Selene's POV

For days, everything around me looked normal and peaceful even. The walls didn’t crumble. The sky didn’t fall. I still ate. I still breathed. I even slept a few hours each night. But deep inside, I felt empty. Like a part of me had gone quiet.

I often found myself sitting by the window, staring outside without knowing why. The view never changed. Trees, guards, and servants carrying out their duties. Yet, my eyes kept searching, like they were waiting for something or maybe someone.

The memory of Victor walking away in the rain kept crawling back. His clothes soaked. His eyes hollow. His hands shaking like he was holding something delicate and didn’t know how to keep it from falling.
