Becca’s heart was still racing from the heated exchange moments ago.

And now, standing tall at the doorway with the authority of a thousand storms in his dark eyes, was Alpha King Eugene.

The room fell into an unnatural silence, the kind that swallowed even the sound of breathing.

The other maids and guards shrank back as if the very air had thickened with the Alpha’s fury.

It was Becca who snapped out of it first.

“Alpha, it’s nothing—” she began quickly, a rush of nervous words tumbling out as she stepped forward, trying to keep the storm from fully breaking.

But Mira wasn’t having it.

“Nothing?” Mira hissed, her cheeks flushed with righteous anger. “Becca, are you seriously going to let this pass? She called you a rejected omega and mocked you in front of everyone!”

“Mira—” Becca tried to stop her, her voice a warning note, but it was too late.

Mira turned to Eugene, her words sharp and clear, deliberately loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.

And yet, here she was — tangled in a storm she no longer had control over.Becca pressed her back against the door and exhaled deeply, closing her eyes. The distant sound of the council bell echoed across the palace grounds, loud and relentless like a warning from the heavens themselves. The sound made Becca’s stomach twist into a knot she couldn’t untangle, especially when her mind replayed the way Luna Seraphina had looked triumphant in her room earlier. Her pulse raced, her hands clammy against the fabric of her gown as she and Mira hurried through the long, winding corridors of the palace, the ancient stone walls closing in on either side. The thick scent of burning cedar from the wall sconces filled her nose as they walked, Mira visibly anxious beside her.Becca exhaled slowly. “I don’t like this,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, though she knew Mira heard her.“I don’t either,” Mira admitted, chewing on her bottom lip. “But whatever it is, we’ll face it.”Becca gave a small, dry laugh. “I seem to do a lot of ‘facing things’ lately.”They turned a corner and almost collided headfirst into a pair of broad figu

She could hear the muffled sounds of something shattering inside—a vase, maybe. The sound made her scared, but she took a deep breath, preparing herself before pushing the door open.Inside, Eugene was a storm. His towering frame moved with restless fury as he grabbed a glass off the table and threw it against the wall. His usually composed expression was twisted, his handsome face a mask of barely restrained violence.“Eugene—” Becca began cautiously, her voice soft but firm.“Don’t,” he spat, not even looking at her as he paced the room like a caged predator. “Don’t try to calm me down, Becca. Not right now.”Becca closed the door behind her, leaning against it for a moment as she watched him. His eyes were no longer their usual colour. They had begun to glow

Becca couldn’t stop thinking about how Alpha Eugene’s fury had made him seem almost otherworldly, how the raw power that radiated from him in those moments both terrified and enthralled her. The way his eyes had glowed, a dangerous warning, yet his vulnerability beneath it all. "Why did I say that?" Becca thought, turning onto her side, hugging her pillow closer. "Why did I tell him I was here for him?"The words had slipped out before she could stop them, and now they felt foolish—too vulnerable and open. She wasn’t the kind of person who revealed herself so easily, who laid her emotions bare. She groaned inwardly, burying her face in the pillow."What’s wrong with me?" Becca thought, sitting up suddenly, her legs swinging over the edge of the bed. She stood and paced the room, the silence pressing in around her. Her fingers gripped the edge of her desk as she stared out the window, watching the moon as it climbed higher in the night sky. "He’s dangerous. He’s powerful. I shoul

The pale moonlight filtering through the tall windows struck the side of his face, outlining his clenched jaw. His hands were balled into fists by his sides. His chest rose and fell heavily, controlled but strained. When he heard the door close, he turned—and the moment his eyes landed on Becca, his expression darkened further."Max," he growled, his voice sharp. It’s rare to hear someone in the Alpha’s court speak of the commonfolk with such passion. And it would certainly raise the morale across the districts.”Mira smiled, proud of Becca’s poise and clarity. “Luna Becca has always been someone who sees people beyond titles,” she added. Before Aveline could respond, a pair of elegant arms swept around her from behind. Her fingers worked quickly, but her eyes held a trace of apprehension. We’re on a tight schedule, and you didn’t even check the study for the elixir after you were supposed to.”Jack glanced at her, his eyes narrowing, but he kept his voice calm and polite. “I understand your frustration, Luna Seraphina, but I’ve been handling preparations for the Moon Festival.
