Xavier’s POV

I tried to control my breathing as my grandfather drove dangerously fast down the road toward the pack.

How dare that son of a bitch attack my pack for something that isn't his. I’ll give him a slow and painful death. He’ll remember every moment of what he put my Anais through—and he will pay.

“Xavier, calm down,” Ryder said.

I focused on my breathing. My wolf and I both knew we couldn’t shift yet—doing so would reopen the wounds on my back and leave me vulnerable.

But taking those lashes… it was worth it.

“Xavier, who is after your pack?” Ryder asked.

“Alpha Gabriel. He’s a merciless Alpha—cold and ruthless. He used to beat and rape women until his own sister beat him into submission. Then he escaped,” I explained darkly.

“And what does that have to do with your pack?” Ryder asked, confused.

“He beat and raped my mate. He got her pregnant with Rosalina—and now, for some sick reason, he wants them back,” I growled.

Just the thought of Gabriel touching Anais made me sick w

Dozens of stars zoomed past as Xavier drove us toward our unknown destination. We held hands, and he gently rubbed circles on the back of mine with his thumb—calming me with his touch. The butterflies in my stomach were fluttering wildly. My heart was pounding in my chest, threatening to burst.“Oh my gosh, Xavier—where are we going?” I asked excitedly. He glanced at me and chuckled.“Patience, love. We’re almost there.” He flashed a teasing grin. Finally, we pulled up to a building with a glowing sign that read Rooftop. Xavier quickly hopped out, walked around the car, and opened my door with a gentlemanly hand extended. I blushed and smiled at his sweetness. We walked inside and approached the hostess. When she saw us, her face lit up.“Hello, Xavier. You’re right on time. You know where to go.” She winked.I felt a small surge of jealousy rise up as Xavier gently led me toward the elevator. He must’ve noticed, because as the elevator doors closed, he chuckled.“What’s so funny?” I

I sat there, still as a statue, while Raven snipped away at my hair. I wasn’t sure if this was a bad idea or not—but I trusted her to make it look good.About thirty minutes later, with hair scattered all around me, Raven dragged me to the mirror—and I gasped. All my long, beautiful jet-black hair was gone. But I liked this look.It was edgy. Strong. I didn’t look so vulnerable anymore, and I loved it.I turned and hugged Raven tightly.“Hey, hey—you’ve got hair all over you, and it’s itchy!” she laughed, gently pushing me away. “Now go hop in the shower or something. You look hairy, and it’s not cute.”She winked before walking out.I closed the bathroom door behind her and slipped out of my clothes. I adjusted the water temperature, then stepped under the warm stream. My stomach fluttered with excitement and nerves. I didn’t know what to wear, where we were going, or what Xavier had planned. This past month had been insane—emotional chaos mixed with moments of healing. Two years ago

I felt someone shaking me. I slowly opened my eyes to find myself in Xavier’s arms. Relief washed over his face when he saw I was awake. His concern shifted to tenderness as he leaned into my touch when I cupped his cheek.“I’m sorry for the pain I caused you,” he whispered, lowering his head to gently kiss my forehead.I glanced around and realized we were back at the pack house—in Xavier’s room. But Rosalina wasn’t in sight. Panic started to rise in my chest.“Rosalina’s with my grandparents, don’t worry,” he said, sensing my anxiety.“What happened?” I asked, my eyes catching the wound on the side of his face. It looked fresh, like how it had been a few days ago.“Gabriel and his followers attacked us. I’m not sure if it was a coincidence or if someone tipped him off that we were gone, but he struck. I had to shift to protect Raven—that’s why you felt pain through the bond. He’s locked in the dungeons now. I’ll let you decide what to do with him.”“I don’t want to think about him r

"Mrs. Rose Marie, where are we going?" I asked as we drove farther and farther into the forest. We had been driving for about an hour now, and there was still no word from Xavier or his grandfather.“Please, Anais, call me Rosy—or Nana Rosy,” she smiled from the front seat. “There’s a cabin we used to take Daniel and Xavier to whenever we visited. They used to play by the lake and run around the cabin like little wolves.”I stayed quiet as we passed endless trees, no sign of civilization anywhere."Anais, what was going on at the restaurant? You and Xavier seemed a little… distant," she asked gently.“I sort of upset him,” I admitted quietly.“He still feels like he’s in Daniel’s shadow?” she asked knowingly.“How did you—?”“Watching the boys grow up, it was obvious. Xavier was constantly compared to Daniel. That’s the hard part about being a twin. Daniel’s personality always outshined Xavier’s, and he hated being seen as the ‘lesser one.’ When he found out Daniel was chosen to be Al

“Ciao! You must be Anais. I’ve heard so much about you over the years,” Xavier’s grandmother said warmly, smiling as she walked over to hug both Rosalina and me.I hugged her back politely, then took my seat next to Xavier. The moment I sat down, I felt his body stiffen—he was still upset with me.“I need to go speak with the chef. Alonzo, why don’t you come with me, per favore?” she said as she stood up from her seat.Xavier’s grandfather groaned as he slid out of his chair and followed her.“I thought your grandfather’s name was Ryder?” I asked Xavier quietly.“Alonzo Ryder Astor,” he grunted, eyes still staring out the window.“Are you still mad at me?” I asked gently. He didn’t look at me, just shook his head.“I’m not angry... just disappointed, I guess. I thought we were getting better. I thought we were finally moving forward. But it feels like we’re still stuck at the beginning. No matter what I do, no matter how hard I try... I’ll always come second to Daniel. And it kills me
