DREW

I pulled back from the kiss and stared at Ebony. I couldn’t help the smile that appeared. Scout was jumping around my head.

“Mate!” He shouted. “Want mate.”

I ignored him and kept my eyes trained on her.

Ebony eyes were closed, but she licked her lips and opened them. Her chocolate brown eyes met mine as a faint blush spread across her cheeks.

She cleared her throat.

“I...” she said and started looking around the flat but returned to me.

I moved slightly, leaning closer to her.

Her eyes met mine and widened at the closeness of me.

“What’s going on in that little pretty head of yours?” I said, moving my hand to her chin, making her look at me.

Ebony stared again.

“This is going too fast,” she murmured. “I’m happy I found you, but I know nothing about you.” Scout grunted in my head, not happy with what she said.

I stared at her. She had a point. We only met each other about two hours ago.

I cleared my throat.

“We can take it slow, sweetheart,” I said. “How about we talk and go on a date tomorrow? We can see what happens.”

Ebony nodded and smiled.

I watched as she went blank.

“She talking to her cat,” Scout grumbled.

I looked at him.

“Why are you acting funny?” I asked, making Scout grunt.

“Mate should want to mate and mark us,” he grumbled as he sat down in my head, glaring at me.

I frowned.

“I know,” I said. “But you have to see it from her side. We only met two hours ago, and for us humans, we usually take a few days to get to know one another.”

Scout stared at me, c*****g his head to the side as I continued.

“Don’t you want to know, mate?” I asked, trying to make him see sense. “We can find out what she likes and dislikes.”

I stared at him.

Scout pounders over what I said and sighed.

“You may be right,” he mumbled.

I sighed and looked back at Ebony.

Ebony was looking at me with a grin.

“Your wolf,” she said.

I couldn’t help the grin that appeared.

“Yeah,” I said. “He is excited that he has you as a mate. He is just being stubborn.” Scout growled, but I ignored him.

Ebony let out a giggle.

“I know what you mean,” she said. “Cleo is the same.”

“Cleo,” Scout whispered. “Mmm...”

Damn, wolf was smitten.

I cleared my throat.

“So,” I began, “how are we going to get to know each other?”

Ebony looked at me.

I placed my hand in hers, giving her a squeeze.

She cleared her throat.

“I think we should talk,” she said. “Get to know each other and go from there.” I nodded but looked at her.

“We could,” I said. “Or we can go on a date and go from there.”

Ebony’s eyes widened.

“Date?” she asked. “Where too? I mean, there’s not much around here to go to.” That was a point.

I would have to pull out all the stops for this and might even need some help. I could ask my brothers to help, even Bess. Well, as long as she and Wilson aren’t at it again.

Scout chuckled.

I looked back at Ebony.

“I will plan something,” I said. “All you need to do is get ready.”

Ebony frowned.

“Yeah,” she said, glancing down at herself and back at me. “I have got no clothes with me. All I have are the clothes on my back and my purse. I was in a rush to leave.”

I stared at her.

That’s strange.

“You didn’t have a chance to pack?” I asked, feeling slightly concerned.

Ebony shook her head.

“No,” she said, looking down. “I didn’t. I had to leave everything behind.”

I felt my heart break slightly.

My mate had nothing to her name, only what she had.

I stared at her but cleared my throat.

“Well, we can’t have that,” I said. “We can go to the town and get some clothes. There are few shops there, but at least we can find some clothes for you even though you wouldn’t need them if I had my way.”

Ebony’s cheeks flushed a bright shade of red.

I know I told her that, but f**k, she didn’t need to wear anything.

The dress she was wearing shaped her curves perfectly.

I leaned toward her as she sucked in her breath.

“I got you, sweetheart,” I said, leaning closer to her cheek and kissing her tenderly. I pulled back and smiled.

“We can make the most of tomorrow,” I said. “We can go into the town, get you some clothes and essentials, and even have some food there.”

“Like a date,” she whispered.

I looked at her and smirked.

Such a sweetheart.

“Trust me when I say this, sweetheart,” I said. “I will wine and dine you till you have my name moaning out of that pretty little mouth at the end of the night.”

Ebony’s eyes bugged out.

Scout chuckled.

“Think you have mate speechless,” he whispered as he came closer to see her. I ignored him.

“Now,” I said as I moved up and off the couch. I stood up and looked at Ebony, holding my hand to her.

“I am going to get you some clothes you can change into,” I said as she placed her hand in mine and pulled her up to stand beside me.

I smiled as I wrapped my arm around her waist and leaned into her neck, sniffing in her scent. It sends my body into a frenzy.

Fuck I needed her.

I pull back and look into her brown eyes.

“You, my gorgeous beauty,” I said. “You can shower and freshen up.”

Ebony blushed.

“Thanks,” she murmured.

I smiled.

I hold Ebony’s hand and pull her with me toward the bathroom. Not that far from the lounge. I opened the door and guided Ebony inside.

Ebony walked in and stood, looking around the room. Her mouth fell open as she took the enormous bathtub in the middle.

Oh, that’s one place I will have her.

Scout agreed.

I let go of Ebony’s hand and showed her around. I showed her the corner shower and how to turn it on.

“I will get you some clothes,” I said.

“I don’t think you will have anything that will fit me,” she murmured, looking at me. I grinned.

“Oh, you can wear my clothes,” I said. “I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Ebony went to protest or speak, but I moved quickly and pinned her to the wall behind her. Ebony gasped as I leaned into her, my hard c**k resting on her abdomen.

I leaned close to her face as I stared back at those intense brown eyes.

“I want you,” I murmured. “But I won’t. I will get you some of my clothes, and you can wear them. You can take my bed, and I will take the couch.”

Ebony stared at me and nodded but said nothing.

I moved away and sighed.

“You get showered,” I said. “I will wait outside till you are done. A towel is on the back of the door.” I walked over to the bathroom door and opened it. I could feel her eyes on me as I left the room. I closed the door behind me and headed to my room.

I went straight to the chest of drawers and grabbed a T-shirt and a pair of boxers.

I knew I had to get some women’s clothes for her to wear for our shopping trip. Maybe Bess had something she could wear. She was a few years older than her, and even if it was what women called leggings, she could always wear another T-shirt of mine.

I grabbed the items and headed back outside.

I didn’t want to go in.

I struggled to control myself and Scout as it was; seeing her naked might even take us over the edge. Scout growled.

I left the T-shirt and boxers outside the bathroom door and went to the kitchen. I might as well make something for us to eat.

I quickly made some toast and tea.

After a few minutes, I heard the shower being switched off and moving as I placed the plate and mugs down.

The door opened, and a hand grabbed the things I had left for her. She quickly closed the door. I smiled.

Not long after, the door opened again, and out walked Ebony.

My mouth went dry, watching her walk over to me.

She looked good in my T-shirt.

Ebony moved a chair and sat down.

“Here,” I said, moving a mug and plate to her. “Eat.”

Ebony smiled and ate some toast.

“Thanks,” she said before taking a bite to eat.

I watched her eat for a moment, but after a few seconds, the plate was empty, and her mug was drained. She smiled.

“I think I should sleep,” she said. “I don’t think I slept much over the last few days.” I nodded.

“I will show you the bed,” I said, placing my mug down.

I walked toward my room with Ebony following me.

As I opened the door, I sidestepped in as Ebony walked before me. I wrapped my hand around her waist and pulled her to me.

Her breath hitched as she slammed into me.

I leaned into her as she relaxed into my touch.

“I will let you sleep,” I murmured against her neck. “I will only be on the couch. If you need me, just let me know. I’m sure I can warm you up.”

I placed a tender kiss on her shoulder and moved back.

Ebony slowly turned around and looked at me.

“You don’t have to do this,” she said. “We can share.”

I stared at her, noticing her eyes flicker to her cats and then back to hers.

I would have jumped, but I’m sticking to the couch.

The way I acted with her now was more than I could control, and I found it hard to contain myself.

“Trust me, sweetheart,” I said, keeping my eyes on her. “I would, but unless you want to be mated and marked on your first night, I will sleep in the bed with you, but I am trying to be a gentleman.”

Scout growled. I knew he wanted to be with her, but we had to wait till she felt right with us to do it. “I will see you in the morning,” I muttered as I turned around and left the room. I closed the door behind me and left, lost suddenly.

This was far from what I wanted to do, but I respected Ebony’s wishes. She wanted to go slow, which I would do, even if it would kill me.

I moved over to the couch and sat down.

There was no sleep in me.

It would be a long night, but at least I found my mate.

EBONY I walk to the bar, holding my purse to my side. I could feel Cleo move in my head, but she never came close. She knew I needed to leave and fast—too many people for my liking. Many were hunters. I had to leave as soon as I realized I wasn’t safe.I’m a shifter, a Panther shifter. I’m the only one in this town—it wasn’t a town, but a general store, motel, and bar were there. I arrived within an hour with clothes on my back and a small purse, nothing else. The purse contained my bank card and phone. The motel was the first place I looked to when I realized I needed a place to stay. I placed the key in my purse and opened the bar door. There was music playing, but quietly in the background. The scent of a wet dog hit me hard as I walked in, making the hairs on the back of my head stand up. Werewolf shifters were present here. A few people I have encountered along the way have been friendly, while others would have liked to see me hanged or even killed.I gulped as I looked around.
