Greetings, Honey

“Safer?” Delta echoed softly, but she figured it was a talk for later. She just turned to find Foxley and got him to stop plastering his face against the glass wall.

Wolfram squatted down to see how it looked from Foxley’s eye level. He couldn’t even see the price as if it was not something a child should see. He then turned to Foxley, whose cheeks were being wiped clean by his mother. After all, he pressed his face against something other children must have pressed their faces as well.

Foxley then hugged Wolfram’s leg. “Wolfie, will you buy it for me? Let’s play on it together. I already know a lot of games we can play together!”

“Sure, but you have to be extra well-behaved to your mom. If you misbehave, she will take it away.” Wolfram laughed, patting the head of the obedient child. He then got to his feet. “Let’s go inside. Maybe you can find more games for it.”

“Okay!” Foxley went to hold Wolfram’s hand instead. “Help me read instructions, too. I can’t read all words yet. Mommy said, I can’t play games I don’t understand.”

Wolfram lifted his brows. Most games were for ages above twelve. He should probably be careful about what to buy for Foxley. Then again, would it help if he supervised the boy every time the console got turned on? Fantasy gore was a thing in most.

The public space was not that bad for someone who never went out enough for people to recognize in a few seconds. Wolfram would opt for private rooms in a luxurious restaurant, but he didn’t want Eine and Foxley to not see normal things. When they grew up, it should be up to them where to eat. For now, Wolfram just had to keep fashion glasses on his face.

Eine and Foxley were too obedient for Wolfram to throw into the company of Delta alone. He even liked sitting around with them while they ate. Since they were in a buffet restaurant, Delta had to fetch the children’s food first before she could pick out the ones for the adults. She didn’t have to serve the other, but it was just a little payment. Wolfram was watching over the twins anyway.

After filling a plate with meat, Delta looked around the place. It was not too crowded for a Sunday, but it was best for Eine’s situation. Thinking about it, she wondered if Wolfram was taken before he had the implant. She didn’t doubt it—Wolfram was born to a powerful man. Who wouldn’t want to kidnap him?

“Hey, I’m already back. If you want something else, I can tell where I saw some.” Delta only smiled as she placed the meat down. The man nodded and just picked from what she had brought.

“Mommy, let’s trade!” Eine giggled as she left some fish on her mother’s plate. Then she got a slice from the meat plate. Delta only chuckled before eating the fish first.

Wolfram started looking around as well, seeing how some people were just standing around. They held plates as if choosing, but they seemed to be taking quite a while.

When Wolfram looked away, one of the bystanders glanced in their direction. The person picked up a pair of sausages and walked away. He also lifted his sleeve to his mouth as he walked away.

Such small movements didn’t escape the eyes of the man who was good at hiding his field of vision. Wolfram then eyed Delta, who was helping Foxley with the sauce on his chin. “Delta, what’s over there next to the fountain? You didn’t go there.”

“Hmm? Those are for bread and the deli. Are you hoping to get some sausage? Maybe they serve the best kind,” Delta answered without looking at him. She was more concerned with making sure her children were eating heartily.

“Bread? I’ll get some.” Wolfram got up from his seat and walked to where the garlic bread was served. He joined the crowd that only stood around and made minimal movements. He reached for a plate and locked his eyes on the bread he would bring back to their table.

When someone noticed that he was standing too close, she decided to pick up the tongs. Just as she reached out for the food, Wolfram intercepted her tongs with his. The woman didn’t gasp or jerk, but she did turn to Wolfram as if keeping up with the act. However, what she saw was the piercing gaze of an angry, dangerous man.

Wolfram wasn’t even smiling when he met the woman’s gaze. “You better be my father’s people. Else, you won’t like where you’ll find your heads. The city is wide and noisy. No one will hear your screams. Now get your colleagues out of my sight.”

“…” The woman didn’t say anything, but another man stood close by. He whispered behind Wolfram, “Don’t think that we’re afraid of you, Wolfram Colton. Our boss merely tolerates you. If you continue to threaten us, I might have to remind you of your own words.”

“A boss, huh?” Wolfram pulled away his tongs and took slices of the garlic bread. “He better not try to dance with me. You think I’m not worth your fear? That’s not good.”

Wolfram placed the tongs down and looked at the man behind him, the same one that he saw walk away earlier. “I’m not really kind to others.”

He slipped through the gap between the other man and the food stands nearby. The man only walked away and back to their table.

The female operative turned to find her squad leader, but she noticed how the other man grew pale. She stepped closer and helped him lean on the food stand. “What’s wrong?”

“I need to leave. Don’t screw up the mission.” The male gave her the plate he was holding, only for him to hold the side of his waist. Before he could even leave completely, the smell of blood wafted in the air. He winced as he forced himself to run out of the restaurant. “What did he stab me with?”

Back at their table, Wolfram wondered why Delta was not around. He placed the plate down and offered some to Eine before asking, “Where’s your mom?”

Eine took a piece and ate it with her pasta. “She said she had to run to the bathroom. Mommy’s tummy is not kind to her when she eats a lot of food. Can you finish the meat alone, Wolfie?”

“Alone? Foxley is already taking my share…”

He already noticed something was wrong, but he didn’t expect Delta would be so bold. The woman left her children on their own since Wolfram was just within their sight. As for her, she had gone inside the spacious bathroom. With all that stalls, she figured there would be a lot of other people.

However, there were only her and a man leaning against the sink. The tall man had a cigar in his mouth, inconsiderately smoking inside the women’s room. His big hand was even lightly touching the cigar. He then took the cigar off and blew out smoke.

That was only when he turned to smile at Delta. “Greetings, honey. I see that our children are still very energetic. I wonder how Carolus handled his job so poorly.”

Delta stared at the man and laced poison in her words. “Brandon, you will only die here.”
