Maya's pov

"Move it." The guard holding my left arm growled, giving me a rough shove towards the revolving door, making me look away from the arrogant man.

I planted my feet hard against the ground, refusing to be thrown out. "I didn't do anything wrong. Let go of me."

The guard grunted in frustration, twisting my arm behind my back with far too much force. A sharp, searing pain tore through my shoulder, making a small gasp escape my lips.

"Hey!"

Elena's pov I stared at the disaster I had created in the cottage with a frown. Papers scattered across the floor, split coffee on the table and my laptop was poorly balanced on the arm of the chair. I had been so consumed with my search for my flashdrive that at the end of the day I hadn't even realized the mess I was creating. My hands shook as I ran them through my hair, my chest rising and falling unevenly. The sound of an approaching car engine cut through my panic, but that only made me even more on edge. "No, no, no," I muttered frantically, dropping to my knees. I began shoving stacks of loose papers into messy piles beneath the coffee table, trying desperately to conceal the evidence of my frantic search before they opened the door.I was mid-motion, clutching a handful of stained blueprints, when the handle of the front door clicked and swung open.Kai walked in first, the second his green eyes met mine, he dropped his small backpack onto the rug and ran straight into my

"Hey!"The man that had been leaning against the pillar appeared beside us at that moment, the smirk he had on his face was gone now. The arrogant man narrowed his eyes at the sight, some emotion I couldn't quite place flashed through his eyes as he stared at the guard's hand clamped tightly around my wrist. He tossed his paper coffee cup into a nearby trash bin, the cup landing with a soft thud. "That's enough," The man said, his deep, smooth voice cutting through the quiet lobby. The two guards stopped, raising their heads to stare at who had

Maya's pov. I slammed my car door shut, the loud bang echoing across the quiet underground parking lot of the Silvermoon headquarters. I checked my watch and I let out a low groan. I was supposed to be at my favorite restaurant right now, enjoying a rare afternoon off that I had spent weeks planning. All of that was ruined when Elena called me a few minutes ago, explaining that she was stuck in an emergency meeting with a few partners and couldn't leave, but needed me to pick Kai up.I adjusted my dress, smoothed down my hair, and walked toward the glass entrance with a single thought in mind: ‘Get the kid, get out, and continue your day off.’That was the plan. The elevator doors slid open to reveal the main lobby, and I stepped out onto the polished floors. The building was massive, making me feel almost suffocated under its high ceilings. Straightening my posture, I held my head high as I approached the massive black marble reception desk.Behind the counter sat a woman with an i

Marcus stood at the hospital entrance, watching the glass doors swing open.He didn't move forward or take a step forward; he had learned that patience was what this would take. Elena stepped out of the hospital first, holding Kai's small hand in hers. The moment she straightened, her eyes landed on Marcus almost immediately, and the sheer caution in her eyes made Marcus flinch slightly. But Kai had already seen him too. The boy pulled his hand away from his mother and walked straight toward the tall Alpha."Kai!" Elena yelled, rushing after him.Kai stopped directly in front of Marcus, looking up at him with unreadable green eyes."What are you doing here?" Elena said, sounding slightly breathless as she stopped beside Marcus.Marcus didn't answer her immediately. He carefully reached into his car and pulled out a beautiful bouquet of fresh white roses."These are for you," he said softly, offering them to her.Elena stared at the flowers with narrowed eyes, as though they were someth

Kai stared up at his mother with a thoughtful expression on his face. "Why do I like mister Marcus?" He repeated. "Well, because he looks like the older me and he seems to remember things about you from when you weren't pregnant with me."Elena tilted her head at his response, "What do you mean by that, baby?""It means I hardly know anything about you. Everyone acts like something never happened before you got pregnant with me." Kai paused and stared down at his hand. "I don't like that."Before Elena could even start to comprehend or think of an answer, a light knock sounded at the door. She took a deep breath, then said, "It's open."The door was pushed open slowly, and Dominic stepped into the room. He had a neat brown sweater on, carrying a colorful gift bag in one hand and a soft dinosaur plushie in the other. "Elena, Kai, good morning." Dominic greeted with a warm smile as he stepped into the room. "How's our little boy doing today?"Kai's face lit up slightly, "Mr. Johnson."

Author's point of view. Marcus remained frozen beside the hospital bed, his plan resting beneath the tiny hands of his son. Kai's innocent words hung in the air, making Marcus feel horrible.'I can't believe he's defending her, Marcus thought, a sharp ache expanding in his chest. 'After everything that just happened to him, he's still trying to protect his mother.'Marcus looked down at the apple, bruised boy sitting under the thin white hospital sheets. Looking at Kai, made it seem like he was staring into some kind of mirror. He had rushed into the room ready to burn the world down, casting blame on the woman who had literally brought their son to life. Where was he when all that happened? He swallowed the bigger lump in his throat and wrapped his own hand around Kai's. "I'm sorry, Kai," Marcus said, his deep voice sounding unusually soft. "I shouldn't have yelled at your mom. I was just... I was really scared when I heard you were hurt."Kai looked at him closely then gave him
