Raven's pov

He pressed his nose into my cotton underwear, spreading my legs further.

My heart skipped a beat, wolf going feral as he reached for the soaked and tore it off with a groan wrapping it around his bulging member.

Then, as he stroked himself, he leaned down and whispered heatedly in my ear, “Brace yourself, piggy, by the time I'm done with you.

..you won't even remember that dork's name.”

All the blood in my body rushed up to my cheeks as I closed my eyes and tried to recall how I ended up here like this with my adoptive brother.

Just 7 hours ago I was shopping with my best friend, Luella, the gamma's daughter.

Two of her friends-twins-had tagged along, propping themselves as my unsolicited judges. I'd step out of the changing booth and only the look on their faces made me want to burn the dresses I wore.

“What about this one?” I said striking an awkward pose in a pink floral fitted gown, Laura placed her palm over her lips; “For real?”

She nudged her twin, Lana, who was already giggling.

“Oh, Raven if only we could have just half of your confidence,”

My face was flushed, and I was back in the changing booth when I stared at the mirror inside. My stomach churned.

To say the way the fabric was sticking to my body was unflattering was a huge understatement, I looked a mess. Stomach shooting out and everything.

It hadn't looked so bad before I stepped out, but after receiving their comments, each detail stuck out, and I wanted to slap myself across the face, but even thinking it looked good for a second.

“Don't be so hard on yourself, I seriously don't know why Luella even invited them!” My wolf, Breeze, tried to console me.

She was my biggest cheerleader, it was crazy that I had only awakened her on my 16th big moon. Most people already had theirs at 12 to 14. The moment Luella found out I had awakened my wolf, she insisted I have an Awakening party.

I had resisted at first, and the Awakening party at 16 was like advertising to everyone that I was a late bloomer.

But she was bent on it and since I could hardly ever say no to my best friend, I agreed.

The party was tonight–Yah-she had gone through my wardrobe this morning and decided that I didn't have one good-looking dress for the party.

“Let's go shopping!” She'd insisted.

Now we were here and I felt ridiculous, as always.

Maybe clothes would look good on me if I were petite and soft like most girls of the Valkhor pack. But it was like my body was trying to remind me of an outsider that only got the chance to live here because of the generosity of the Alpha and Luna, who decided to adopt me when they found me abandoned at the border, crying out my lungs.

“Raven, I hope you're not offended, you know how those two are, they love to joke,” Luella said, stepping into the changing booth.

“That dress just wasn't your color, I'm sure we'll find something else,”

“I'm good,” I said trying to reach for the zipper of the dress myself, “I think I've already spent enough arranging this party maybe I should just wear something comfortable in my wardrobe,”

“By comfortable you mean your baggy hoodie and sweatpants, right?” She said in a disapproving tone, “Come on, Raven, you're cute little crush Freddy is even going to be at the party. Don't you want to impress him?”

I blushed lightly, remembering Freddy Gregor; his family was mid-rank but had strong ancestral ties to the Alpha family.

He was one of the few boys who talked to me in school and didn't chuckle indecisively when I walked past. We also sat right next to each other, and he even helped me pick up my pen once when it fell.

Breeze wasn't impressed by him and insisted we wait for our mate, but I liked him, and if I wasn't just being delusional, I think he might like me a bit too.

“All right…” I said with a defeated sigh, “Just one more dress and that's it,”

Luella grinned and tried to get me out of the dress, but she was only able to make it three inches down before the zipper got stuck.

“Don't worry, I got this!” She sounded confident in herself, but I was worried.

“Well maybe we should call somebody-”

Snap

The zipper broke and it was stuck.

“Girl I'm so sorry I thought I could…”

“Just call somebody,” I said, covering my face with my palm trying my best not to break into a sob.

This was so humiliating.

Laura and Lana are going to find out why I'm stuck here and that means the entire school finds out too.

Great, I was getting worried that they would run out of more stuff to make fun of me for.

I heard the curtains rustling behind me a few moments later, my face still buried in my palms.

“I'm so sorry about this dress,” said naturally assuming that the person behind me was an employee coming to help me out of the dress, “I promise that I'll pay for it and–”

I heard the sound of a phone camera flashing behind me, and with dread, I pulled my palms from my face and lifted my head. The reflection of a familiar male towering over me from behind with his phone held up made my heart drop.

I turned around, face bleached of any color and the tears that I had been winning against having the tables turned in their favor.

“Delete it–please!” I begged.

I knew that my luck was rotten, but I had no idea that it was bad.

Because out of all the people that had to find me in this precarious position it just had to be my biggest tormentor.

My adoptive brother.

Dante Valkhor.

Raven's POV I spent the rest of Saturday in my room with the door locked. My phone kept buzzing with texts and calls but I ignored all of them. I didn't want to talk to anyone about what happened at the diner. Instead, I pulled out an old notebook from my desk drawer and opened it to the first blank page. I stared at it for a long time before finally writing the date at the top. "What are you doing?" Breeze asked. "Writing things down," I said. "Everything that's happened, I need to get it out of my head." "That's a good idea," Breeze said. " I started writing. At first, the words came slowly but then they poured out faster than I could keep up with. I wrote about Dante and how he used me, Luella, and her fake friendship, the baby growing inside me, and how scared I was. I wrote about the morning sickness that hit me every day around ten, how my jeans were getting tighter and soon I wouldn't be able to hide the bump anymore, and the weird cravings I got at night for pickles an

Raven's POV Saturday morning, I woke up with the crystal box in my hand. I had barely slept all night thinking about what I was going to say to Dante. "Today is the day," Breeze said. "We're finally going to make him face what he did." "Yeah," I said, getting out of bed. I got dressed in jeans and a hoodie, then tucked the crystal box into my pocket. It felt heavy, like it was weighing me down but I knew that was just in my head. Downstairs, Alpha Marcus and Luna Vera were having breakfast. They looked up when I walked in. "Good morning, Raven," Luna Vera said. "You're up early." "I need to talk to Dante," I said. "Is he home?" Alpha Marcus frowned. "He left about an hour ago, said he was meeting Luella for breakfast." Of course, he would be with her. "Do you know where they went?" I asked. "The diner downtown, I think," Luna Vera said. "Is everything okay?" "It will be," I said, and left before they could ask more questions. I walked to the diner, although it was a twen

Raven's POV The package arrived on Friday afternoon while I was sitting on my porch doing homework. The delivery guy handed me a small box, and I signed for it with shaking hands. "Is that it?" Breeze asked excitedly. "Yeah," I whispered. “This is it.” I texted Alaric as I promised, and he showed up fifteen minutes later looking as nervous as I felt. "You ready?" he asked, sitting down next to me. "I don't know," I said, staring at the box. "What if it doesn't glow?" "Then we'll figure something else out," he said. "But I think it will." I took a deep breath and opened the box. Inside was a small crystal wrapped in velvet cloth, it was about the size of a golf ball and completely clear. The instructions said to hold it in both hands and concentrate on the baby. "Here goes nothing," I said unwrapping the crystal. The moment I touched it, I felt a warm tingle spread through my fingers, and a sudden rush of warmth filled my chest like a quiet promise. Then I closed my eyes and

Raven's POV I woke up Thursday morning feeling like I had been hit by a truck. My whole body ached and my head was pounding. I tried to sit up but the room started spinning. "Maybe we should stay home today," Breeze said worriedly. "I can't," I said forcing myself out of bed. "I have two tutoring sessions after school and I need to finish that custom order for Mrs Chen" "You're going to make yourself sick," Breeze said. "I'm already sick," I said, "but I don't have time to rest. The crystal arrives tomorrow and I need to keep working until then." I got dressed slowly because every movement hurt. When I looked in the mirror I barely recognized myself with dark circles under my eyes, pale skin, and hair that looked like a bird's nest. Downstairs Luna Vera was making breakfast and she took one look at me and frowned. "Raven, are you feeling alright?" she asked. "I'm fine," I said grabbing an apple. "You don't look fine," she said. "Maybe you should stay home today." "I have s

Raven's POV Saturday morning I woke up early and pulled out my laptop. I had been researching the crystal test for weeks, but today I needed to know everything about it. How it worked, where to get it, and most importantly, how much it would cost. I found a website that explained the whole process. The crystal was known as an Alpha Stone, and it had been used for centuries to determine whether a baby carried the Alpha bloodline. When a pregnant woman held the stone, it would glow bright gold if the baby had Alpha blood. If it didn't glow, then the baby was from a regular wolf or human. "This is perfect," Breeze said. "Once we have this, nobody can deny that the baby is Dante's." "If we can afford it," I said, scrolling down to the price section. My heart sank when I saw the number. Three thousand dollars, for a small crystal that would prove my baby's paternity. I checked my savings account on my phone. I had exactly eight hundred and twenty-three dollars saved up, which meant

Raven's POV By Wednesday morning, everyone was talking about me again. I heard the whispers the moment I walked into school. "Did you hear about Raven?" "I heard she's been sleeping around." "That's why she doesn't know who the father is." I kept my head down and went to my locker. When I opened it, a note fell out. I picked it up and read it. "Slut. We all know what you did, leave before we make you leave." My hands shook while Breeze growled inside me. "Who wrote this?" she demanded. "Could be anyone," I said, crumpling the note and shoving it in my pocket. In the first period, I sat in my usual seat, but I couldn't focus. My mind kept circling the note and who might have written such cruel words. At lunch, I went to the library again, but even there I wasn’t safe. A group of girls whispered at a nearby table. "She's so pathetic," one said. “Acting like she's some victim when she's just a homewrecker." "Homewrecker?" I thought. "They're making things up," Breeze sai
