Her lips parted in shock, a faint gasp escaping before she could stop it.“Zara?” she breathed, her heart hammering in her chest.Kane’s dark gaze snapped toward the intruder, his voice like thunder as it echoed across the room. “And who are you to tell me what to do?” His growl reverberated, shaking even the air.Zara swallowed hard, her hands trembling at her sides. “I–I’m sorry, Alpha. I didn’t mean it that way,” she stammered, her voice small but steady enough to carry. “She’s my sister, and… she doesn’t know how to cook. I only wanted to help.”Kane’s eyes narrowed, his lips curling like he was about to unleash his wrath—when Camilla’s cold, commanding voice sliced through the silence first.“Are you from this pack?” she asked, her tone sharp, her stare unyielding.Zara hesitated for a beat, then shook her head. “No, Lady Camilla.”Camilla leaned back slightly, her lips twisting into

“K–Camilla?” Kane’s voice cracked, a sound no one in the pack had ever heard from him.She took a trembling step forward, her eyes shimmering. “Yes… It’s me, brother.”Kane staggered back as though struck. “B-but… you were dead.” His words came out hoarse, disbelieving, and for the first time, Maya saw him stripped of his usual steel. His fists, always steady, shook at his sides.“I never died, Kane,” Camilla whispered, her voice breaking with relief. She turned her head and pointed toward the healer sitting quietly among the pack members. The woman’s serene smile only confirmed the truth. “She saved me.”Kane’s chest rose and fell rapidly. “You mean… You were here? When I came today?”“Yes,” Camilla said softly. “But you didn’t notice me.”Before Kane could speak again, she moved past him. Her steps quickened until she reached Gavin’s side. He lay limp, his breathing shallow, his face pale. She dropped to her knees, gathering his head carefully onto her lap. Tears spilled down her ch

“Good evening, Alpha,” the healer greeted, hurrying to assist Kane in laying Gavin on the wooden bed.“Treat him. I want him at tonight’s festival,” Kane ordered, his voice low but leaving no room for argument.“Yes, Alpha.” She moved quickly, her hands busy crushing herbs, tossing some into the steaming water on the stove. The sharp, earthy scent filled the room. Kane’s eyes never left her, and Gavin, though too weak to move, watched every detail with a quiet intensity. When the mixture was ready, the healer helped Gavin sit up and pressed a cup to his lips. He drank, only to scowl.“Is there no sweeter drug?” he muttered. The healer shook her head nervously. “No, Alpha. Remedies for wounds like this are never sweet.”Kane said nothing, but his gaze remained fixed on her, so sharp it made her hands tremble. She eased Gavin back onto the bed.“He’ll be fine soon. His injuries aren’t serious,” she reported.Kane turned to Gavin. “How are you feeling?”“I’m good, man. Thanks,” Gavin ans
