MasukI could barely focus as I tried to concentrate and study.
Rose still hadn't responded to any of my messages. And quite frankly, I was really starting to get worried. I mean I had been worried before but I was reaching a whole new level. So I had told her Raymond was a bad idea, I mean why was I the villain for that? The truth is that he was. It was Raymond for goodness sake! The longest relationship he was in lasted three months. The same Raymond who once dated two girl in the same sorority at the same time! That Raymond! Why wouldn't I want to protect my sister from that? I shut my book in frustration. I really wasn't going to get any work done at this rate. Maybe a nap would help... I blinked away the thought of that. Because quite frankly, everytime I closed my eyes, my mind went back to being in Nolan's vicinity, feeling his soft lips on mine and how my stomach had turned in knots, how it felt like every single nerve ending in me had lit up. How I wanted to kiss him over and over again. I tapped my cheek with my hand. Stop it Savannah! This was Nolan we were talking about. I mean the same Nolan I had a huge crush on since I was eight. But none the less, the same Nolan who would probably always see me as Raymond's nerdy little sister. To think that kiss could have ever meant anything more to him was a joke. I huffed deciding whipping something up in the kitchen might be a better distraction. I pulled on an oversized hoodie I had stolen from Raymond two years ago and trudged downstairs to the kitchen. Before I even stepped down the last step, I heard a soft tune drift off towards me. I went over to the living room where the sound was coming from and found Trace seated on the couch. He was barefoot and wearing sweatpants and a faded band tee. His dark hair was styled in that fashionable messy way it always seemed to be in. And he had his guitar across his lap. He wasn’t playing a song. Not really. Just strumming. Soft, absentminded chords that didn't seem like they had found a place to be. His eyes were closed in concentration. For a second I just watched him from the doorway feeling like I was interrupting something. So far Trace had been with us for three days. And I had to admit, he was a step up from Nolan and Raymond. He took out the trash without being asked and threw out empty cartons of milk from the refridgerator. He didn't bring in random girls all the time. Heck, he even watered the one plant in the apartment that the guys hadn't let die. I had to admit, I was impressed. I was about to turn around and give him his privacy but just the slightest movement of my foot made the floorboard creek. Trace startled and turned towards me. His face relaxed and a smile grew when he saw me. "Oh hey land lady!" He called jumping to his feet. I couldn't help but be caught off guard by his accent. There was just something so... attractive about it. I suddenly became all too aware of my bare legs and my hair in a messy bun. "So not your landlady." I muttered as I tugged on the hoodie's sleeves and walked over to the kitchen. "Right. More like land dictator." He spoke hot on my heels. I spun around and narrowed my eyes at him. "Not that either." He gave an easy smile and lay his guitar on the kitchen island counter like it was something fragile. I grabbed a carton of milk from the refridgerator and slammed it on the counter. "You know, for someone who called me prejudiced the first day we met, you seem to do a whole lot of judging yourself." He hoisted himself up on the kitchen island and leaned over to me. "I just make observations, love." He spoke casually. "And my observation is that you, my dear are extremely high strung." I clenched my hands into fists. I take back every good thing I ever said about him. He was so annoying especially with that accent of his. "I am not high strung! And could you please get your butt off the place we put our food!" He smirked at me giving me an 'I told you so' look. I rolled my eyes. "That proves nothing. I am not high strung." He slid off the counter and looked at me. "Okay, poppet, let's prove it. Let's make a bet." I rose my brows at him in disbelief. "A bet? Yeah, I don't think so." "What's wrong? Scared?" "No." I spoke defensively. "I just don't know you. No way I'm making a bet with someone I don't know." "Sounds high strung to me." He sang. This guy was so irritating. I clenched my hands into fists and turned around huffing. Unfortunately for me, I had always been super competitive. Maybe it was growing up with an annoying twin brother. But I never backed down from a challenge. "Okay. What is it?" He seemed satisfied and folded his arms over his chest. "I want you to not be such a buzz kill for a whole month." "What's that supposed to mean?" I demanded. He took a step closer and tugged at my blonde hair. "I mean, love, for an entire month... all I want to hear from you is... yes."Maybe being around corpses while I was literally experiencing a hangover wasn't the best idea.I was hunched over the dissection table and even though I was wearing protective goggles and a face mask, the smell of formeladehyde still crept in making my eyes sting. But it was a welcome distraction.I needed my senses focused on something else and not the vomit inducing sight I had witnessed early this morning. So memorising nerves and muscles for my final it was.But even as I tried to keep my mind busy, it kept going back to the horror. Raymond kissing Rose.Rose comfortably sitting there and letting Raymond kiss her.If I could scrub my eyes with chlorine, I would. The door to the anatomy lab suddenly banged open.I turned around and saw Trace saunter in. Dark sunglasses over his eyes and a swaggee to his step.“Morning, love.”I furrowed my brows. I had so many questions starting with how the heck he knew to find me in here. But I just settled with, "you know you're not supposed to
Nolan kicked open my bedroom door. The light from the hallway spilled in for half a second before Noah shut it behind us with his foot, plunging the room back into dark and shutting out the noise from the party. He carrird me to my bed and set me down. The mattress dipped under my weight. "Do you want to change into your PJs?" He asked in a grumpy voice as he walked around the bed to slip off my shoes. I placed a hand over my forehead and raised a finger. "In a sec the room's spinning." I groaned as I turned to my side and folded my legs. I heard Nolan sigh. I looked up at him for a second. Even in the dark his large form wasn't hard to make out. He had his hands on his hips looking like a tired mother dealing with an unruly kid. "You think Nicole will be mad?" I asked. "I don't care, Sav." He ran a hand down his face. "What were you thinking? This isn't like you to get drunk at some party. Anything could have happened." I pulled myself up fighting the dizziness I was feeli
Twenty minutes later, I felt like I was on top of the world.I wasn’t even sure how to put it. But I felt free. There was another cup in my hand, something sweeter .The loud music wasn't making my ears feel like bleeding anymore and instead was actually something I wanted to sway my hips to."Isn't this better?" I heard Trace yell from opposite me.He had a refill of his drink as well and was bobbing his head to the beat. There were sweaty people all around us and I honestly didn't care that I kept getting bumped into every second."I feel great!" I yelled at Trace letting out a laugh I hadn't been expecting to get out.“Come on." Trace spoke suddenly grabbing my hand. His fingers were warm as he led me past couples grinding and people probably too drunk to remember where they were. We stopped in the living room in front of our coffee table which had fake plastic laurel wreaths and some solo cups there.I gasped as Trace hopped onto it."That cannot be safe." I spoke failing to stif
Okay, maybe I'm not exactly the captain of good ideas.Usually when Ray had parties, I decided to make myself scarce. Which usually involved camping out in the library or having a girl's day in with Rose. But it's like in a short period of time life had drastically changed my brain circuit and now I must have been having a stroke or something else that was changing how I typically behaved.Because here I was wearing the dress Trace had picked out for me in a sea of people dressed in their best Toga impressions. The bass was vibrating my bones and I really tried to get my mind off the inevitable mess that the place would be in tomorrow. My house didn’t even look like my house anymore. I had to give it to Jade, she had definitely gone all out in decorating the place in such a short period of time. There was a banner across the entrance with their sorority's name painted in gold all over it. Stacks of white solo cups instead of the typical red and a lot of white wrappes around everythin
The door clicked shut behind Nolan and for a second I just stared at it not moving.Where did I even get the courage to lie so smoothly like that from?Probably motivation from the fact that he had completely humiliated me.The words he spoke to me stung all the more as I thought about them "Well that was awkward." Trace spoke breaking the silence and reminding me he was still in the room.I turned around and let out a long breath. I shoved the garment bag into his hands and stepped back.“Thanks for covering for me." I told him. "But that will be all."Trace raised a brow at me. "So you're not going to even attempt to explain the lover's spat I just walked into?"I felt myself blush all the way to the roots of my hair."That was not a lover's spat." I snapped. "For the hundredth time, there's nothing going on between Nolan and I and you really need to stop thinking there is?"For all I know, Trace would blabber to Ray and get both Nolan and I in trouble over nothing. I mean Nolan ma
"Woof." My heart pounded in my chest as Nolan got closer. I gulped feeling my face heat up at the proximity. His face was literally inches away from mine. "Maybe we should test that theory." He spoke in a low, sultry voice. I wanted to ask Nolan what the heck he thought he was doing but my tongue suddenly felt heavier and no words were forming. He started leaning in and I felt myself panic internally. This wasn't happening. I mean, it couldn't be happening. This was Nolan for goodness sake. There's no way he would want to kiss me again. But why did I find myself leaning in instead of retreating? Why did I find myself beinh sucked in? Why did I want to kiss him too? I felt my stomach churn and felt like I was only inches away from Nolan when suddenly, he pulled away. I was left frozen, lips mid pucker and when I opened my eyes, Nolan had his hand over his mouth fighting hard to stiffle laughter. Then he burst out laughing. "Oh my gosh, baby Jones, you really want me. Don't y
