ELSA

The blaring sound of the horn, coupled with the deafening sound of screeching tyres gave me goosebumps and I bawled my fist tightly and gnashed my teeth, awaiting death that never came.

The sound ceased and my eyes still remained tightly shut till I heard the voice of a furious man. “If you badly want to die, get a vial of poison and down it in one shot. That way, you'll be responsible for your own death!”

I opened my eyes and shot him a blank stare. He was dressed in a corporate suit and I scanned him from head to toe. His facial features were attractive and he seemed like Jason's type. Deceiving gullible ladies like myself with their innocent appearance.

I sucked my teeth loudly and walked away from the scene, leaving him befuddled as he returned to his car and zoomed off. My gaze lingered on the car as he left and I gave up on trying to get run over by a car, knowing passers-by would come to my rescue.

I kept walking aimlessly till it became dark. The number of people on the streets reduced drastically and I leaned against the pole of a street light like a mannequin. I scanned the environment and noticed a bar from a distance. I decided to stroll towards it and on getting there, the place was crowded and lively.

I walked in unnoticeably and settled on an empty seat at a corner. A waiter approached me and I stared blankly at him.

“What can I offer you ma'am?” He asked and I paused for a while before responding.

“The available alcohol with the strongest effect.” I responded and he gave me a surprised look.

“Ma'am, it's against our policy to serve highly intoxicating alcohol to customers in your situation.” He said, glancing at the bandages on my head and I shot him a glare.

“Bring anyone you can, as long as it's alcoholic.” I responded confidently, brushing my disheveled hair backwards.

He left and returned with a bottle of alcoholic wine and I grabbed the bottle from him the moment he opened it, giving him no time to pour it in a glass. I drank directly from the bottle, ignoring the terrible burn I was feeling in my chest.

“Get me 2 more,” I ordered after consuming half of it and he left to get 2 more bottles.

I gulped down the alcohol heavily, drowning myself in its pool as I felt it could wash away the pain and sorrow. After gulping the content of two bottles, I had just one left.

I paused for a while and glanced at everyone in the room. Each figure in my sight began to seem like two and I burst into a maniacal laughter. As I grabbed the last bottle, a figure approached me from the crowd and tried to get a hold of it but I dragged it fiercely, giving him no chance to have it.

“You again? It seems you are hellbent on courting death today,” He said and I squinted my gaze, trying to have a good view of his face.

“Who— are you?” I asked with my good hand firmly wrapped around the bottle, unable to get a clear view of his face.

“Do you have the money to pay for what you're consuming?” He asked.

“Yes, I have money. Not— everyone is broke— like you!” I fired at him, struggling to get a hold of the bottle.

He called out to the waiter and I could see him giving the latter money. He pulled the bottle off my hand afterwards and held me up from the chair. He lifted me on his shoulders and I struggled to wiggle out of his grip, hitting his back continuously but to no avail.

He made me lie on the backseat of his car and I drifted off to slumberland the moment the car got in motion.

**************

Rays of light streamed into my eyes in a parallel beam as I woke up with a hazy vision. I sat with my head low, trying to adjust to the room's brightness. When my eyes finally flickered open, I gazed around in utmost confusion as I wondered where I was.

I panicked immediately and got off the bed. I was putting on a white bathrobe which even made me more confused. I stepped in a big pair of flats I saw by the bedside and attempted to walk out of the room, only to halt in my tracks the moment I heard a masculine voice from behind. “You're awake. Where are you heading to?”

I turned around to meet his gaze and my jaw dropped at the sight before me. A white towel was wrapped around his toned waistline as water droplets rolled down his chiseled torso. Strands of his lengthy wet hair were sticking to his handsome face and it made him look like a work of art.

“Your mouth is open,” He muttered in a mocking tone and I felt like slapping myself.

‘You should control yourself Elsa!’ I warned myself inwardly before deciding to put on a tough front.

“Who are you and how did I get to your room?” I asked with a stern glare and he chuckled lightly.

‘Did I crack a joke?’ I wondered, slightly annoyed by his countenance.

“How did I get into your room and who put this robe on me?” I asked furiously, adjusting the bandage on my head that was on the verge of covering my eyelid.

“Firstly, I saved your drunk ass at the bar last night and secondly, I changed your clothes. What's the big deal? I couldn't let you lay on my bed with that stinky dress you were putting on.” He voiced out with nonchalance and I felt like stepping forth to leave a scratch on his seemingly perfect face.

“I never asked for your help. Who gave you the right to see me naked? Do you realize I'm a marri—-” I swallowed the remaining part of my statement, realizing Jason and I were no longer an item.

“You should be grateful to your stars that we crossed paths yesterday. About your nakedness, it's not so special. I mean, almost every part of your body has a bandage. Hold on a minute, are you a psycho?” He raised a brow and I was furious to the core.

‘This jerk thinks everything is a joke!’

“What gives you the right to judge me? Do you know my story? If you think I'm a Psycho, why then did you bring me home?” I asked, clenching my fists with bulging veins.

“I didn't want any other member of the public to fall victim of your foolishness. Do you know the effort and skill I had to utilize yesterday just to prevent running you over? If it was someone else, I bet you wouldn’t have lived to see the light of another day.”

My eyes widened at this revelation. “You were the owner of the car?” I asked and he shot me a disdainful glare before returning his gaze to what he was doing.

I tried to connect the dots. I didn't pay much attention to his appearance on the road and now that I was gazing keenly at him, there was a striking resemblance.

“I didn't want to see the light of another day. Were you stalking me? From the road to the bar, aren't you the psycho now?” He turned towards me with an icy cold glare that made me shudder and I took a few steps back in fright.

ELSA I wiped the endless stream of tears that rolled down my cheeks as the taxi I boarded came to a halt before the grandiose gates of the Reins’ manor. I could only refer to it as “the Reins’ manor,” because I knew getting used to calling this place my home again would take a long while.I alighted from the car with nothing but the dress I was putting on, not even a bag or a cellphone. I glanced at the bandage around my arm and I was too ashamed to step closer to the gates. I leaned against the fence and burst into tears for the hundredth time. After crying for a while, I finally stepped closer to the gate. It required a passcode and I decided to try my luck. The last passcode was my year of birth and I entered it hopefully only to be downcast when it didn't open. The guards noticed my presence and led me into the compound. I walked sluggishly behind them with my head bowed. I was too ashamed to hold my head up, considering how I left here without a chase 4 years ago. As they led m

ELSAI glanced at the clock on the wall, anxiously waiting for Jason’s return. It was past 4pm and he was yet to be back. I needed to break this good news to him because he deserved to know, even if he had been acting weird lately after letting his ex, Vivian live with us with claims of being stranded. The tales didn't add up on her arrival but I just decided to let her be for Jason's sake but it seemed like she had vowed not to let me live peacefully in my matrimonial home as she always stirred a ruckus at any given opportunity. I glanced at the test results I was holding and traced my finger across its edges nervously. In the past few days, I felt extremely dizzy, nauseous and tired. I visited the hospital and the doctor suggested a pregnancy test which turned out positive.A joyful smile sprawled on my lips as I rubbed my palm on my still flat stomach. The satisfaction of knowing I had a life growing inside of me gladdened my heart and I was overwhelmed. Today is supposed to be h
