Mummy.”
A strangled sob escaped me as I rushed to her side, cradling her tiny hand in mine. “I’m here, baby,” I whispered, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “I’m here.”
I wished I could transfer my strength to her, wished I could take away her pain. But all I could do was hold her.
My phone buzzed again. A string of messages from my manager lit up the screen. My stomach twisted.
I looked at my sleeping daughter, my heart breaking at the thought of leaving her. But I had no choice.
“I’ll be back tonight, baby,” I promised, pressing another kiss to her forehead before forcing myself to walk away.

By the time I returned to the office, exhaustion weighed down on me.
I barely made it through the door before my manager’s voice cut through the air like a blade.
“Sarah!”
I turned to find him standing by my desk, arms crossed, a scowl twisting his face.
“Where have you been?” he barked. “You can’t just disappear without informing me! I had to handle everything on my own!”
“I’m sorry,” I said, forcing my voice to remain steady. “It was an emergency—my daughter—”
“I don’t care about excuses.” He scoffed, shaking his head. “You left me in a bind. Do you know how unprofessional that is?”
I swallowed hard.
He shoved a thick pile of documents onto my desk. “Here. You have a lot to catch up on. This should keep you busy until nightfall.”
I stared at the stack of reports, dread curling in my stomach. “But—”
“No buts!” His voice was sharp. “We have a meeting with Mr. Blackwood tomorrow, and I won’t have you slacking off.”
I clenched my jaw as he turned and walked away.
I glanced at the clock—already late afternoon.
I’d be working late again.
And I’d miss another moment with Nora.
Tears burned at the back of my eyes, but I blinked them away. I had no choice.
With a deep breath, I sat down and picked up the first report.
I had to keep going.
For Nora.
For her, I’d do whatever it took.
Turning around I saw that he was still alive. But he was also still bleeding, and I didn't know what to do. Rushing over to him and shifting back I grabbed his head in my hands. "Damon, Damon stay with me." At this point, he was totally unresponsive. I didn't know what to do. I was vaguely still aware of the fight still waiting for me. I knew it was stupid to get distracted like this while still in this fight, but I couldn't help it. But no one had come to attack me yet, which made me wonder, were they all dead? Were they plotting against me? In my rage I didn't even keep track of the number. But I knew for certain I hadn't gotten Sarah yet. Where was she? Okay, okay focus.I did a mental headcount. That was two, three, four and five together, and I just did six.All six of them. It was just left with her.Damon sputtered again. He was still resisting it, that's why he was still convulsing.Sarah was still doing this. So she was definitely still there, I need to end her. Tha
"We finally have you." She looked smug as she reveled in her victory. For all three seconds of it she must have felt like a winner. Well the story is not over yet. (An: this one almost is, lol)Finally shifting into my wolf form within my confines, the surge of energy and my rage helped me burst out. All the way out of the containment. Something no one was expecting based on the look on their faces when I grabbed one of them by the torso and tore her right in half. Landing on the ground I crushed her skull under my paw and watched as she also melted away in grey blobs. Six more to go.All of them simultaneously turned to Sarah, as though waiting for instructions. They seemed to be torn between coming to attack me or fleeing. I watched them cautiously, trying to gauge their next move.Would they go into fight or flight mode? Turns out, both apparently seemed like improbable options since they opted with going invisible again. They had nowhere to go though, hopefully. So they w
Get them out of here. Please, tell them all to leave. I told Sorayah, hoping she'd somehow be able to get all the pack members out of here and back in our territories safe and sound. What?No one should die here with me today. It's me they want. I can't let my pack get hurt any further. I won't abandon them. I'll fight till my last breath. I took a deep breath as I lay on the ground trying to get energy. I was going to fight through the pain, there was no quitting this time, consequences be damned. No pain could be worse than having to watch them all get hurt or die.I'm going to end this or die trying.I was getting ready to gather my strength for what seemed like one final shift when a voice entered my head again. My hair stood on end.Adriane. It was Damon. Damon! are you okay? You're barely moving. I'm so sorry! My body, having entered into some sort of weird and impromptu hibernation, didn't even move an inch. Except for the rise and fall of my chest that I was sure was sti
A voice entered my head. It wasn't the voice I'd been longing to hear, but a wonderful voice nonetheless. A voice that had come with hope.Sorayah's frantic voice entered my head through a mind link and I didn't even have time to wonder how she was doing that. Alpha! You need to do something! I don't know how much longer we can keep this up. We are already growing weary.Sorayah! I'm trying! I'm really trying to stand back up, but I can't. I need more time. I was lying down, almost helpless and I hated it. This isn't what I planned, this isn't how things were supposed to go down. No one else was supposed to get hurt. As I looked out at the rest of the pack, I could feel each and everyone's pain register independently in my core. I felt my pain, I felt the collective pain and all the individual aches. They were in pain, suffering under the mind cleansing brain melt, courtesy of Sorayah. They were all here, suffering, for me. At what point will all this end?At what point really
And just as I felt the pull increase, it stopped suddenly. Slowly I looked up to see wide blue eyes staring at me in shock. As quickly as it happened he pulled his hand out, thankfully spine-free. This however still led me to collapse on the ground. I was going to heal, yes, that is, if they gave me time to, but for now, I still couldn't feel my limbs properly. I felt a crack that made my body snap, my spine was realigning itself but it was excruciatingly painful and slow. All I could do was lie and watch Damon. Damon who for some reason was still just standing and staring at me. Sarah though, had apparently had enough. "I said for you to take her spine out!" I could see the blackness in his eyes trying to to return, and with all he had he fought against it. So much so that when his eyes started changing colour again I had a sickening feeling it was blood. And I was right. With a grunt he fell back to the ground, blood oozing out of his ears, eyes and mouth. He was spasming on
I had heard the words.Loud and clear.Yet they rang in my mind like I had imagined them.'Take her spine out.'A very dangerous command uttered against me. And yet I still couldn't move.I had heard those words and I was still frozen in shock.Unfortunately, Damon had also heard them, and was ever willing to oblige.I could feel his fingers and claws pushing past my flesh, tearing muscle and sinew along the way as he continued to inch closer and closer to my spine. The pain was searing and numbing at the same time.I gasped and could only let out silent screams and breathless grunts. My body was still not functioning the way it was supposed to. My motor nerves were defunct but my sensory nerves were working overtime. I could feel every ounce of pain and then some.So when he finally made contact with my spine I felt chills all over my body. From my scalp straight to my toe tips. His hand slowly wrapped itself around the girth of my spinal column, the gaping hole in my back causing
