LOGINNICHOLAS
I glanced at Ashley as she managed to get that baby to shut up. I could feel my driver staring at us through the rearview mirror. He knew better than to say anything. I remember nothing of the night that baby's mother was talking about. I would never sleep with a girl without protection. I was definitely not the father, even though she had most of my features. Looks could be deceiving. I wasn’t her father. I couldn't wait to get to the hospital and get the test over with. And to return her back to whoever her mother was. The driver pulled up in the car park of the hospital. Ashley was about to get down, but I held her hand back. She froze, and her eyes looked down where our hands touched. I cleared my throat. I retracted my hand. "He would send someone to come get us." She nodded in understanding. The paparazzi could be lurking in the shadow. The last thing I needed was a baby scandal. One I had no relationship with. Someone knocked on the door. "Unlock the doors," I told the driver. He did as instructed. My personal doctor entered the front seat. He was a few years older than me, but we were cool. His eyes scanned every person in the car before meeting mine. "Hey Nick," he finally said. "Hey. I need to conduct a DNA test. Her mother thinks she is mine." His eyes narrowed on Ashley, and she shook her head quickly. "I am not the mother." Her voice raising to an higher octave. He looked more confused after her answer. "Before you ask, I don't know who the mother is. She just dropped her off in front of my gate," I explained. "Can we just get the test over with?" "I just need a strand of your hair." He gave me a small nylon. He handed one to Ashley, too. "Okay baby, I will be needing one strand of your hair," Ashley cooed. The girl smiled at her. She's beautiful. She gently plucked one strand and put it in the nylon. She then kissed her cheek. I would have thought she was her mother if I didn't know better. I plucked one from my hair, too. We handed both nylons to him. "How long would it take?" I asked. He checked his wristwatch before replying. "Few hours. You can leave, I will email you the result." "What if I want to wait to get it? I want to be done with it once and for all." He nodded in understanding. "There’s a small coffee shop after the hospital. You can get something there. Staying here would raise suspicions." "Thanks, man," I said. He got down from the car, and the driver didn't need to be told twice. "Do you want anything?" I asked Ashley as he pulled up in front of the shop. "Coffee. Can you get Luciana any other drink and snacks? We don't know when her mom dropped her off." My eyes flickered to the kid before returning to Ashley. I nodded and stepped out from the car. The bell dinged open as I entered the shop. It's the cozy vibes to it. I adjusted my sunglass as I walked to the cashier. She gasped - my sunglasses doing nothing to hide my identity. And she had the familiar pink tint in cheeks that I was used to. Ashley doesn't blush around me. The best she had looked really embarrassed was today at the restaurant. I didn't know why I thought of it at that moment. I looked at the menu on the wall just behind the girl. They had pastries, but I wasn't sure what an one year old should have. I told the girl my order while noting the time. I still had the meeting in a few hours. I was tired. This was so surprising. Unplanned. In the back of my head, I could hear unspoken questions. 'What if she's mine?' 'What I would do if she was mine?' I didn't want to believe I could be so stupid to make such a mistake. Even in my drunk state. "You can go pick up your order from the other side." Her voice snapped me out of my trance. I handed my card as she purred at me. Either there was something wrong with my eyes, or her shirt got tighter. She was practically flashing me her asset. If it were other non-crazy nights, I would have definitely taken up her offer. Didn't mean my eyes couldn't appreciate the beauty in front of me. "Thank you..." I trailed off trying to read her name on her tag. "Lisa." She rushed out. I allowed myself to smirk and lean closer. Just enough to make her breath hitch. "I would definitely be coming back here. Hopefully, you will be the same person here." Her cheeks flushed, and I straightened up. I winked at her before strolling off to the other side. This was who I was - not a dad. I collected my order and headed out. I entered the car. The dread of what's to come clawed back at him. I took my coffee and handed the bag to Ashley. She turned to the child and beamed. The smile was beautiful. It's genuine. She whispered something into her ear before reaching into the paper bag. She pulled out the strawberry drink I got her. Before putting her in a sitting position on her lap. She put the straw in the kid's mouth, and she sucked like her life depended on it. I almost felt bad before remembering her mother's cheap tricks. What kind of a mother was that? She could have let us talk before dropping her child off. She knew the DNA test would expose her lies. And I could have sued her. I wanted to get the result before contacting my personal investigator involved. I busied myself to attending to mails on my laptop while waiting for my doctor to call back. I tuned out of Ashley's baby voice and the kid's babbling sounds. I almost jumped out of my seat in excitement when his text came in. It read: It's ready. I nodded at the driver through the rearview mirror, and he understood. He started the small drive back to the hospital. I rubbed my knuckles while anticipating what's to come. She couldn't be my child. I texted him that I was in the car park. The child stopped making sounds as if she realized this moment was important. The tension could be cut through with a knife. He took the shotgun again and handed me the envelope. I told the driver to excuse us, and he got down from the car. "There’s no match, right?" The look on his face said otherwise. "Unfortunately, it matched. The mother was telling the truth." My eyes widened. What the actual fuck? "Dada," the most angelic voice I ever heard said. I turned to the child who was looking at me with expectant eyes. I frowned at her instead. I was no father. No dad. And I was going to deny it for as long as it takes.ASHLEY. "Come here, Lucy!" I shouted for the millionth time. "You need to eat your dinner."She giggled over over her shoulder before crawling away.I could easily pick her up, but I liked to let her think she's in charge. She stopped abruptly before turning around. She tried walking back towards me. Falled over a few times.Smiled like it's nothing.I picked her up gently when she got to my front. I grinned at her. "Who is an obedient girl?"She gave me a full-blown smile. I pressed a light kiss to her cheeks before carrying her to the kitchen. I already prepared her mashed bananas for dinner. Kat already went home sometimes ago. She wasn't feeling too well again...She's getting old.I set her down on her high chair and placed the bowl on the table. She grabbed the spoon and tried feeding herself. She's getting better at that. I settled on one of the dining chairs and watched her.I haven't seen my boss... her dad in weeks. He was in Barcelona securing a deal according to t
NICHOLAS. My eyes fluttered open as my phone rang from somewhere in the room.I looked down at myself before scanning the unfamiliar room. The event of yesterday came crashing down on me.Yet, the other side of the bed was empty. I was used to being the one leaving first.Last night was amazing. The perfect escape. And, I was back to reality again.I worked on putting my clothes on quickly.I found my phone just on the center table.6 am.I sent a quick text to my driver before checking mg notifications. Missed calls and messages from Chris. I looked around the room again.I found a small note on the nightstand. It read : Amazing night, Nicholas Bianchi. You are just as rumored. So she did know who I was.I shook my head before walking out of the room. The hallway was dark and quiet.Good for me.I located the private entrance from yesterday easily. I found my driver easily in the driveaway."Good morning, sir," he greeted while holding the door for me.I nodded before
NICHOLAS. We entered the club through the private entrance. Perks of being a VIP.The loud music hit me as we walked."I booked us a VIP room with all the experience," Chris smirked.I rubbed my neck as we walked through an endless hallway."You don't look ecstatic," he said as we stopped in front of the door."Everything could go south when we go back," I started. "Dad could find out."He leaned against the door and nodded."I will go see the lady before we head back," he replied. "Really?" I asked in shock. He smirked. "Girls have always liked my face better.""Do I even want to argue on that one?""Because you know the truth."He was bluffing."Thanks mate."He sighed. "Thank me after she agrees.""She’s a hard nut to crack."He snorted. "I have cracked worse."We did a bro handshake before he pushed the door open. The room pulsed with energy.Bass thundered through the walls hard enough to rattle my chest while neon lights flashed across the dark space in waves of red, blue, an
NICHOLAS. I shook hands with the investor. "Thank you for your time." "Looking forward to working with you, Mr. Bianchi," the man replied. I retracted my hand and gave a firm nod. "You wouldn't regret it." He nodded back before walking out of the boardroom with his associates. After days of postponing the meeting, it had to be today or never. "Is the jet ready for tomorrow's flight?" I asked my assistant. "Yes, sir." "Good! 9 am sharp," I paused. "You can take the rest of the day off." It wasn't like there's much to do around our branch here anyway. "Thank you, sir," he rushed out before walking out. We were still in Barcelona. I couldn't leave without making the girl's mother accept my deal. At the moment, I was sure she wasn't bluffing. I sent her a huge sum of money. One enough to make her rethink her decision. Surprisingly, she donated the money, which she obviously knew it's from me to charity the next day. How did I know that? She posted it on her socials,
After spending three hours at the beauty shop, we headed to the mall beside it.My little sister had always been pretty. But now...She was breathtaking.I smirked. "We’re really serious about getting you that boyfriend."She blushed hard as I pushed open the door to a clothing store."Let’s do the fastest shopping of our lives," I whispered. She sighed. "I understand."That hurt more than I expected."I’m sorry," I muttered. Her eyes narrowed at me. "It’s not your fault, A."I didn’t respond.Because it felt like it was.A bubbly attendant approached us, and I quickly explained what we needed. She led us to the fitting area, leaving us to wait."This is just the tip of the iceberg, L," I said quietly. "I’ll get you out of there… soon.""I know you will."I reached out and gently touched her braids. She winced."My head is on fire," she groaned.I laughed softly. "You’re the one who wanted braids.""I didn’t know it came with suffering."The attendant returned with a pile of clothes.
ASHLEY.She had already taken her sauna bath before coming to get me. Don’t ask me how it took an hour.We were given pink robes and led to the hair station.Lily sat stiffly in the chair, her face blank as the stylist stood behind her.The stylist tapped her shoulder. She flinched.I understood immediately.Lily looked at me, fear clear in her eyes.I gave her a reassuring smile."She isn’t here. You’re safe."The stylist frowned slightly, confused."I just need to wash your hair first. When last did you use shampoo?"Lily’s eyes flickered to mine. Those were things Melissa never let her have. Her hair was dry. Tangled. Neglected."For a very long time," I answered quietly. The stylist raised a brow but said nothing, guiding Lily to the sink.I followed and sat close, holding her hand the entire time. The moment the water touched her scalp, Lily let out a soft moan.Relief.My chest tightened.Something so simple… something so basic… felt like luxury to her.And it hurt.Because thi
