It was so strange. Why did this woman want his clothes instead? He figured that was what most women wanted to wear. No matter. He just walked out of the bathroom after taking the red dress. Wolfram called over a maid and gave an order that froze the maid.
“Leave this in my room. Get a change for me that will also fit Delta.” That was what he said, and it was pretty straightforward. He just didn’t know why his maid stared at his face.
“Why are you still standing here?” Wolfram frowned at the maid.
The maid took the red dress and asked, “Master, the matron bought women’s sweaters and other things for Ms. Hart. Does she really need to be in your clothes?”
Wolfram slid his eyes to the side, but he couldn’t possibly open the bathroom door again. He just made the maid take on his gaze. “Take both. I’ll be waiting right here, so make it quick.”
With that, the maid briskly walked away after a bow. She then proceeded to run across the house as if she was collecting materials to defuse a bomb.
As for the ‘bomb,’ Wolfram just leaned on the wall next to the bathroom door. He was hungry, but he figured the maids should be serving the kids first. He didn’t have to eat alone since Delta did say she would eat, too. It was easier to speak to just the mother for now.
“Master! I have returned.” The maid had run back and controlled her breathing. Wolfram only looked through the clothes she bought and gestured for her to bring them to Delta. They were both women; Delta shouldn’t be screaming if the maid walked in on her changing.
From inside the bathroom, Delta was only waiting for the new set of clothes. She chose to put on her shirt from earlier, only holding her skirt before her to conceal her thighs. When the maid walked in, they exchanged smiles before Delta collected the clothes.
The maid watched the woman change into designer clothes meant for house lounging. The body of the woman was shapely in places, but it didn’t stand out too much. Delta Hart was not a woman the master picked up from a night out, for sure.
Erm, that sounded wrong. That man barely left the house. How could he even be outside at night? That begged the question: how did the master know this woman he claimed to be his wife? Did this woman go on a live stream and asked someone to marry her?
And the master agreed to that?
“Is something wrong?” Delta asked as she brushed her hair after changing, her back turned to the maid. “You have been staring at me.”
“Ms. Hart, how did you meet Master? Erm, I’m just curious.” The maid didn’t stop herself from asking. She shouldn’t be meddling with her master’s affairs unless told by the matron. However, everyone in the household was weirded out by the fact that the master was suddenly married.
Delta wore a blank smile when she was facing the mirror. “I ran into him. He didn’t want to speak, so he made a story. Don’t worry. You won’t see us for so long.”
The maid narrowed her eyes. “The Master is spending on you. I don’t think he’s just preparing to have you around for a short while. Erm, I should walk you to the dining hall now, Ms. Hart.”
“All right. I will follow you.” The placid woman turned to the maid, and the maid quickly felt something was wrong. This woman… was not planning to suddenly vanish, right?
…
Delta felt more comfortable in her pink sweater. She was also given a pair of denim jeans to go with it. She had the lingerie underneath, but at least that was hidden. If she appeared in an expensive dress, her kids might think they were going to the mall. After getting found by Carolus’s group, why would they expose themselves again?
The smell of the food took away Delta’s attention from her thoughts. She remembered how she should eat first to have enough energy to think. Moreover, she felt warm from the smiles of her kids. Eine and Foxley were old enough to eat on their own, and they enjoyed their food so much.
“Mommy! Mommy! I’ve never eaten anything like this before!” Foxley giggled and cut up a portion of his steak. “Mommy, Mommy, sit closer. I’ll share it with you.”
“She has her own. You don’t have to give her some of yours.” Wolfram was already there, unable to wait for Delta to come. He was too hungry.
Eine moved her head up from her pasta. She smiled at her mother as a greeting before eating again. Eine had to finish first, so she could clean after herself and her brother. However, she wondered if she could carry three of those heavy plates.
Delta sat down and watched the two kids while the maids served her food. On a normal day, Eine and Foxley would be eating by themselves. She only joined them when it was dinner time. Watching them eat independently was strangely satisfying.
Her eyes then moved to the maids standing around the side. It was as if they were ready to run around at the order of their master. There were so many of them at the side, was Mr. Colton very particular that there should be five of them at the ready?
“Why are you still not eating?” Wolfram asked as he saw how the plates were all in front of Delta. However, the woman was still looking at the maids. He then glanced at the maids hoping not to meet his gaze. “Do you need something else from them?”
“Nothing.” Delta smiled at him in response. She then attended to her food, but it was something she wouldn’t eat on a normal basis. Well, something she had not yet eaten again for years. No matter. She would take it as Mr. Colton treating her to lunch.
The dining hall was quiet as if they were in a restaurant. Instead of one big table, there were three: one for Wolfram, one for the kids, and one for Delta. It should be unnerving, but Wolfram was happy to be left alone. He was used to eating alone, anyway.
It’s just that a maid walked in with a house phone on a velvet pillow. She stood next to Wolfram, who paused when she appeared. The maid spoke without looking down at her master, “Master Wolfram, Master David wants to speak with you.”
“I don’t like this.” Wolfram’s eye twitched. Then again, why would he not think that his very father would not hear about the ‘wife’ during the building’s inauguration?
Wolfram would answer the phone then and there, but there were three more people at the table. Then again, seeing how they basically didn’t care about the maid, he just answered it. He pressed the button and listened through the silence that came after.[“I heard you suddenly picked out a wife.”] His father’s voice was coarse from his illness. However, Wolfram could still recognize that voice… and how the father’s voice was coarser than the last time.“I opened the building already. I only have to do two things that you asked me to do.” Wolfram only glanced at the others, but the kids were too busy eating. Their mother was also keeping to herself. They didn’t seem to care about his phone call. “I just decided to cross out another from the list.”
Eine and Foxley were not used to rooming away from their mother, so the concept of having a different room for all three was so foreign. Moreover, Eine was so sure Foxley could not keep up with cleaning after himself. It was just that… Wolfram had someone redecorate some guest rooms while they were busy washing off and eating. The eyes of the little girl could not contain their luster when she stared at the walls of her room. Dolls were on the shelves, and the pastel colors of pink and blue made a swirl. There was also a doll house and a lot of stuffed toys placed somewhere in the room. On a corner was a small pink tent with a play set of tea time on a plastic table. A plastic stove was inside the tent.“Do you like it? I can buy a few more things when we go out, so make a list.” Wolfram stood by the door, watching the reaction of the little girl. She was already seven or eight, but she behaved like she hadn’t seen so many toys before.Instead of going around like her mother and her b
Unlike in Eine’s room, most of Foxley’s toys were for outdoor use. Right now, Wolfram was letting him test out a drone. However, they could only fly it around the Blue Moon Estate’s yard. The tall grid fences allowed Wolfram to see through the defenses, but they were still wired to a power grid. If the drone flew over, it would get zapped by the fences. Crashing it would also give the same effect.Delta pursed her lips closed. She didn’t know this residence had electric fences. When she looked out earlier, the fences looked like gigantic chicken wire. It was good she found out before she tried to cut through it herself.Eine played with her new toys in her room, while Foxley ran around to follow his drone. However, he played it strangely. He would try his best to perch it somewhere he could reach and retrieve it himself. He said, he was
Wolfram looked around as he skimmed through the life-sized dolls sitting in a corner. Eine was asking to store those for now because they scared her. They were beautiful, but she didn’t seem to feel safe around them. If Delta was going to hide, she should be hiding among those dolls. However, that was too easy. That was why he turned to the bed, where more toys occupied a good third of the space. He walked toward it, the maids keeping an eye on him. The master stood at the side and watched the stuffed animals intently. When he spotted a strange fabric tucked underneath one, he already knew Delta was hidden underneath them. His eyes then looked in the direction of the life-sized dolls. “Well, this is hard. I’m already exhausted from pretending I like going outside.”“Can we recommend res
“That’s not an excuse.”Knocks came to the door, and Wolfram darted a glare at Lena. The maid poked her head from the gap and asked, “M-Master? Are you finished? Miss Eine wants to see her dress.”Wolfram was wearing a maroon shirt, so he just closed his clothes to hide the injury. He got up from the bed and walked out to meet Eine. Delta was left there on her own, wiping her lips clean from her saliva and the blood. As her tongue glided across her teeth, she remembered how Wolfram’s tasted in her mouth. For some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to forget.“Mommy, are you okay?” Eine looked at her mother’s dazed eyes. She just saw how Wolfram patted her head and held onto his shoulder after.“Hmm? Yes, d
The limo continued to drive until they reached a seven-star hotel. The children’s eyes reflected the neon lights and the glare of the shine. This was the hotel under Colton Industries, but it belonged to the faction handled by the eldest son. This was also the place where the sick father was checked in for the weekend.“Mr. Colton, welcome to Rosa Bianca. I am Jen. Please follow me to your room.” The usherette picked them up after the limousine parked. She had a keycard for the express elevator to the VIP floors. “Your father is expecting you in the restaurant later at eight-thirty.”“Sure, we’ll be there.” Wolfram was used to this usherette. She was the one always assigned to Wolfram. After all, she knew well that this man wasn’t one to speak a lot. It’s j
The third brother stared at the others. His eldest brother, Yuri, came alone. His wife was too busy with her business affairs that she chose a business trip over this dinner. He appeared to be the most elegant and eloquent among them, and yet his veiny hands knew more hard work than all. On his face were a pair of thin glasses and their mother’s tall nose no one else inherited.Three chairs away was the second brother, Zenon. He arrived with his vain wife, even constantly retouching her makeup to appear the best. However, if one looked closer at her head, her blonde hair was nothing but dyed. As for him, he was also dyeing his hair. After all, he was too young to sport silver hair—one attributed to Yuri.Next to them was a young girl with a princess crown. She was so grumpy she was grumbling under her breath and sliding down her seat. However, when
The blonde woman snorted. “She’s not even sure about staying with him. Are you so desperate to marry you picked up a random woman, Wolfram?”“…” Wolfram continued to stay quiet. His gaze was not even stuck on anyone in particular.“Why do you always try to get my husband’s attention?” Delta turned to the woman. “Are you hoping to find someone more miserable than you? Leave him alone. You want him to come early, but this is all he hears. Perhaps he has good reasons to skip seeing you.”The woman lifted her brow. “And you behave like you’ll be here the next time we gather. Look here, pretty face. You’re not going to be Wolfram’s wife for so long. Women like you are like single-use table napkins—just good for one use and th
