Chapter One: My Perfect Life Is A lie
Charlotte's POV
“Mm… ugh…” I moaned as Max kissed my lips down to my neck.
“Ow…Ma… Max, I have to get to class now,” I said, pushing his hands away from my breast and pulling my bra in place.
“Just one more kiss, Charly”, Max said, grinning as if he had just won a lottery.
The previous night, Max sneaked into my room around 11, almost midnight just to have sex with me. Sometimes I feel…..
“ Charly..” He leaned back a little and whispered something into my ear. Honestly, I didn’t even hear it. His lips were cold, and the kisses felt empty. But I kissed him back because apparently that’s my job as Charlotte, Max's perfect girlfriend.
I’ve known Max since I was twelve. Everyone thinks we’re perfect. Cheerleaders, nerds, teachers, and random people who should be minding their business.
“CHARLY!”
Maya yelled from across the hallway. She marched over, shoved a latte into my hand, and starPleaseme like I was the world’s biggest failure.
“Didn’t you hear me calling you?” she asked.
“Oops, guess I was a little distracted,” I said, forcing a smile.
Maya rolled her eyes “Distracted licking each other’s tongues? Girl, please.”
I choked on air while she stomped off toward class not caring if I followed, so I jogged beside her like her sad little assistant.
The hallway was loud, people were laughing, talking, and staring, mostly at me. I did the usual: smile like my life isn’t on fire.
My phone buzzed. Two messages from Max:
“Didn’t finish that kiss”
“Miss you already, babe”
“Max again?” Maya asked without looking at me.
I locked my phone and shoved it into my pocket. “ It’s nothing.”
Maya sucked her teeth. “You’ve been on that phone like it’s giving you superpowers”
“I’m not that bad,” I said.
“You are and you’re getting worse.”
Her voice was soft but scary, like she could see straight into my brain.
We stopped at her locker, and she slammed it shut as it had personally offended her last week.
“Charly , you act like Max owns you,” she said. “I don’t like who you become around him.”
Ouch, that one hit right in the heart, like a slap to my face.
“I’m fine,” I lied badly.
“No, you’re pretending, you don’t even look happy with him.”
“Okay, fine, I'll text him later,” I said, shoving the phone into my bag.
“Will you?” she asked, giving me a side eye
.
I looked away because yes, okay, I’m a liar.
We got to Chemistry class . And sat near the window. My brain wasn’t in class. It was on my phone. Inside the stupid dating app, the girls dared me to d******d it for a few nights.
I was scrolling on the app that night and then I met her, Sophie_wtf.
Her profile picture was cute and weird; half of her face was hidden behind a plushie and she texted me like we knew each other. And when she messaged me, my heart did this weird jumping jack thing.
The previous night, I almost accidentally told her how I felt, stupid right?? But she was so funny and so not like Max.
At least nobody knows I’m on the app, they also don’t know my username is Lottie, a name I never use in real life.
This morning, Sophie sent a “good morning” message.
I didn’t reply because I didn’t want to, but because I was busy figuring out the perfect way to respond, I didn’t want to sound desperate.
“Charlotte,” Mr Morris said suddenly.
I didn’t hear him.
“Charlotte.”
I jumped so high and sat up and straight like a student who totally cares about chemistry.
“Yes??” I said, trying to pretend I heard everything he had been saying.
He dropped a worksheet on my table. “You and Maya are partners today.”
Maya snorted “Oh wow”, I guess she thought that was hilarious too.
We started working, but I couldn’t focus. Maya kept looking at me like she knew something was off.
Then the door slammed open, and the whole class twisted their necks to see who dared walk into Mr Morris's class late.
And of course Charles Miller walked in late again and he wasn’t alone, a new girl followed him in, she was pretty, confused and holding his arm like she just got hired for the role of Charles’ girlfriend.
Someone whispered behind me, “Is that his new girlfriend already?”
Another person added, “Didn’t he dump Amber like two days ago?”
I didn’t even have to look at Maya to know she was staring at Amber to see her reactions.
Charles broke up with Amber a few weeks ago, but the drama went viral days later. People were saying she was obsessed and would do anything for him. Ever since then, she’d disappeared into the background, barely talking in class, always minding her business. Honestly, I barely noticed her anymore, not like I ever did though.
Charles smirked like he owned the school and said, “Sorry I’m late, traffic.”
Boy, you live five minutes away.
Mr Morris sighed “Just sit down, Charles.”
Charles winked at the new girl, and for a second, I actually prayed for her safety. He’s basically a walking red flag with legs.
My phone buzzed again, and I didn’t check it, but it felt louder, like it was calling me by my name. For a second, I thought it was another notification from that stupid anonymous school page, the one that likes posting rumours. But no, this time it was definitely Sophie.
Sophie’s message flashed in my head:
Sophie_wtf: “Still up for later, Lottie? I wanna tell you something.”
About what? ? Wait, is she about to confess her undying love to me?
I stared at the worksheet like it was supposed to save my life and give me relationship advice or maybe just teleport me out Hartere.
Maya nudged me “You’re zoning out again.”
“No, I’m fine,” I mumbled, pretending to be focusing on the worksheet.
I wanted to reply to Sophie's messages so bad, I chewed on my pencil, glanced at Maya, tried to focus, and somehow almost knocked over my water bottle.
Then, I lifted my phone slowly, and my fingers hovered over Sophie’s message. Just as I was
about to reply, Max walked up behind me as Sophie's message lit up the screen and I immediately stopped breathing.
CHAPTER 107: I FORGIVE YOU CHARLOTTE’S POV “Talk about what?” I replied quickly. And by “quickly,” I mean I typed so fast my thumb almost dislocated.Austin didn’t reply. I stared at the message for a full minute before tossing my phone across the room again because apparently that’s my new coping mechanism.I barely slept.Between Maya snoring like a baby goat and my brain replaying every embarrassing second of last night, my soul left my body at least twice. So the next morning at school, I was a walking zombie with lip gloss. The moment I stepped onto the hallway, someone called my name.“Charlotte— wait!”Oh great! My day was already ruined.Austin jogged up to me, looking like a stressed puppy.Hair messy, eyes tired. He stopped in front of me, hands on his knees, breathing dramatically.“I… was… calling… you.”“That sounds like a you problem,” I said sweetly, continuing down the hall.He walked beside me, still panting.“You blocked me.”“I did not block you,” I scoffed.Which
CHAPTER 106 : I'M OVER HIM CHARLOTTE’S POV I walked to my window and pulled the curtains open, pretending to admire the view like some deep, wise philosopher who had finally figured out life.Newsflash: I had not.Behind me, Maya was sprawled on my bed, watching a chaotic episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians on her phone, eating plantain chips like she owned the place.“We’ve already talked about this,” I announced loudly, mostly for myself. “I’ve cleared things with Austin. I don’t like him. He doesn’t like me. We don’t like each other. In fact—” I flipped my hair dramatically. “I never liked him at all.”Maya didn’t even look up.Just paused her video and said, “Uh-huh. Sure. Totally believable.”I glared at her and she smirked.I turned back to the window because arguing with Maya was a waste of oxygen.Nope. Not thinking about him.Not thinking about last night. Not thinking about how stupid I felt or how he said ‘I didn’t know you still liked me’ like I was a relic from t
CHAPTER 105 : WHY ALWAYS ME CHARLOTTE’S POV So that’s what this was all about. The performance, the Nail conversation, everything ohhhhh my goshhh I feel so so stupid.I stepped back slightly from the crowd, my grip tightening around the cup in my hand. The music was still playing, the audience still cheering, but it all sounded far away now, like I was underwater watching everyone else live normally without me.Austin was still on stage, smiling like everything was perfect and Nia was beside him like she belonged there.Of course she was.Of course I wasn’t part of whatever moment this was supposed to be.My chest felt tight, heavier with every second I stayed.I should’ve known better.I really should’ve.“Charlotte?” Maya’s voice cut through my thoughts.I didn’t look at her.She stepped closer anyway, immediately picking up on my mood. “Okay… what happened?”“Nothing,” I said quickly.Maya narrowed her eyes. “That’s a lie.”“I said I don’t want to talk about it.”That shut her
CHAPTER 104 : CRUSH GONE WRONG CHARLOTTE’S POV My stomach dropped. Oh no. God please Maya slowly reached for her phone like she was about to open a horror movie.“Charlotte…” she whispered.“I don’t want to look,” I said.“You have to.”I swallowed and unlocked my phone. And there it was.@BridgehallGossip.New post. My fingers felt cold as I tapped it open.“BREAKING: “CHARLOTTE SEEN GETTING COZY WITH MYSTERY GUY IN CLASS??”“LOVE TRIANGLE OR REBOUND SITUATION??”There was even a blurry picture of me wearing his hoodie.I locked my phone slowly.“Wow,” Maya whispered. “They work fast.”I didn’t say anything because suddenly this wasn’t just a cute rom com movie. It was a situation and it was already getting out of control and the worst part?I didn’t hate it, that was the problem. I should’ve hated it but I didn’t.I just sat there, staring at my desk like it might give me instructions on how to survive my own life.Austin didn’t look at me again for the rest of class. He knew so
CHAPTER 103 : MY CRUSH CHARLOTTE’S POV Why would he even ask if I had a boyfriend?like hello? Why would you need that information unlessMy brain short circuited and my knees almost bent.I almost did a backflip but remembered gravity and embarrassment exist.I looked up and realized he was staring at me, waiting for an answer.Oh no.He definitely saw the entire mental Olympics I just performed.“Umm… it’s complicated,” I blurted. His eyebrows shot up in this tiny, hilarious way. I couldn’t tell if he was confused, terrified, or trying not to laugh. Why am I like this?gosh “I mean.it’s complicated but no. No, I don’t have a boyfriend.” An awkward little laugh leaked out of me like someone squeezed my lungs.Austin’s shoulders relaxed, just a little. Was he relieved? Why would he be relieved??I refused to think about that.He nodded slowly. “Oh. Good to know.”Good to know???Good to know???What does that even mean? You don’t ask a girl that and say good to know unless you’re plan
CHAPTER 102 : MY LONG LOST LOVE CHARLOTTE’S POV I woke up the next morning with that same heavy feeling in my chest. You know the one, the disappointing hangover. Not the dramatic heartbreak type, just the slightly pathetic ugh-I-tried-and-the-universe-laughed-in-my-face kind.I don't like Austin? Gross what no Maya showed up at my front door before school, bouncing like she had eaten electricity for breakfast.“So?” she demanded, not even letting me put on my backpack properly. “How did it go with Austin? Did you flirt? Did he flirt? Did someone faint? Preferably him?”I shut the door behind us. “ Why didn't you ask me yesterday? And you choose now to ask me. Anyways, it was bad.”“Bad as in he murdered your pet squirrel or bad as in you panicked and said something stupid?”“No squirrels were harmed,” I muttered. “It was just bad. Period.”Maya stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. “Charlotte. What happened?”I shrugged, trying to sound casual, even though the memory stung.“I
CHAPTER 87 : LIFE STINKS SOPHIE’S POV I couldn't stop replaying the words in my head“I’m tired, baby,”, “And I don’t want you to grow up tired too.”, “I already signed it.”.I could hear the echo growing loud and loud in my head. Why did she have to fuck my life at every chance she gets. Why?I
CHAPTER 86: HI BITCH SOPHIE’S POV I finally had the courage to attend cheer practice after weeks of staying home, scrolling through tiktok and wishing I never accepted the offer.I don't even know how I got in the cheer team because honestly, I didn't apply. “I might as well suck it up and go f
CHAPTER 83:MY PLAN CHARLOTTE'S POV “Hey Maya, are you still up for carnival shopping?”I barely finished the sentence before she spun around with this sparkly grin like she’d been waiting for me to ask. Honestly, her excitement made mine even louder. I’d been looking forward to the carnival all w
CHAPTER 81 : RUN BITCHSOPHIE’S POV“Alright Sophie, let's not try to cause any commotion” she says a little frightened, her voice now echoing in the silent gym “Nia apologize this instant”“But Mrs Ama, I promise she probably must have slipped on air or lost balance, she's clearly weighing 60 kg
