Chapter 4

A groan of pain left my lips before I could even open my eyes, my eyelids felt as if a ton of weight was placed on them. My body, well my body was as if a bulldozer had run over me. I couldn't even move my hands.

Wait...

I'm alive?

I sure can breathe. There was an earthy, musky, very soothing scent around me. I tried to open my eyes and it was a great deal of a job in itself. I opened my eyes with the utmost difficulty, my vision was all blurry as I blinked several times to adjust my sight. There was a sharp pounding headache and my head felt like a mountain that was being crushed.

I winced when I tried to move. There was so much pain in my body. I blinked at the ceiling, still drowned in the pain when last night's memories rushed through my brain and a current of fear ran down my spine.

Instead of all the pain, I abruptly set up. My body was in complete fight and flight mode as I looked around hysterically.

And then it hit me. The wolf. The big black wolf was there ready to eat me when I went unconscious. How in the world am I still alive? Or perhaps is this heaven? Maybe God assigned this magnificent room for me in heaven. Yeah, this could be probably the whole thing.

I'm dead. The black wolf ate me. And Good allotted this room to me, there's no fire around here which means I'm in heaven.

I'm officially dead.

The room was big enough to be a whole damn apartment. There was a large mahogany door in the far right corner. Probably the door for my escape. A door was present on the left side of the room, which could be a restroom and then there were double gray doors which could be anything. The whole room was a combination of grey and black giving out dark vibes. A wall-length mirror was placed in the corner along with a small round couch. There was not much furniture in this room except a big black couch and a large king-sized bed on which I sat. The sheets were of silk and were so soft with an alluring scent all over them.

So if basically, I'm dead then how come I'm still bruised and all wounded. There's supposed to be no pain in heaven.

Am I dead or did someone save me? But then how can someone save me from that giant, vicious-looking black wolf. It is impossible.

I swear I didn't hear any footsteps coming so when the door creaked open a horrified scream tore through my lips. As my throat was already parched and dry, I went into hysterical coughing fits.

The footsteps start getting closer and my head snapped up in the direction of the person and I swear for a second I forgot how to breathe or even cough. I'm definitely in heaven because the giant of a man that stood in front of me was a pure definition of a Greek God.

"Breath." A deep rich yet gruff voice reached my ears and I became tensed immediately.

By any chance is he an angel God sent for my services? If that's the case...

"Here, drink this." That deep voice again stirred something in my stomach as I took that glass of water from him. My hands were shaky as I grasped the glass with both hands and drank the water which felt so good that I can even feel it going in my belly.

He took the glass from me once I'm done drinking the whole glass.

"What's your name?" His thick voice was strong and deep with a rough accent to it.

I couldn't help but peek at him through the thick curtain of my lashes. He was tall, way too tall, probably 6'3. His body was all muscles and he looked extremely strong, that even his biceps were flexing through that dark grey shirt of his. My eyes slowly trailed up to his Adam apple and then to his sharp jaw feathered with trimmed stubble. Pink lips set in a straight line, straight nose; slightly crooked as if it was broken once upon a time and it gave him a rugged look, his high cheekbones and then her breath hitched and her heart jolted when her eyes met with that silver-grey eyes of his that were adorned with thick dark black lashes; that would put any girl to shame. His thick brows gave him an exquisitely sexy look and then his hair. His hair was a dark shade of luscious black, in a crew cut. Trim on the sides and a little long from the middle giving him an exquisite look.

He is an angel.

I’m damn sure about it.

I still gaped at my angel in pure aww when he cocked his thick brow up in askance making me realize he has asked me something. "What's your name?" He asked again and damn his voice was nice. I could hear him talk all day long, after all, he is my angel, given to me as a gift from God.

"Riley." My voice was small and raspy with all that parchedness in my throat.

"Riley." My name rolled out of his mouth like that felt extremely intimate.

“Are you hurt somewhere? I didn’t do a thorough check on you. I didn’t want to invade your privacy. Just tell me if you’re hurting somewhere?” He asked and I just blinked at him.

I should thank God for this angel who cares for me and respects me.

“N..name?” I croaked out.

His brows shot up and then he smiled at me. "My name is Damon Black." He introduced himself and I couldn't help but nod at him with a soft smile. The smile caused me to wince. I touched my lip and it was busted from the corner, the blood was clotted there.

“You’re hurt, don’t talk much.” He said immediately.

“T..this p..place?” I stammered.

"I found you in the forest." As soon as those words left his lips, I stiffened in my place.

"Y...you w...what?" My voice was all shaky as I now stared at the same hot guy with a cautious look in my eyes.

"I found you passed out in the forest. You were badly hurt and bleeding. So I brought you here at my place and tended to your wounds." He explained angrily and I couldn't help but freak out.

“Whoever the fuck has hurt you would die with my bare hands.” He grumbled lowly and I didn’t hear him properly.

Where did that wolf go? This man is not an angel? This is not heaven. I gulped.

"T..there was a w..wolf...." I tried to speak but he smoothly tilted his head in confusion and then he smiled.

"I shush him away.." His deep voice was soothing but he is a human; not an angel and that too a stranger.

I gape at him. How in the world could he shush away a big vicious wolf. Though he looks like a beast himself with those big shoulders and massive muscles but still...

Why did he even save me? Did he risk his own life for me?

I tried to move and then I noticed that my left foot was in a temporary plaster cast. My hand shot up as I checked the wound on my forehead and it was bandaged too.

I was still processing the whole scene when the guy named Damon walked to me, he was holding an ointment. "I c...can do this..." I tried to speak, “Let me, you are hurt.” He took out a small amount on his finger. He sat down on the bed with appropriate distance as he applied the ointment on my busted lip. I flinched at the touch whereas he took in a sharp breath. Even in a sitting position, I looked so small in front of him.

"Who did this to you?" He asked in a dangerous voice and my eyes widened seeing a dark look crossing his face. I gulped and kept my mouth shut.

What can I simply tell him?

I could feel his silver eyes looking all over the bruises on my face and somehow looking at me was making him angry. My bruises were making him angry.

As if sensing my scared form he stood up and moved towards the coffee table which wasn't in the room before, he brought a tray of food to me and I couldn't help but gape at the delicious-looking food that at least ten people could eat.

He placed the tray in front of me. "Eat something, Angel, so I can give you medication." He said smoothly. And I was rendered speechless at that endearment.

I looked at the food and then at him. My father never let me have good food and here this unknown extremely good-looking man was offering such delicious food that it made me want to cry.

Quietly I picked up the spoon and ate a small amount of deliciously cooked pasta. Although I wanted to eat more, my stomach was used to small amounts of food so if I ate more I might throw up.

He noticed that I'm done so he took the tray, not to forget he was staring at me all the while as I was eating. Then Mr. Damon gave me some pills.

I stared at them with suspicion.

"I'm not going to drug you, Riley. These are pain killers." There was amusement in his voice as he smiled and my cheeks tinted red in the embarrassment of him reading me like an open book.

I gulped down those pills with water. "Take some rest. If you need me, just say my name and I'll be here." He said with a warm smile and left the room.
