I did not react and met Paul’s gaze flatly when my mother and Ashley appeared shortly after, arms intertwined. I saw them, and a pang of hurt settled down in my chest. “Mia, you come.” Ashley left my mother's side and walked to me with a bright smile. “Thank god. You are fine. You know how worried we were when we learned you fainted.” A sharp, mocking laugh escaped my lips before I even realised it. “What did you just say? Worried for me? Was that some kind of joke? Because if I remember, you all left me behind to feed yourselves while I fainted from starvation in my bed.” My eyes landed on her sharply before moving to my mother and brother, who couldn’t handle the accusation and instantly lost their composure. “Mia! Stop being dramatic. It’s you who don’t want to apologise.” Paul argued. “So, leaving me to die is also coming into punishment?” I interjected coldly. “How dare you blame your family? You are the one who was arrogant enough to force us to do such strict
“Where am I?” I looked at the big white roof and then at my surroundings to realise I was in a hospital bed. My eyes widened in disbelief that the family who almost let me die in my room sent me to the hospital; it looked unbelievable, and then the door opened. “Mia Dear…” “Nancy.” I looked at my housemaid, who had worked for a decade and treated me equally to my other siblings. Or I can say, she was more generous and kind with me than my own parents, who talked about equality outside while pushing their own daughter to die like this. “How are you feeling, Dear? I am glad you finally woke up.” She sighed in relief, only to be interrupted by me instantly. “Nancy, how did I get here?” My hands clenched the blanket as I met her gaze. I knew I should stop, not ask this. But my ridiculous heart still expected to be wronged- that they were too unsympathetic to leave their own daughter. “Dear, it was me.” She answered, and I fell silent. “What about my family?” I mut
I stared at the door, and a complicated emotion flashed through my sight before I concealed it immediately and stood straight before giving a response in the exact tone, “Mom, I can die here, but never apologise to your so-called angel daughter! Remember that!” “You!” “Alright then, just die there! Because I am not opening this door until you fix your mind!” Mom shouted and stomped to leave with heavy footsteps, but then I heard the same annoyed, sobbing sound. “Mom, what are you saying? Sister will apologise. Just let her go.” I chuckled. ‘What an actor!’ “Ashley, I will not listen to anything. Now, let’s go.” “But Mom, Sister didn’t eat anything for the last three days. What if something happens to her?” Ashley tried to look concerned, but all she was doing was rubbing salt in my wound by letting me hear all this. I smiled hollowly. “Stop it. She surely had food hidden in her room, or else how could she be so stubborn until now? Huh! She doesn’t need our ca
My eyes focused on Ashley, whose body flinched under my fierce expression. Within the flashes, she began sobbing harder and acted pitifully, defending her actions. “Sister! How could you be so cruel to me? I was just checking if it was in good condition or not for you.” “If your words were true. So, why did you not return the moment I told you to remove it?” I interjected, and her mouth pressed tightly. I knew she wanted that jewellery for a long time and wished my parents would let her have it, but I could never let it go. That necklace belonged to my late grandmother. She specifically left this jewellery in my name as per her last will. “Mia! She is your younger sister! Can’t you just give up a single piece of jewellery for her?” My mother always does this kind of trick to me. Give up, then fight with Ashley. You can always have others let your younger sister have this. Like, my choice and words don't matter. “Mom, don’t yell at Sister. She’s just upset right
“Mia, apologise to Ashley, or else don’t blame us for being harsh.” Paul slammed his fist on the dining table and shot a sharp glare. “Mia, you truly disgraced us today! Now do what your brother said. Apologise to your sister, and we forgive you.” My mother’s voice fell right after his, sharper and drier as she moved protectively beside her lovely daughter Ashley. “Mom!” Ashley cried, hugging my mother as I stood before them like the worst criminal. “What are you waiting for?” “Just do it now.” Finally, my father's stern voice broke, which had always remained tight-lipped when mistreating me; now, he easily opened his mouth for my sister, glaring at me with a firm warning. I knew this look very well, as I had invariably received it before any punishment. I looked at my so called-Biased family, who consistently supported one daughter to heaven while degrading the other to being rotten to hell without a single care in her whole life; that daughter is unfortunate
