I stood in the living room of Nate’s temporary home. He was throwing around plates and a pan as he cooked dinner. It was actually funny watching him throw a tantrum. Finally slamming the pan down on the island, he glared up at me.
“You can’t do that.”
“I can, and I already did. Miguel and Karl’s team already are taking care of it.”
He growled and spun around, grabbing plates, slamming down those too. “Who asked you to do anything? You’ve been so wrapped it in whatever the fuck you’re doing that you shouldn’t be sniffing around my work! This is my job, Silas!”
“Nate, you’re better at delegating than this.”
“Delegating? Do you know how hard our warriors have worked over the past couple of months? They have been doing double duty. Patrols and making sure that we are safe all the while helping around the pack. I told them we were done. The only thin

*** Silas’ POV ***Really, I hadn’t meant to make the trip out here. Not yet. I knew it was still under construction. I was still incredibly impressed by the amount of work already completed. The framing was up and the roof was on, too. The doors and windows weren’t on though, giving a look into every inside as well. Not to mention everyone working. My eyes settled on Nate. He was leaning against his cane, but he was holding a corner of the plans while speaking with a few of the other guys. Originally, Nate pulled in multiple people from other packs. Apparently, he had such a rapport with certain packs they happily had their contractors and workers come to help, not just the building but the cleanup.I’d yelled at him a little while ago for being a hypocrite when asking me for permission to bring humans in order to help build. He’d been such a hard ass on letting humans into the pack.
Pushing myself up using the wall, I shook my head. “Liar! You knew. What did you think that magic would do? Did you think it would make you stronger?”“It has made me stronger!” Silas got up with the help of the table as he wiped the corner of mouth where blood was trickling down from.“No! It’s made you alone! You are all alone on this self-proclaimed Alpha island! No one is backing you up now, Silas. No one is going to be there to help you. You can’t defeat enemies alone.”He stomped up to me and grabbed my shirt. “Watch me. I am stronger than I ever was before.”“And you will die the moment I die. The moment that fucking magic destroys our bond, you get to die right alone with me. It’s that fun. You stupid fuck.”“I did what I had to. You believe in all that Aelia, Finn and Noah spew, that’s on you.”I let out a hollow chuckle. “So even i
I flopped over in bed. Again. My chest hurt and I felt sick to my stomach. This was all coming from Silas. Growling, I flopped over on my other side, curling up. His waves of drunken emotions were messing with my own. Rolling onto my back, I let out a yell.“Damn it, Silas! Just let me fucking sleep! If I could get my hands on you right now…”The world tilted, and I thought I was finally getting sick from him. Instead, I found myself standing outside Saul’s bar. Blinking, I looked around before looking down at my hands. Everything seemed like a dream. I knew what I was looking at, but everything around me seemed slightly out of focus. Like when you were looking in the background of a photo. My hands looked see-through. Like I was a ghost. There, but not really. The door shot open, and I jumped back. It was weird not stumbling or needing my cane. Was I dreaming? It felt too lucid to be dreaming. Silas stumbled out of the door and
Putting a bite of rice in my mouth, I chewed as I looked over the plans for the pack house. It had been my most recent project. While I had the old plans for the pack house, I thought it could use a bit of upgrading. Then I just threw that out the window and was starting from scratch. It was more fun that way and I could tailor our pack house to our needs. My front door slammed opened, and I leaned back in my chair, looking down at the hall. The door slammed shut again, and I rolled my eyes as Silas stormed in. It was the first time I had seen him since the hospital. That had been roughly about six weeks ago. Not once did I run into him, hear him through the mind link, or see him when I spent time out on the balcony.“What the hell did you do?”I set my spoon down in the bowl. “You’re going to have to be more specific than that, Silas. I do a lot of things during the day.”He snorted. “You nearly ruined the guest I had
Rubbing my shoulder, I stared at the plans on the hood of one of the crew’s trucks. We were currently debating how far we wanted to push back the house from the street. There was a minimum amount of feet, but the lot was pretty long. Pushing it back meant more of a front lawn.“Yeah, but we have to move the existing pipes.”“We already cut the pipes shorter because of the damage. Extending them was a must. This just means we would need to extend them more.”Rubbing my eyes and then pinching the bridge of my nose, I had to listen to the contractor and the plumber argue about where everything went for the past hour. This was the first house we were finally setting into motion to build. It took weeks to get everything cleared. I also worked with every single family whose house was destroyed. We either went with the original plans or made some alterations. If alterations were done, I had the family cover the costs of the
