I watched him frown at her, and I almost snorted. She didn't ask to be brought into this world. I looked down at her. She looked really sad, like she understood what that single look meant. That, she just got rejected by her own father. I ran a hand through her hair, and she looked up at me. I smiled at her, hoping that would help. She snuggled further into my laps and closed her eyes. Nicholas was speaking to the doctor, and I tuned out the conversation. I was aware when the driver started the car again. My mind wandered to Luciana again. For someone who said, there's something called protection. He fucked up big time. What's he going to do to her? Was he even going to tell the world about her? Will he keep her? I just had a sense of responsibility towards her. Like I needed to protect her. Even though I had more worries than that. I stared at him. I didn't know if it's in my place to ask him what his plans were. He looked up from his phone and cocked an eyebrow at me. I shook my head in response and turned my gaze to the window. I couldn't get the words out. I leaned back against the headrest and closed my eyes. I knew something the whole world didn't know about him. He was a dad. I couldn't explain the weird feeling in my stomach. I didn't know what that meant to me. Like, it was even supposed to mean anything. I heard light snores, and I looked down at her. I smiled at her. She looked so beautiful. She had her dad's good genes. She managed to fall asleep amidst this chaos. I looked up and saw we were back at his place. The driver pulled up in front of the mansion, and he got down. I followed after adjusting her in my arms. He unlocked the door with his fingerprint. I allowed myself to take in everything as we walked further into the house. It looked like something out of the movies. It screamed money. I felt so out of place. Like I didn't belong. I followed him into the kitchen and settled on the counterstool. "Do you want anything?" He asked as he rummaged through his fridge. "Water," I replied. He slid me a bottle of water, and I mumbled a thanks. I balanced her on my laps and held her with a hand. I managed to uncork the bottle with another. "The meeting is in a few minutes," he paused. I nodded in response. "Keep her quiet. I will take care of the meeting." "Who's going to take notes?" I asked. "I can manage." What the hell? So why did I need to come here in the first place when he could MANAGE? I should be in bed by now. Finishing up a series or in dreamland. "You would be paid for your troubles," he murmured. That sounded good. "Where can I take her?" He raised an eyebrow at my question. I sighed. "This position isn't that comfortable for her. Can you direct me to one of your guest rooms?" "Oh! Go left. You will find a hallway. You can take one of the two rooms." I thanked him before walking in the direction. I took the first room that I spotted. My jaw dropped as I stared around the room. The room was almost the size of my whole apartment. And it's just the guest room. Damn this rich people. I gently placed her on the bed. Her mom couldn't even pack some clothes for her. All she had on was a green onesie and baby shoes. We didn't even know if she had any allergies. The least she could have done was put a list of her likes and dislikes in the basket. I put her hair away from her face while sitting down next to her. I covered my mouth as I let out a yawn. I was tired. I laid down while keeping my eyes on her. She's still fast asleep. My eyes felt heavy. Just five minutes. __^__^__^__^__^__^__^__^__^__^__^__^__^__^__^ I groaned loudly as light shone brightly on my face. Did I forget to close my window again? I opened my eyes slowly while trying to adjust to the light. I sat upright when I realized the bed was way too comfortable to be mine. I looked around the room. There's no way I became a heiress overnight. A small sound got my attention, and I looked at the other side of the bed. Luciana. The event of last night flooded my thoughts. I checked the time on my phone and realized it's twenty minutes to eight. I had missed messages and calls from Maya. I quickly typed her message that I was fine. I got out of bed and found the kitchen easily. He looked up, and I was stunned. He looked so good in the morning. It's the first time I saw him in anything other than a three-piece suit. He's dressed in casuals - a sweatshirt and a pair of joggers. I brushed my hair with my hands, trying to look presentable. "Good morning, boss." He gestured for me to take a seat beside him, and I took the one farthest to him. For one, I hadn't brushed my teeth nor taken a shower. He stared at me, and I fiddled with my fingers under the table. "I am sorry for waking up late. I have to get back home to change and then head to work." He shook his head. "It’s no problem. You deserve it after yesterday." I breathed a sigh of relief. He didn't even look like he was ready to go to work. Or maybe this's his morning routine. "Actually, I have an offer for you," he said slowly. An offer? For me. What could it possibly be?ASHLEY. "Come here, Lucy!" I shouted for the millionth time. "You need to eat your dinner."She giggled over over her shoulder before crawling away.I could easily pick her up, but I liked to let her think she's in charge. She stopped abruptly before turning around. She tried walking back towards me. Falled over a few times.Smiled like it's nothing.I picked her up gently when she got to my front. I grinned at her. "Who is an obedient girl?"She gave me a full-blown smile. I pressed a light kiss to her cheeks before carrying her to the kitchen. I already prepared her mashed bananas for dinner. Kat already went home sometimes ago. She wasn't feeling too well again...She's getting old.I set her down on her high chair and placed the bowl on the table. She grabbed the spoon and tried feeding herself. She's getting better at that. I settled on one of the dining chairs and watched her.I haven't seen my boss... her dad in weeks. He was in Barcelona securing a deal according to t
NICHOLAS. My eyes fluttered open as my phone rang from somewhere in the room.I looked down at myself before scanning the unfamiliar room. The event of yesterday came crashing down on me.Yet, the other side of the bed was empty. I was used to being the one leaving first.Last night was amazing. The perfect escape. And, I was back to reality again.I worked on putting my clothes on quickly.I found my phone just on the center table.6 am.I sent a quick text to my driver before checking mg notifications. Missed calls and messages from Chris. I looked around the room again.I found a small note on the nightstand. It read : Amazing night, Nicholas Bianchi. You are just as rumored. So she did know who I was.I shook my head before walking out of the room. The hallway was dark and quiet.Good for me.I located the private entrance from yesterday easily. I found my driver easily in the driveaway."Good morning, sir," he greeted while holding the door for me.I nodded before
NICHOLAS. We entered the club through the private entrance. Perks of being a VIP.The loud music hit me as we walked."I booked us a VIP room with all the experience," Chris smirked.I rubbed my neck as we walked through an endless hallway."You don't look ecstatic," he said as we stopped in front of the door."Everything could go south when we go back," I started. "Dad could find out."He leaned against the door and nodded."I will go see the lady before we head back," he replied. "Really?" I asked in shock. He smirked. "Girls have always liked my face better.""Do I even want to argue on that one?""Because you know the truth."He was bluffing."Thanks mate."He sighed. "Thank me after she agrees.""She’s a hard nut to crack."He snorted. "I have cracked worse."We did a bro handshake before he pushed the door open. The room pulsed with energy.Bass thundered through the walls hard enough to rattle my chest while neon lights flashed across the dark space in waves of red, blue, an
NICHOLAS. I shook hands with the investor. "Thank you for your time." "Looking forward to working with you, Mr. Bianchi," the man replied. I retracted my hand and gave a firm nod. "You wouldn't regret it." He nodded back before walking out of the boardroom with his associates. After days of postponing the meeting, it had to be today or never. "Is the jet ready for tomorrow's flight?" I asked my assistant. "Yes, sir." "Good! 9 am sharp," I paused. "You can take the rest of the day off." It wasn't like there's much to do around our branch here anyway. "Thank you, sir," he rushed out before walking out. We were still in Barcelona. I couldn't leave without making the girl's mother accept my deal. At the moment, I was sure she wasn't bluffing. I sent her a huge sum of money. One enough to make her rethink her decision. Surprisingly, she donated the money, which she obviously knew it's from me to charity the next day. How did I know that? She posted it on her socials,
After spending three hours at the beauty shop, we headed to the mall beside it.My little sister had always been pretty. But now...She was breathtaking.I smirked. "We’re really serious about getting you that boyfriend."She blushed hard as I pushed open the door to a clothing store."Let’s do the fastest shopping of our lives," I whispered. She sighed. "I understand."That hurt more than I expected."I’m sorry," I muttered. Her eyes narrowed at me. "It’s not your fault, A."I didn’t respond.Because it felt like it was.A bubbly attendant approached us, and I quickly explained what we needed. She led us to the fitting area, leaving us to wait."This is just the tip of the iceberg, L," I said quietly. "I’ll get you out of there… soon.""I know you will."I reached out and gently touched her braids. She winced."My head is on fire," she groaned.I laughed softly. "You’re the one who wanted braids.""I didn’t know it came with suffering."The attendant returned with a pile of clothes.
ASHLEY.She had already taken her sauna bath before coming to get me. Don’t ask me how it took an hour.We were given pink robes and led to the hair station.Lily sat stiffly in the chair, her face blank as the stylist stood behind her.The stylist tapped her shoulder. She flinched.I understood immediately.Lily looked at me, fear clear in her eyes.I gave her a reassuring smile."She isn’t here. You’re safe."The stylist frowned slightly, confused."I just need to wash your hair first. When last did you use shampoo?"Lily’s eyes flickered to mine. Those were things Melissa never let her have. Her hair was dry. Tangled. Neglected."For a very long time," I answered quietly. The stylist raised a brow but said nothing, guiding Lily to the sink.I followed and sat close, holding her hand the entire time. The moment the water touched her scalp, Lily let out a soft moan.Relief.My chest tightened.Something so simple… something so basic… felt like luxury to her.And it hurt.Because thi
