CHAPTER ONE

ISABELLA’S POV

“Your mother’s condition is getting worse. She's going to need urgent surgery. We’re going to put her on the waitlist for now.” I blinked back the tears in my eyes as the doctor explained to me.

“Waitlist? You just said she needs urgent surgery. How can you put her on a waitlist? She needs to be treated now.” I tried to argue with him, my voice slightly cracked.

“I'm sorry but there’s nothing we can do. There are people with far worse conditions than hers.” He responded curtly.

My chest tightened.

“I can’t lose my mother, doctor.” I cried.

“I know. You can try out private hospitals. They would be able to give your mother the care she needs right away.”

The doctor sounded so nonchalant like we were just another name on a long list of tragedies he dealt with every day.

A low breath escaped my lips. “I can’t afford that.”

“I'm so sorry about that. Your mother will need to stay in the hospital for a while to make sure she’s stable. She will be discharged later.”

I took deep breaths to calm myself down. I thanked the doctor and went to check up on my mother.

Tears rolled down my face as I watched her on that bed lying on those white sheets. I wish I had the power to stop whatever pain she was going through.

I kissed her on the forehead and left the room.

As much as I wanted to be there with her, I had to work. After all, the bills wouldn’t pay themselves. I’d been saving up to get my mum better health care along with bills that also had to be paid.

I had to catch the bus really fast to get to work on time. I already got a text from my best friend saying the boss was asking for me. I told her that I would arrive soon. I missed the first bus so I had to wait for the second one. I got on it immediately it arrived.

I got off as soon as it stopped and had to run to the building. I went in through the back door and quickly changed into my work clothes. I went into the room and saw that the boss was addressing the rest of the girls.

“And where have you been, Isabella?” The boss asked as I was trying to sneak behind them.

“I had to see my mother at the hospital. I'm sorry, it won’t happen again.” I bowed my head in respect.

“You’ve been late throughout this week. This is your final warning. If you're late one more time, you’ll have to submit your uniform and never return.” He barked.

“Yes sir,” I said quietly.

“We’re done here. The other girls will fill you in.” He said before leaving the room.

I went to meet my best friend.

“Close call, girl.” She muttered. “I thought you would be fired. You're lucky.”

“Yeah, I am.”

“How’s your mum?” She asked.

“She needs surgery urgently but she's going to be put on the wait list. I need to take up more shifts and jobs to afford private health care for her.” I muttered.

“You’ve got this girl. I’ll help you if you want.” She offered.

“You don’t have to. I’ll do this by myself.” I replied, running my hand through my hair. “What was the meeting about?” I asked curiously.

“Oh. The boss basically informed us that some important guests would be coming today. We need to be on our best behavior.”

“Oh, that’s easy.” I shrugged.

We ended our conversation and went out to begin work. I’d been working at this club for over three years. That was when my mother's health deteriorated and I had to stop schooling so I could work and take care of her.

We were serving drinks to some of the regular customers when they walked in. We instantly knew it was them. The way my boss rushed to greet them was more than enough confirmation. He ushered them upstairs.

He needed someone to serve them and I was the only available one. I thought that he would find someone else because of my track record this week but surprisingly, he called me.

I went to the booth where they were sitting. “Good evening, what would you like me to get for you?” I asked.

Two men were sitting while about three men stood guard.

“A bottle of Hennessy XO, two glasses.” I wasn’t prepared to hear his voice. It took me aback.

“Yes, sir,” I said and left. I went to the storage room to get the drink. The boss handed me the keys to the storage room. I got the drink and went to the bartender.

“Haven’t seen anyone order this in a long time,” Gabriel said.

“I know.” I sighed. “They look expensive.”

“Oh, they are. Be careful not to drop anything. It could cost you your job.” He said and handed me the tray.

I took extra time going up the stairs. If I dropped the tray, I might as well kill myself. I walked cautiously to their booth and set the tray on the table.

“Here you go,” I said.

“Open it.” The man ordered me.

I nodded softly and opened the bottle. I had to be careful and I took a little bit of time because I hardly opened a drink like this. I smiled a bit when it finally opened. I looked over to him to confirm whether to pour the drinks and he gave me a small nod.

When I was done, I headed back downstairs with the tray in my hand. I dropped it back at the bar and headed into the room. My friend and some of the other girls were back there gossiping.

“What’s the chatter about?” I asked.

“Don't you know who that is?” One of the girls asked.

“No, who is he?”

They all gasped like I said something criminal.

“He's one of the richest men in this city. He has been in the US for a while now and he’s back now. Word has it that he’s part of the mafia.”

“Oh,” I murmured. I knew he was rich but I didn’t think he would be that rich.

The boss called my friend to serve those men again. A few minutes later, she ran back into the room.

“What is it?” I asked.

“He’s asking for you.” She breathed.

“Me?”

Why would he want me specifically to serve him again?

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTISABELLA’S POVAfter a whole day of staying at Adrian’s house, nothing felt familiar to me. The only person I felt connected to was Theo. He couldn’t stay in the house with Adrian and me, though. He went home with Vivian, Adrian’s mum. He had to go to school from there.According to Adrian, I also went back to school. I wanted to get my GED and go to college or study publishing. I’d only made it through my first day before having the accident that changed my life. Adrian still didn’t want to tell me what caused the accident. I didn’t know the details. He didn’t even give me my phone. He claimed it got destroyed in the accident. He refused to get me a new one too. I argued with him for almost an hour because of that. I suspected there was something he was hiding from me.I had only the TV and a few books to keep me company. I also spent my time exploring the house to see if I would remember anything. I also wanted to go outside for a while but Adrian kept

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENADRIAN’S POVI hadn’t gotten used to the fact that Isabella had lost most of her memories. It was a weird situation. All the plans I’d made for when she finally woke up were thrown out the window.I didn’t know how to act around her when she had no idea who I was anymore. I was praying that her memories would come back soon. I didn’t want to tell her anything. I was afraid of what her reaction would be if I told her instead of her remembering it from her own perspective.Apart from the dream she had where she was tied up, she hadn’t gotten any more flashbacks. She was finally getting discharged. I could tell she didn’t want to stay with me but I didn’t know why she chose me over my mum.We were all there to take her home. Me, Theo, Sebastian, and my mum.“Remember you have to take things slow. No strenuous activities and you need to come in for your follow-up appointments.” The doctor advised.Isabella nodded. “I will, doctor. Thank you.”“All the dischar

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXISABELLA’S POVI tried to wrap my head around everything the doctor was telling me but I still couldn’t believe it. According to him, I’d lost at least five years of my memory because of the accident I was involved in. An accident I barely remembered. The baby I thought I was pregnant with, I’d already given birth to him. I had a son named Theo. I was shown a picture of him and he looked exactly like Adrian.I was also on good terms with Adrian. The man I thought I would hate until the end of my life, I was apparently playing house with. I didn’t have a clue how any of that happened. How did I forgive him for what he put me through? The only person I wanted to see was Jess. Adrian said he already booked a flight for her and my mum to come and see me. I wanted to argue that my mum was sick and wouldn’t be able to come until I remembered that it was five years ago.“Will I regain my memories?” I asked the doctor.“That’s impossible to predict.” He answered.

An ache ran through my whole body. My head hurt the most.I tried opening my eyes again. It felt like there was a weight against them.“Isabella, can you hear me?” I heard the voice ask.I wanted to answer. The words didn’t leave my lips. I kept screaming in my head.“Isabella, if you can hear me, squeeze my hand.” The voice said again.I tried my best but my fingers barely moved.“She’s responding.” Another voice said. It sounded different from the last one.I wanted to ask where I was. I wanted to respond. I wanted to open my eyes but the darkness swallowed me again.———————————- ———————————Beep.Beep.Beep.The slow, consistent beeping found my ears. The light reached my eyes. They weren’t heavy anymore. CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURADRIAN’S POVImmediately Sebastian told me the news, we both rushed out of the office and got into the car. Sebastian drove us. I would have been behind the wheel but I’m pretty sure I would have caused another accident. The drive to the hospital was painfully long. Even though the AC was on, I was sweating profusely. We finally got to the hospital. I didn’t wait for the car to completely park before opening the door and dashing out of the car.I ran to the receptionist when I got inside.“Isabella Rodriguez.” I said. “She was brought in a few minutes ago.”“Mr Valentino.” I heard my name from the other side of the room. It was the chief of police.I ran to him. “Where is she?”“Calm down.” “Where is she? I want to see her. Is she okay?” I asked, trying to move in the direction he came from.“Calm down, Adrian.” Seb came behind me. “You’re asking too many questions at a time.”“Thank you.” The chief said go Sebastian. “Follow me.”We walked behind him un

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THREEADRIAN’S POVThere was no update for a few hours. The police had searched the entire property. The CCTV had captured them entering the house but didn’t capture them leaving. The only evidence that they left was the empty spot in the garage and the skid marks. It was an underground passageway. We were almost back to square one. They were going through the CCTV within the area but it was hard when we didn’t know what car we were looking for. I was beginning to lose hope again. What if he took her somewhere to kill her?My mum called me to the house again.“I’ve been waiting for the past 24 hours for you to call me and tell me Isabella has been found.” She said.“We haven’t found her, Mum.” I whispered. “We will. It’s only a matter of time.”“I’ve seen pictures of that Nathaniel guy on the internet. He’s the number one suspect. The photo released showed blood on him. I doubt Isabella looks any better than that.” “She’s fine. She’s going to be fine.”“I want
