The silence following Silas's command was absolute. No one dared to breathe, let alone challenge the Sovereign’s decree. Julian stood frozen for several agonizing seconds, his face pale and his chest heaving with choked anger.

Slowly, under the unified, cold glares of the gathered Alphas, he sank back into his heavy wooden chair, his knuckles white against his armrests.

Aria sat back in her seat next to Silas, her hands calm on the surface of the obsidian table. The sapphire light of the dagger had dimmed to a steady, rhythmic pulse, humming softly in sync with the magic settling beneath her skin. For the first time in months, the suffocating knot in her chest had loosened.

"Now," Silas began, his deep voice slicing cleanly through the thick atmosphere, "we address the true purpose of this council: the rising instability along the northern border."

He motioned to a large map laid out in the center of the table. Detailed ink lines mapped the territories of the northern packs, but large swaths of the borderland were shaded in jagged red ink—the mark of rogue incursions and unexplained dark surge activity.

"Reports from the perimeter scouts indicate that the corrupt magic spreading from the outer reaches is no longer random," Silas continued, his golden eyes sweeping over the leaders. "It is organized. Someone is intentionally breaching the wards, stirring up feral beasts, and funneling them toward our populated borders."

Elder Vane leaned forward, his brow furrowed in deep concern. "Sovereign Silas, the Blood Moon territory sits directly along the primary breach point. If these corrupted forces break through, Alpha Julian’s lands will be the first to fall."

All eyes shifted back to Julian, who shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

"We... we have sent extra patrols to the perimeter," Julian stammered, attempting to regain his composure and authority. "The breaches are minor. Blood Moon warriors can handle a few lost rogues without running to the Sovereign for assistance."

"Minor?" Aria spoke up, her voice smooth and deliberate. The room instantly turned to listen. "Three weeks ago, before I was cast out, two outer watchtowers along the eastern crest stopped sending signals entirely. You didn't double the patrols, Julian. You hushed the scouts and ordered the guards to ignore the perimeter smoke so the elders wouldn't panic."

Julian sprang up halfway, his chair screeching against the stone floor. "You know nothing of pack management, girl!"

"I know how to read logbooks, Julian," Aria replied coolly, meeting his furious gaze without a flinch. "And I know that while you were busy trying to hide your failing defenses, the corrupted wards were already bleeding into the soil."

A murmur of alarm swept through the council. Several Alphas looked at Julian with newfound suspicion and disdain. Hiding border breaches from the high council was a grave violation of northern alliance laws.

Silas leaned back in his chair, a cold, calculating expression on his face as he looked down at Julian. "It seems your memory of events is quite selective, Alpha Julian. Hiding threats to the realm is treason against the alliance."

"She is lying to sabotage me!" Julian pleaded, looking frantically toward the other leaders. "She has no proof!"

"She doesn't need proof when the energy signature in this room already confirms it," Silas said softly. He raised a hand, and with a flick of his wrist, a thread of dark silver power shot from his fingers into the map, igniting the red-shaded zones in pale blue light—the exact same magical resonance pulsing from Aria's dagger. "The wards require high magic to restore. Magic that you lack, but which Aria possesses."

Silas turned his head to Aria, his golden eyes filled with an unspoken promise of victory. "It appears the safety of the northern lands rests not on Blood Moon’s failing army, but on the very woman you threw away."

Julian slumped back into his seat, completely stripped of his pride, as the council turned its full attention to Aria to lead the strategy.
