The war room of the Shadowfang citadel was a cavern of dark obsidian and iron, illuminated only by the harsh, flickering glare of heavy brass sconces. On the central table lay a massive map of the Northern Realm, carved from slate and inlaid with silver paths representing the mountain passes, leylines, and border strongholds.

At the head of the table stood Silas, his dark chest armor bearing the crest of the wolf crowned in thorns. Flanking him were the four High Commanders of the Shadowfang vanguard, their faces hardened by years of harsh winters and brutal skirmishes.

Aria stood directly at Silas’s right hand, her presence no longer questioned by the military elite. She wore a fitted tunic of dark leather reinforced with silver chainmail, the sapphire dagger resting at her waist. Its blue light pulsed gently against her hip, perfectly synchronized with the steady hum of power radiating from her skin.

"The Frost-Spire has mobilized three legions along the Northern Ridge," Commander Vane reported, placing three heavy silver markers onto the slate map. "They haven't crossed into our valley yet, but their advance guard is fortifying the Iron Pass. If they secure that choke point, they can cut off our supply lines to the eastern packs."

"They're positioning for a siege," another commander muttered, crossing his broad arms. "They know our mountain terrain makes a direct assault on the citadel suicide, even for silver-clad Spire troops."

"They aren't planning a standard siege," Aria spoke up, her voice clear and carrying an undeniable weight that brought instant silence to the room. She leaned forward, placing her fingers over the glowing blue line on the map that marked the ancient leyline route. "Lord Caelen didn't just come here to threaten us. The Frost-Spire needs my bloodline to unlock the Great Monolith's primary vault. They want to siphon the northern arcana directly into their own territory, leaving Shadowfang and the surrounding packs completely drained of ambient magic."

Silas turned his head, his golden eyes fixing on her with a mix of sharp tactical assessment and dark, protective pride. "If the leylines are drained, our land freezes over completely. The crops rot, and the pack’s healing abilities drop to nothing."

"Which is exactly why we don't let them hold the Iron Pass," Silas declared, slamming his leather-gloved fist onto the center of the slate table, shaking the silver pieces. "We don't wait for them to build their siege engines. We strike the pass at midnight, before their main host can reinforce the ridge."

"Sovereign," Vane cautioned respectfully, "the Iron Pass is defended by frost-weavers. Their ice magic will slow our cavalry to a crawl in those narrow corridors."

Aria looked up, a cold, dangerous smile touching her lips as blue sparks danced across her fingertips. "Let them bring their frost. I will melt their pass into water."

Silas’s lips curved into a dark, answering smirk. He reached across the small distance between them, his gloved hand closing over hers right in front of his staring commanders. He didn't care about decorum or military stoicism; he claimed her authority as his own.

"You heard the High-Mage," Silas growled to his men, his voice echoing off the stone walls like thunder. "Prepare the vanguard. We ride at dusk."

An hour before the march, the quiet in Aria’s private armory was broken only by the sharp scrape of a whetstone against steel.

Aria adjusted the leather straps of her pauldrons, struggling slightly with the buckled clasp behind her shoulder. Before she could strain further, strong, warm hands took over the leather strap.

Silas pulled the leather tight, cinching the buckle with effortless precision before his hands slid down to rest heavily on her shoulders. He turned her around to face him, pulling her back against the edge of the armory table so he could stand between her knees.

"You don't have to be on the front lines, storm," Silas said low, his eyes searching her face with a rare, quiet vulnerability hidden beneath his Sovereign steel. "You can anchor the spellwork from the rear guard."

Aria reached up, cupping his face, her thumb brushing over the stubble of his jaw. "If I hide in the back, Caelen and his High Sovereign will think I fear them. I spent years hiding in the shadows of Blood Moon, Silas. I will never hide again."

Silas stared at her for a long moment, his chest heaving with a deep, shuddering breath. The ruthless warlord who commanded thousands surrendered completely to the sight of her.

"Then we burn them together," he whispered.

He bent his head, taking her mouth in a deep, fierce kiss that tasted of iron, storm, and unyielding promise. His hands gripped her waist, pulling her flush against his armored chest, his touch possessive and intense. Aria wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, kissing him back with equal fervor, letting the heat of his Alpha aura fuel the ancient magic roaring in her veins.

When they finally broke apart, Silas pressed his forehead against hers, his golden eyes glowing in the warm lamp light.

"If anyone steps within ten paces of you on that battlefield," Silas growled softly, "they won't survive long enough to regret it."
