Chapter One: My Perfect Life Is A lie

Charlotte's POV

“Mm… ugh…” I moaned as Max kissed my lips down to my neck.

“Ow…Ma… Max, I have to get to class now,” I said, pushing his hands away from my breast and pulling my bra in place.

“Just one more kiss, Charly”, Max said, grinning as if he had just won a lottery.

The previous night, Max sneaked into my room around 11, almost midnight just to have sex with me. Sometimes I feel…..

“ Charly..” He leaned back a little and whispered something into my ear. Honestly, I didn’t even hear it. His lips were cold, and the kisses felt empty. But I kissed him back because apparently that’s my job as Charlotte, Max's perfect girlfriend.

I’ve known Max since I was twelve. Everyone thinks we’re perfect. Cheerleaders, nerds, teachers, and random people who should be minding their business.

“CHARLY!”

Maya yelled from across the hallway. She marched over, shoved a latte into my hand, and starPleaseme like I was the world’s biggest failure.

“Didn’t you hear me calling you?” she asked.

“Oops, guess I was a little distracted,” I said, forcing a smile.

Maya rolled her eyes “Distracted licking each other’s tongues? Girl, please.”

I choked on air while she stomped off toward class not caring if I followed, so I jogged beside her like her sad little assistant.

The hallway was loud, people were laughing, talking, and staring, mostly at me. I did the usual: smile like my life isn’t on fire.

My phone buzzed. Two messages from Max:

“Didn’t finish that kiss”

“Miss you already, babe”

“Max again?” Maya asked without looking at me.

I locked my phone and shoved it into my pocket. “ It’s nothing.”

Maya sucked her teeth. “You’ve been on that phone like it’s giving you superpowers”

“I’m not that bad,” I said.

“You are and you’re getting worse.”

Her voice was soft but scary, like she could see straight into my brain.

We stopped at her locker, and she slammed it shut as it had personally offended her last week.

“Charly , you act like Max owns you,” she said. “I don’t like who you become around him.”

Ouch, that one hit right in the heart, like a slap to my face.

“I’m fine,” I lied badly.

“No, you’re pretending, you don’t even look happy with him.”

“Okay, fine, I'll text him later,” I said, shoving the phone into my bag.

“Will you?” she asked, giving me a side eye

.

I looked away because yes, okay, I’m a liar.

We got to Chemistry class . And sat near the window. My brain wasn’t in class. It was on my phone. Inside the stupid dating app, the girls dared me to d******d it for a few nights.

I was scrolling on the app that night and then I met her, Sophie_wtf.

Her profile picture was cute and weird; half of her face was hidden behind a plushie and she texted me like we knew each other. And when she messaged me, my heart did this weird jumping jack thing.

The previous night, I almost accidentally told her how I felt, stupid right?? But she was so funny and so not like Max.

At least nobody knows I’m on the app, they also don’t know my username is Lottie, a name I never use in real life.

This morning, Sophie sent a “good morning” message.

I didn’t reply because I didn’t want to, but because I was busy figuring out the perfect way to respond, I didn’t want to sound desperate.

“Charlotte,” Mr Morris said suddenly.

I didn’t hear him.

“Charlotte.”

I jumped so high and sat up and straight like a student who totally cares about chemistry.

“Yes??” I said, trying to pretend I heard everything he had been saying.

He dropped a worksheet on my table. “You and Maya are partners today.”

Maya snorted “Oh wow”, I guess she thought that was hilarious too.

We started working, but I couldn’t focus. Maya kept looking at me like she knew something was off.

Then the door slammed open, and the whole class twisted their necks to see who dared walk into Mr Morris's class late.

And of course Charles Miller walked in late again and he wasn’t alone, a new girl followed him in, she was pretty, confused and holding his arm like she just got hired for the role of Charles’ girlfriend.

Someone whispered behind me, “Is that his new girlfriend already?”

Another person added, “Didn’t he dump Amber like two days ago?”

I didn’t even have to look at Maya to know she was staring at Amber to see her reactions.

Charles broke up with Amber a few weeks ago, but the drama went viral days later. People were saying she was obsessed and would do anything for him. Ever since then, she’d disappeared into the background, barely talking in class, always minding her business. Honestly, I barely noticed her anymore, not like I ever did though.

Charles smirked like he owned the school and said, “Sorry I’m late, traffic.”

Boy, you live five minutes away.

Mr Morris sighed “Just sit down, Charles.”

Charles winked at the new girl, and for a second, I actually prayed for her safety. He’s basically a walking red flag with legs.

My phone buzzed again, and I didn’t check it, but it felt louder, like it was calling me by my name. For a second, I thought it was another notification from that stupid anonymous school page, the one that likes posting rumours. But no, this time it was definitely Sophie.

Sophie’s message flashed in my head:

Sophie_wtf: “Still up for later, Lottie? I wanna tell you something.”

About what? ? Wait, is she about to confess her undying love to me?

I stared at the worksheet like it was supposed to save my life and give me relationship advice or maybe just teleport me out Hartere.

Maya nudged me “You’re zoning out again.”

“No, I’m fine,” I mumbled, pretending to be focusing on the worksheet.

I wanted to reply to Sophie's messages so bad, I chewed on my pencil, glanced at Maya, tried to focus, and somehow almost knocked over my water bottle.

Then, I lifted my phone slowly, and my fingers hovered over Sophie’s message. Just as I was

about to reply, Max walked up behind me as Sophie's message lit up the screen and I immediately stopped breathing.

CHAPTER 114: I'M SORRY CHARLOTTE’S POV “Because—,” she said, dragging it out like she was enjoying every second of this, “people deserve to know when they’re being lied to.”The hallway didn’t just go quiet. It shifted.Like everyone suddenly leaned in without moving, waiting for something worse to happen. My chest tightened.“Lied to?” I repeated slowly, my voice dangerously calm. “You mean like when you told the entire school you and Austin were basically dating?”A few people nearby sucked in their breath.Nia didn’t blink.“That wasn’t a lie,” she said smoothly. “That was… misunderstood.”I let out a short laugh. Not amused. Not even close.“Misunderstood?” I echoed. “You literally built a whole imaginary relationship and posted it like a trailer for a movie nobody asked for.”That got a reaction. A few muffled laughs. A few “damn” whispers. Her jaw tightened.Austin stepped slightly forward.“Enough,” he said. And the way he said it? Not loud and not aggressive. But final.Eve

CHAPTER 113: PLEASE SNITCH CHARLOTTE’S POV Austin ran a hand through his hair, visibly annoyed now. “This isn’t your business.”Nia shrugged. “Not yet.”The way she said yet made something cold crawl down my spine. Then she turned and walked off like she hadn’t just detonated my entire emotional stability in five seconds.Heavy silence fell. A very uncomfortable oneAustin exhaled slowly. “She’s going to make this worse.”“She already did,” I muttered. We stood there for a moment, neither of us moving. The air felt different now like something had cracked open and neither of us knew how to close it again.Austin glanced at me. “We should probably go.”“Yeah,” I said quickly. “Yeah, okay.”But my voice didn’t sound steady. It sounded like I was lying.—The rest of the day felt off. CHAPTER 112 : FAKE DATING OR MAYBE NOT CHARLOTTE’S POV I should have said no. I realky should have but That’s the first thought that crossed my mind as I stared at Austin’s hand still wrapped around mine.“If we can’t fix it… we make them believe it.”At the time, it sounded like a solution. Now?Now it felt like I had willingly signed up for emotional destruction because pretending to date someone you really like wont be easy.Worse of all you kissed the person lips to lips. Oh my goodness That's was psychological warfare.“Say something,” Austin murmured, his thumb brushing lightly against my hand. That tiny movement sent a ridiculous amount of awareness through my body.I cleared my throat. “Okay,” I said. “Fine.”His brows lifted slightly. “Fine?”“Yes. Fine. We fake date. We prove everyone wrong. We shut down the rumors, how hard can it be an I right? Easy”“Easy,” he repeated. We both knew that was a lie.It started immediately and by immediately, I mean the second we stood u

CHAPTER 111 : YES WE FUCKED, SO?CHARLOTTE’S POV When I woke up, I didn’t move for a full minute.Partly because my back felt like the couch had personally fought me in my sleep. And partly because my brain was busy replaying last night like a broken movie projector.Ohhh and let's not forget I kissed Austin, not just any lips touching each other type of kiss but a whole fifteen minutes of sucking each other's tongue.“Oh my gosh,” I whispered to myself, instantly dragging a blanket over my face like that would erase the memory or at least quiet the fireworks going off in my chest.I finally peeked from under the blanket. Austin was already awake, sitting on the bed and tying his boots. When he looked up at me, his face softened just a tiny bit.“Morning,” he said. His morning voice should honestly be illegal.“Morning,” I said back, sounding like a sick goat.I sat up, hair in tragic chaos, emotions worse. I grabbed my jacket just so I had something to do that didn’t involve starin

CHAPTER 110 : A NIGHT WITH MY CRUSH CHARLOTTE’S POV What the heck, Is this a dream? Am I dreaming?Because there is absolutely no logical explanation for me standing here, snow crunching under my boots, staring at Austin Reyes, while someone just announced we’re sharing a cabin. If this is a dream, I don’t want to wake up.Not ever.Like, someone cancel morning forever.I blinked once then twice. Then looked around like maybe someone would jump out and say “April Fool’s.”Nothing.Austin was still standing in front of me, waiting patiently for my response Oh no. Say something normal.Say something cool.Say something that doesn’t scream my brain has left the chat.“Sure thing, dude,” I said. The moment I said it, my soul physically left my body, looked at me, and walked away disappointed.Dude?Dude??Austin blinked slowly.“…Dude?” he repeated.I coughed. “I mean like—yeah. Cool. Let's share a cabin together”He smiled slightly. That soft smile again. The one that made my brain gl

CHAPTER 109: PARTNERSHIP FROM HELL CHARLOTTE'S POV I walked out of the cafeteria so fast I probably looked like someone fleeing a crime scene. My food tray? Abandoned. My appetite? Dead. Officially pronounced missing. The moment I reached the hallway, the embarrassment and jealousy hit me at the same time, like a double slap from life itself.No. No way. No actual way Austin was going to ask Nai, could he?I shoved open the bathroom door, went straight to the sink, and gripped the counter like it was the only thing keeping me from collapsing into a puddle of emotional stupidity.“Okay. Breathe,” I whispered to myself.Did I breathe? No.I choked on air like a malfunctioning vacuum cleaner. Why didn’t I say yes?Why did I say I wasn’t going? He asked me. He freaking asked me.And I just threw the opportunity away because my brain was too busy pretending I didn’t care.I squeezed my eyes shut.Okay. Step one: fix this.Step two: pretend this wasn’t because of Austin.Step three: absolu
