LYRA POV

On the day I discover that Lucien Draven, the future Alpha of Shadow Lake Pack, is my fated mate, I think the Goddess has finally decided to reward me for everything I have endured.

I never imagine that, in under a year, I will stand in the middle of his Alpha Ceremony and watch him claim another woman as his mate while my heart shatters at his feet.

And I certainly don’t expect to be packless and under the radar of the ruthless Lycan King, a predator even more dangerous than my fated mate, only a few days later.

***

Almost a year ago, when I turned eighteen and connected with my wolf, I was terrified to discover that Lucien was my mate.

He was the son of our Alpha, the strongest and most admired male in Shadow Lake Pack, and the future leader. I was an Omega who had spent most of my life cleaning the packhouse.

After losing my parents to a rogue attack when I was young, I had been raised by the other Omegas. They taught me how to cook, clean, serve the higher ranks, and keep my head down. I knew my place.

So when I realized Lucien was my mate, I kept the discovery to myself. I was too afraid he would reject me.

Instead, when his wolf finally awakened and caught my scent, he cornered me in a janitor's closet and claimed me for the first time.

It should have been the happiest moment of my life.

It wasn't.

Lucien was rough. Far rougher than I'd expected my mate to be on my first time.

When I admitted that he was hurting me, he barely slowed down. After it was over, he didn't hold me or ask if I was all right. He simply told me to leave through the servants' path, wash his scent off my body, and make sure no one saw me.

I felt as though a bucket of cold water had been dropped over my head.

The second Lucien noticed it, his expression softened.

“I love you, Lyra,” he promised, cupping my cheek tenderly. “And I want you. But if you want to be with me, we need to take it slow. If we don’t handle this correctly, our relationship will be doomed before it even begins.”

His explanation sounded reasonable. He was the future Alpha, and I was an Omega. Of course the pack would object to him presenting someone like me as his Luna.

Still, I wasn’t entirely sure I should believe him.

“Lucien is our mate,” my wolf, Moonveil, reassured me. “We have to trust him.”

I love Moon. The pack has always ostracized me, so when she awakened on my eighteenth birthday, she became my first friend. Unlike other wolves, however, mine is too weak for me to shift. That only gave everyone another reason to shun me. Still, I never cared. Having her was enough.

So when she insisted I should trust our mate despite the signs I thought I’d seen, I did.

For the next week, Lucien continues to summon me whenever he wants, always somewhere private, away from unwanted eyes. Afterward, he gives me the same order: Go back to the Omega's wing and wash my scent off. Don't let anyone see you.

After seven days of this, I’d had enough.

However, when Lucien summons me to the shed behind the packhouse in the afternoon, promising he has a surprise for me, hope immediately sparks inside my chest.

Maybe he has finally decided to stop hiding me. Maybe tonight, he will prove that all my patience has been worth it.

Instead, he tears my clothes off and gets ready to use me again..

“Ah! Lucien, wait!” I cry out, hesitant and worried.

But he doesn’t let go of me.

“Quiet,” he snaps back, snaking one arm around my waist and using his other hand to bend me forward over a wooden surface.

The next second, I let out a gasp as I feel his tip press against my entrance.

“I wanna have some fun with you. Be an obedient Omega and let me,” he growls.

This time, his intrusion is so sudden and forceful that not even the amplified emotions caused by our bond can get me ready for him on time. I’m not wet enough when he pushes inside me, and it hurts. It gets even worse when he continues to thrust in and out painfully fast despite the friction.

I want to tell him to stop. That it hurts. That I’m not enjoying this. But I can’t find the words.

When it’s over, I stand trembling as he wraps a nearby rug around my body.

“You know the drill by now, don't you, my little Omega?” he sneers against my ear.

I can't answer. Tears blur my vision. This time, not even my wolf tries to make excuses for him. She’s just as shaken as I am.

A hint of anger surfaces, and I finally feel ready to tell him I will not keep hiding around corners and let our only moments together be reduced to quick fucks.

Lucien seems to notice the defiance in my eyes, and before I can speak, his expression softens.

“What's wrong, my mate? Is your Alpha too rough for your liking?” he asks.

I swallow. “I—”

Before I can finish, he chuckles. “Don't worry. I promise I won't break you. But you're my mate—you need to be able to handle me.”

The words make something inside me twist.

Yet before I can think, he leans closer and presses his lips to my forehead.

“I’ll tell you what,” he says huskily, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear. “Because you've been so good lately, I'll give you a reward in two days. Something you've been asking for,” he promised.

“That’s it, Lyra,” Moon exclaims, a flicker of hope slipping into her faint voice as she wags her tail excitedly. “In two days, mate will finally claim us!”

One last time, I shove my doubts aside and decide to trust her.

  • The Rejected Omega is the Lycan King's Obsession   Chapter 87

LYRA POVMy hand instinctively flies to the spot where I’ve just been struck, holding it in an attempt to soothe the spreading sting.“Who does she think she is?! To slap you like this when you did nothing to her!” Moon’s growl reverberates through my mind, so vicious that my stomach twists. “This can’t go on, Lyra. Teach her a lesson!”As my wolf’s rage infects me, my eyes dart to the maid. She stands there, unflinching, holding my gaze bravely. The slight trembling of her body makes me think she’s at least a little bit afraid, but that clearly doesn’t hold her back.“What? Are you angry that I stood up to you? That I said what everyone’s so afraid to say?” she spits tauntingly, taking a step closer as if daring me to react. “What are you gonna do about it? Beat me up just like you do anyone who stands in your way?”Just like that, my mind clears, and my heart sinks. So, this is what all of this is about—she wants to prove to everyone around us that I’m the enemy they should fear.Fo

LYRA POVThe next morning, I wake up with one clear goal in mind, making a conscious effort to become useful. It starts with the maids. After work, I catch a team of them swiping the floors of the entrance hall. Their movements become noticeably stiffer when they spot me, and I hesitate. For a second, I wonder if I should turn around. Then I remember the maid from yesterday. The simple gratitude in her voice. The way she had looked at me after I helped her, as if she had finally seen me as something other than a threat.Taking a deep breath, I force myself forward.“Do you need another pair of hands?” I ask with a smile. The nearest maid nearly drops the cloth she’s holding. She stares at me, clearly unsure how to respond.“You… want to help us?” she confirms.I nod. “If you don't mind.”Her eyes dart toward the others. A few exchange uncertain glances before one of them finally shrugs.“I suppose we could use the help,” she replies in the end, still uncertain. Pointing toward the ent

LYRA POVAfter finishing work, I make my way towards the cafeteria to meet Seris and Freya for dinner as usual. Though the conversation with Theron has left me feeling lighter, my thoughts drift back to everything that has happened over the past few days as soon as I’m alone.Distracted, I nearly bump into a servant carrying a large pile of freshly laundered clothes as I turn a corner. She quickly steps aside, lowering her gaze.“Sorry,” I mumble instinctively. She doesn’t reply. She just lifts her gaze, her eyes meeting mine so briefly it almost feels accidental. Yet in that second, I flinch as I see something flash across her face.Fear.As I’m stunned, she clutches the clothes tighter against her chest and hurries past me. My heart sinks, and I’m once again reminded of the recent events. After what happened with Dean, the entire castle seems to know that I’m stronger than they expected a rogue Omega to be. The rumors have spread faster than I ever could’ve imagined. And instead of

THERON POVThe moment Lyra leaves my office for lunch, the calm mask I had been wearing in front of her finally slips.I lean back in my chair, exhaling slowly as the weight of everything I've been keeping to myself settles over me again. I meant every word I told her. I will be with her through everything. But that doesn't mean I don't have my own fears.Adrian had told me about what happened at the training grounds only a few days ago. He explained how those warriors had ambushed Lyra and Seris, and Dean challenged her to a fight. My blood still boils whenever I think about it. That fool was lucky I wasn't there. Yet as angry as I was about what happened, I couldn’t ignore the surprising bottom line.Somehow, Lyra managed to defeat him.Dean isn’t among the best of our warriors, but he’s skilled and has years of experience. It should be hard even for a higher-ranking wolf with little training to overpower him. But apparently my Omega mate had beaten him with relative ease.“Why is t

LYRA POVFor the next few days, I can't stop thinking about what happened at the training grounds. The memory haunts me daily, refusing to leave my mind through everywhere I go. At breakfast. While I'm working. During training with Seris and Freya. Even when I'm lying beside Theron at night, listening to his steady breathing as he sleeps. How did I become capable of doing that?I've spent most of my life being the weakest person in every room. An Omega who learned early that survival depended on staying quiet, keeping my head down, and never giving anyone a reason to notice me.Now, I can't even recognize myself.Moonveil isn't helping either. Ever since she reawakened, everything about her has changed. She's stronger, sharper, more confident. And also more secretive. When our connection was first established, I thought I could trust her completely. It felt natural, almost effortless. Like there were no barriers between us.Yet lately, every time I ask her how she seemed to have becom

LYRA POVOnce Dean manages to catch his breath, he pushes himself back onto his feet with some difficulty. His face is red with humiliation.“You fucking bitch!” he spits, glaring at me.My stomach tightens as I realize he has no intention of acknowledging defeat.I instinctively get into position again, preparing myself for another blow. Only this time, my hands are trembling. Moonveil is still wide awake inside me, and I can sense her aura radiating an unfamiliar sense of confidence.“I can handle him,” she reassures me.Though she had kept us mostly unscathed until now, I’m not sure I fully believe her.Dean looks different now. The anger in his eyes has completely replaced the smugness he had before. His fists are clenched so tightly that his knuckles have turned white. Maybe the only reason I survived him before was because he underestimated me, but I was sure he wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. If he comes at me like this, I don’t know that Moonveil can actually help me.My
