Chapter 1

Donna’s POV

A ringing filled my ears, sharp and endless, drowning every other sound. My vision blurred, the room spinning as the doctor’s words scraped against my skull. Five years of bleeding, praying, begging—and nothing left inside me now. 

My laugh tore out in broken gasps, too jagged to be real. “You’re joking.” My lips quivered as I forced the words out, trembling like they could hold the world together. “Tell me you’re joking.”

“This can't be happening.” I yelled, dragging the injection out from my hands as I tried to stand up, the nurses that were behind the doctor held me tightly on the bed.

“I'm sorry, Luna Donna. The baby couldn't make it” He announced for the second time. But my mind was blurred with emotions, my face stained with tears and my chest constricted. 

“Why? Why can't this one survive? Why?” I said, my muffled gasps sounded hoarse. 

“We did everything Luna, but it seems the moon goddess doesn't want you to have a child. This last surgery had caused a lot of damage to your womb” He hesitated for a moment, twisting the cap of the pen he was holding, his gaze not staring at my face. 

He then dropped the bomb on me. When he finally said, “We had to remove your womb while trying to save your life”

I heard some tiny sounds in my ears, my pupil dilating and my breath cracking. I couldn't believe what I just heard. After five years of trying to give birth to an heir, I wouldn't be able to bear children anymore. 

“You're joking,” I finally said, laughing like a broken record. “You have to be joking” I tried to sit up but the nurse's grip tightened on my arms. 

“No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. This is all a dream” I said repeatedly, trying to convince myself that this was a nightmare I needed to wake up from.

He adjusted his stethoscope, clearing his throat he said “I am truly sorry Luna. It could have led to more complications for you in the future and we needed to stop it. It was killing you very slowly than we suspected” 

 I kicked against the bottom of the bed, trying to break free from the nurses grip on me but they didn't budge. 

“My baby was alive, I felt him. He didn't die. He was kicking when I was brought here. Oh no my baby.” I cried desperately. 

“You killed my baby Doctor. You killed my baby” my face twisted with fury. The doctor's face twisted with fury. "You were always just unfortunate with children, Luna. Don't blame me for your barrenness" 

Those words stabbed a dagger at my heart. How dare he? Mocking my inability to give my husband a child. His words sent shivers down my spine and I felt my wolf forcing me to come forth, I felt the rush of adrenaline as I freed myself from the nurses and shifted to my wolf as I lunged at the doctor. My wolf dug into one of the doctor’s eyes with its claws, bulging it out with full force. 

He screamed as he fell to the ground, shouting for help, the nurses backed away as I changed back to my human form, falling down at him. 

“I'm sorry” I said, crawling to him but he shifted like I was a disease, shaking drastically. “Please, please” my lungs burned as I moved to him. “I didn't mean it, i–” the words couldn't come out as the fluid from the injection one of the nurses put into me while I was looking away rushed into my vein making me drowsy.

I didn't know how long I slept until I felt the cold-water hitting my body, as several wolves dragged me out from the bed, tossing me like a piece of rag against the wall. I hit it with force, tearing my stitches, my moan came out rising louder. 

“You almost killed my staff, you wretched bloodsucking witch.” A voice curled with venom sounded. 

I curled into a ball, new tears streaming from my eyes. 

“Oh, Now you can't talk” she said, walking slowly to where I was laying down. 

“Was it the doctor that cursed you not to have a child? Was it the doctor that said you should be borned through your fucking mother? Was it the doctor that made you barren with miscarriages?” She shouted aggressively, kicking me with her heels. 

I shook violently using my hands to protect my eyes from her attack. “Oh goddess. You think you are still our precious little Luna that behaves like a little child” she said kicking and trashing me. 

I coughed out blood, still trying to dodge her attacks. “Please please…don't kill me” 

“You bloody child sulking demon. How dare you take my doctor's eyes” she said, then took a stop. 

“It was a mistake. I didn't know what came over me. Please, please, my child. My child. I'm sorry….. I'm sorry” I said through gritted teeth and a bloody face. 

She laughed. Her voice carrying the tension in the air higher, the people that were with her, bowed their heads. 

“From the beginning, Luna Donna. You weren't supposed to be mated to Lucian. It was a mistake, and I warned you. You didn't listen to me. Now see you, begging like a pathetic stupid, foolish wolf that you are. After killing your first babies, that didn't tell you that you were a mistake. You caused this yourself”

She said, crunching down to my level. “If you didn't insist on marrying Lucien, all this misfortunes wouldn't be happening to you” 

“What are you saying?" I coughed out blood.

She lifted a strand of hair from my face, her wicked gaze locking with mine. “I killed your babies. First, second, and this one. They all died because you refused to leave my man" 

I felt the jolt of betrayal run through my veins. She killed my babies. The revelation pressed tightly against my chest. My brain froze, my breath seized. I couldn't move, I couldn't think. 

“Bitch, it shouldn't be a surprise that the death of your children was my doing” she said sarcastically, smirking like a predator scenting her prey. 

“Hold her up” she commanded the wolves behind her as she stood up. They rushed to carry my limp body. My lips were swollen, a big dent on my forehead, my nose bleeding, the fresh blood that was opened from the stitches, running through my back. I looked dead…..but barely holding.

“Cat caught your tongue huh?” she said, holding my chin up to look at her face. “It is I, Selene, the daughter of the high council leader who killed all your children, Luna Donna” she announced like it was exciting news for her, her eyes glinting with pleasure. 

“Why?” I managed to cough out a word, though my throat was burning with fury.

“You stole my mate from me Donna” she responded. “I was supposed to marry him but you came with your stupid bond and trapped him. You flattered yourself believing that you will have him forever. I watched you kiss, make love and have his child while I burned with anger” she stopped, acting like she was a victim of my betrayal.

“You became my nightmare and I wanted

to have my revenge on you” she cursed, her manicured fingers biting to my skin.
