ElSA

It was Sam the gardener. The atom of hope I had left shattered and I slumped back in bed.

“Please, take care of her and let me know if there's a new development,” The doctor said to Sam as she exited the room with her nurses.

“Please ma'am, take it easy on yourself.” He uttered in a soft and comforting tone but I felt no better.

“Where's my husband?” I asked amidst sobs, hoping to hear something positive that'd make me feel better.

He was hesitant to speak at first but finally spoke up. “He's at home ma'am,” He informed me and I bit hard on my lower lip, trying to hold back the tears till it bled profusely.

“You're hurting yourself, ma'am. Everything will be fine,” He pressed on in a comforting tone but I couldn't care about hurting myself at the moment.

“Is he aware of my situation? And what about Vivian, is she rotting behind bars?” I asked with fury etched on my face.

“I informed him about your situation, I don't know why he's yet to arrive. About ma'am Vivian, I couldn't call the cops on her, I needed to get you to safety first,” He explained.

“Call Jason and pass me the phone.” I instructed and he nodded before fishing out his phone to dial Jason's contact. The phone rang severally but he wasn't picking up. “Keep calling,” I instructed and he kept calling till he finally answered the call.

“You bastard!! Do you hate your job so much?” He fired at Sam the moment he answered the call.

I grabbed the phone from Sam who was still sitting beside me. “Jason, are you aware I was pushed off the stairs by your mistress?” I asked, wailing intensely as I waited for his response.

“Rot in hell, bitch!” He cursed from the other end and my pupils dilated. I couldn't believe Jason would ever say that to me, I smiled bitterly with the phone still on my ear and the next moment, my world came crumbling.

“Yes Jay!”

“Go harder please–”

“Right there!! This feels so good—-”

“Arghhh! You're a stallion–”

I could hear Vivian's voice as she moaned shamelessly. The phone fell on the bed and I could see the look of shock on Sam's face. Neither of us could believe what we were hearing.

“You're so… sweet!” Jason groaned in a familiar tone. That tone he always used whenever he was on the verge of climaxing. I glanced blankly at the phone screen, feeling my lungs tighten with unease. My heart was ripping into shreds in the blink of an eye.

“Fuck!” He cursed when he realized the call was still ongoing and quickly hung up.

“Sam, call me the doctor.” I said with a maniacal smile. It seemed like a dream to me but yet I was unable to wake up from the slumber.

He called the doctor and immediately she arrived, I told her I wanted to be discharged immediately.

“No ma'am, you can't be discharged now. You're not yet fit to get back on your feet.”

“I don't need your opinion, I want to leave now!” I gripped my aching chest and she sighed with a sympathetic look.

“The only way we can let you leave is if you agree to be treated from home. It's against the hospital ethics to discharge a patient who's yet to recover fully.” She informed me and I didn't argue.

A nurse came in with the documents shortly and I signed on the slot that needed my signature. They requested for my home address and I gave them Jason's house address, knowing I wouldn't be going back there.

“How much did it cost you to bring me here, Sam?” I asked after the doctor's departure.

“Quite a sum but I don't mind at all, I withdrew from my savings.” I was touched. I sniffled back the tears that threatened to roll down my cheeks and requested for his account details, opting for a refund but he blatantly refused to be paid back.

I grabbed his phone that laid on the bed and took in a deep breath before dialing that contact I had buried in my heart four years ago. All attempts to wipe it off my memory proved abortive and I just gave up on trying to forget it but now, it became handy.

The phone rang and I patiently waited for him to pick up.

“Hello, it’s Damon Rein. Who's on the line?” I could see the shock on Sam's face after he spoke up.

I cleared my throat and took a deep breath. My heart was heavy and I felt embarrassed and hesitant to speak up.

“Who do I have on the line, please?” He proceeded and I finally made up my mind to speak up, knowing he could end the call at any moment.

“Father, I'm coming back home.” As I made this utterance, he paused for a moment to register the voice but I ended the call, giving him no chance to speak further and blocked him from calling Sam to avoid disturbing the latter.

“Sam, I'll forever be grateful to you for today. Thank you for all you've done. I have to leave at this point, please return to your duties to avoid being fired.” I tried to persuade Sam as his gaze turned sullen. He was quite hesitant but he finally agreed.

“Please ma'am, I'm just curious. Damon Rein, is he your father?” He asked with a squinted gaze and I nodded.

“The helmsman of the Reins and head of the Reins’ empire?” He proceeded unbelievably and I nodded. I could see the shock on his face as he took his leave but I couldn't explain much to him.

With the aid of the nurses, I took off the dress provided by the hospital and wore the dress I came in. It had blood stains but they helped in maintaining it and I thanked them for their kindness.

As I stepped out of the room, I realized I wasn't yet as strong as I thought. My legs were wobbling but I was determined not to spend another day in the hospital premises. As I walked out through the reception, I was surprised to see Sam still seated at the lobby.

“You're still here?” I asked, adjusting the bandage around my head that almost covered my eyelid.

“Yes ma'am. I'll leave when you're gone but please, when are you coming back?” He asked, stretching forth his hand to offer support and I took it gladly because my legs were on the verge of giving out.

“Whenever you want to see me, you're welcome to my family's manor,” I replied, brushing off his question as he led me towards the road. We flagged down a taxi and I realized I had no money on me.

“Sam, where's my phone? So I can make a transfer.”

He scratched the back of his head nervously. “Ma'am the phone got broken beyond repair and I couldn't come along with it,” He informed regretfully and I sighed.

He asked the driver the total cost of the ride and made the payment in advance. I flashed him a smile of gratitude and wrapped him in a hug before settling in the backseat of the car. I waved him a final goodbye as the car zoomed off the premises.

There was a bitter smile on my face as I glanced at the cityscape. Four years ago, I was the happiest woman when I touched down this city. Jason promised me heaven on earth and it clouded my sense of reasoning. I stood against all odds, including my family just to be with him and now, he was rubbing my stupidity on my face.

ELSAThe blaring sound of the horn, coupled with the deafening sound of screeching tyres gave me goosebumps and I bawled my fist tightly and gnashed my teeth, awaiting death that never came. The sound ceased and my eyes still remained tightly shut till I heard the voice of a furious man. “If you badly want to die, get a vial of poison and down it in one shot. That way, you'll be responsible for your own death!” I opened my eyes and shot him a blank stare. He was dressed in a corporate suit and I scanned him from head to toe. His facial features were attractive and he seemed like Jason's type. Deceiving gullible ladies like myself with their innocent appearance.I sucked my teeth loudly and walked away from the scene, leaving him befuddled as he returned to his car and zoomed off. My gaze lingered on the car as he left and I gave up on trying to get run over by a car, knowing passers-by would come to my rescue. I kept walking aimlessly till it became dark. ELSA I wiped the endless stream of tears that rolled down my cheeks as the taxi I boarded came to a halt before the grandiose gates of the Reins’ manor. I could only refer to it as “the Reins’ manor,” because I knew getting used to calling this place my home again would take a long while.I alighted from the car with nothing but the dress I was putting on, not even a bag or a cellphone. I glanced at the bandage around my arm and I was too ashamed to step closer to the gates. I leaned against the fence and burst into tears for the hundredth time. After crying for a while, I finally stepped closer to the gate. It required a passcode and I decided to try my luck. The last passcode was my year of birth and I entered it hopefully only to be downcast when it didn't open. The guards noticed my presence and led me into the compound. I walked sluggishly behind them with my head bowed. I was too ashamed to hold my head up, considering how I left here without a chase 4 years ago. As they led m

ELSAI glanced at the clock on the wall, anxiously waiting for Jason’s return. It was past 4pm and he was yet to be back. I needed to break this good news to him because he deserved to know, even if he had been acting weird lately after letting his ex, Vivian live with us with claims of being stranded. The tales didn't add up on her arrival but I just decided to let her be for Jason's sake but it seemed like she had vowed not to let me live peacefully in my matrimonial home as she always stirred a ruckus at any given opportunity. I glanced at the test results I was holding and traced my finger across its edges nervously. In the past few days, I felt extremely dizzy, nauseous and tired. I visited the hospital and the doctor suggested a pregnancy test which turned out positive.A joyful smile sprawled on my lips as I rubbed my palm on my still flat stomach. The satisfaction of knowing I had a life growing inside of me gladdened my heart and I was overwhelmed. Today is supposed to be h
