"You know how much I hate you. Be prepared for the hell you will face if you dare to sign this marriage contract even once."

Svanna understood that she would never escape the dark images of life after deciding to leave California and returning to this horrible city.

There was no choice.

There were no good prospects that could save her from a desperate emergency. Nightroe had explained how the man still hated her so much after four years had passed. Four years filled with bad flashes, so much so that Svanna wished she no longer had perfect memories just to be drawn back to those painful dark times.

Her breath came in long gasps when she saw how Nightroe's broad shoulders were already out of sight behind the door of the house. How pathetic. The man had only come to warn her about something that was a complicated decision between them.

Svanna never expected that the offer of marriage on paper would lead to a perfect life. Nor was she sure if a pure bond could be such an incomprehensible idea. Nightroe would never put any feelings into her when the man himself was so hateful.

Svanna just didn't have a choice between continuing to consider the offer from Russol Sullivan or holding on for dear life to the remaining sanity that still hung on her shoulders. Things were still complicated. She needed a huge sum of money to pay for her father's treatment at the hospital. Couldn't find another way. Almost desperate after being fired for something she didn't do.

Bang!

A thunderous shot from outside made Svanna's body jerk. Fear immediately invaded her mind about the dangers around her. This was a dark world. She shouldn't be surprised by the situation as it was now.

Nightroe would inherit Russol Sullivan's leadership after marriage, and that man had just wandered into the place where she lived. It made perfect sense for a dangerous scene like this to occur.

Or maybe not.

Some clues in Svanna's mind seemed to tell her that there was something odd about the loud noise. Tentatively, she decided to take a step towards the door.

Perhaps Nightroe had a wild motivation towards the need to threaten her in a more frightening way.

"Nightroe, are you there?" Svanna swallowed roughly as the urgency within her pinned an unexpected alarm. The tension in the shoulders increased brutally when facing the need to touch the cold doorknob.

"Nightroe ...."

She was still so careful when the grip of the hand was so firmly there. The door of the house was only half-opened, and unexpectedly, a single bullet pierced the property of the house.

Svanna held her breath, but suddenly someone smothered her lips from behind. She struggled. It took almost all her strength to avoid any risk.

"Shut up!"

Not expecting that Nightroe was the alleged perpetrator. The man's grip was unusually strong as he pulled her back into the house, while the heavy gunfire in the open space was almost deafening.

"What happened?"

Svanna was still trying to understand the situation between them. A little incredulous that Nightroe... yeay, Nightroe... was willing to make physical contact with her. The man had always felt disgusted whenever there was an unexpected encounter since the incident four years ago changed everything.

"Hide where you feel safe."

Nightroe's freezing cold voice came to the surface after finishing with the activity of sniffing around. The man even immediately went to the window and made a simple shield while aiming the weapon through the small open gap.

Svanna realized that she should have obeyed Nightroe's order before he changed his mind and turned to shoot her dead. She was sure that was exactly what Nightroe wanted to do—just try to hold back, because her death would be easy, and the man did not want that prospect to happen at all.

A place where she felt safe....

Svanna would not deny that. She quickly ran towards the room, then crawled under the bed. This house was cramped—for God's sake. She had no choice, and there was no denying that the relevant memories of four years ago still felt so good.

Svanna covered both ears. The sounds were painful to hear, but she needed to wait until the silence no longer rumbled wildly around.

All done?

She wondered cluelessly, flinching slightly as someone's firm steps sounded closer and closer to her room.

The door opened, and the seduction of Nightroe's dark shoes felt so binding. Svanna wanted to rush out but was restrained when the man first looked down to find her face down.

Nightroe's face was so cold, especially the sapphire color of those eyes staring so intently. Svanna, not expecting to make a mistake, immediately took action to get out. She patted away the dust that might have stuck to her body after being in the same position and staying under the bed for so long.

Svanna raised her face as she stood facing Nightroe's towering body. "You protected me..." she said slowly.

There was nothing wrong with that statement, but in an instant Svanna found Nightroe's expression turning dark. The muscles on that stern face tightened violently. It looked like Nightroe didn't like it. She just wanted to thank you; was that wrong?

“You’d better leave, Orlando. I don’t want you two fighting,” Svanna said—still holding Nightroe back. She didn’t want him to suddenly attack and cause even more chaos.Thankfully, Orlando agreed to walk away. Svanna waited a few moments until the man’s shoulders were no longer in sight, only then releasing her grip on Nightroe.“How many times do I have to tell you... don’t let him get too close to you! What were you doing just now?”Nightroe’s deep voice was laced with accusation. Svanna was certain the man had clearly seen what she’d done; she’d merely straightened Orlando’s clothes—nothing more. Besides, aside from wanting to make her husband angry, she felt a small gesture of kindness could serve as a way to thank Orlando.“I did what I was supposed to do.”Nothing was wrong, but Nightroe’s reaction was truly excessive. The man growled as he closed the remaining distance between them. It felt like… Svanna was running out of ways to breathe easily—she could s

Again. A similar request from Yohana—deliberately asking Elisabeth to pass on the message that the woman wanted to meet Nightroe—was something that really bothered Svanna. She had seen for herself how exhausted Nightroe still was after leaving the night before to attend to some personal business. Svanna didn’t know exactly what personal business Nightroe was referring to, but she couldn’t stop him; because her husband would undoubtedly ask for extra time so they could have sex longer. So, she just stood by silently watching Nightroe prepare everything he needed; one of them... the knife he had sharpened in this room—though now, Svanna literally had to call it their room. She was fairly certain Nightroe had returned so late because she’d accidentally woken up to the faint sound he’d unconsciously made. Though… she’d decided to go back to sleep, as if nothing had happened. At this point…Svanna was faced with a dilemma—whether she should follow Nightroe’s departure to find out what Yoha

“I think it’s Alina.”That’s what she said—hoping Nightroe wouldn’t overreact. Though the man still looked so angry as he stepped aside briefly.Svanna hurriedly pulled the thick blanket over her naked body while waiting for Nightroe to get ready to meet whoever was out there. It didn’t take long. He just put his pants back on, then mmediately stepped out, bare-chested.“What?”The bedroom door swung open, accompanied by Nightroe’s deep voice, which still sounded annoyed.Nothing was wrong. Svanna merely frowned when she noticed the man’s expression briefly shift—before finally returning to its usual state: cold—as if he weren’t particularly interested in anything.“Why are you here?”Still in Nightroe’s deep voice. It indirectly piqued Svanna’s curiosity. One of her eyebrows shot up. Strange. He wouldn’t have asked if it were Alina outside. She glanced briefly at the nightstand—covered with a tray holding leftover dinnerware. Nightroe could have simply b

It took a moment just to process the situation around her. Svanna knew; she didn’t like Nightroe’s lecherous behavior, but she also didn’t want his attention—right now—to be diverted to another woman. She deliberately answered Yohana’s call and let the woman hear whatever she and Nightroe were doing.“Uh… Nightroe. Yeah, over here…”Maybe Nightroe was surprised to hear her voice suddenly sound like a moan. Svanna would have handled it better if that had actually been necessary. Good thing the man didn’t try to figure out the hidden motive she had.Instead... the man eagerly stripped away the remnants of Svanna’s nightgown—along with her sheer underwear—which had been forcibly torn off. She also had to hold her breath when Nightroe suddenly positioned himself half-reclined—still needing to lean against the headboard. Now… it was her legs’ turn to be spread wide. Svanna swallowed hard, watching every one of Nightroe’s movements. The man didn’t hesitate to bring his mou

Nightroe let out a growl; whether out of anger or because he felt deeply satisfied, she couldn’t tell. However, Svanna had to close her eyes due to the impact of anticipation as Nightroe’s large hand gripped her neck. His face was truly very close....“No matter what, you will never be my widow. Especially not while I’m still alive. Understand?” he said—deliberately making their lips touch. There was a protest Svanna wanted to voice; that she hadn’t expected Nightroe to reject the idea of divorce, but before she could even make a sound, he had already crushed her lips. Occasionally giving a bite—Svanna was sure they’d swell soon. Occasionally, she tried to push against Nightroe’s chest. The man was truly making it hard for her to breathe. Thankfully, Nightroe quickly understood and managed to pull away.Svanna saw this as a golden opportunity. She hurriedly pushed Nightroe’s body away completely. Now, she was sitting on her own, still trying to keep her distance.“I want to finish my

“Thank you, Alina. Would you like to stay and have dinner with me?”Svanna’s smile remained just as wide after receiving the dinner the woman had brought. However, it faded immediately when Alina shook her head slightly and said, “I’m sorry, Ms. I can’t. Mr. Nightroe just issued a rule that I can’t stay in your room for too long, except to pack.”Nightroe was going too far. Deliberately making things more complicated. Svanna sighed, unable to force Alina to stay. She didn’t want Nightroe to do something bad to the woman—or worse… to fire her.“Alright, you can go now,” she said, placing the tray on the nightstand. Now, she’d walk Alina to the door, and she’d lock herself in from the inside. They walked side by side. Alina mentioned she’d come back to get the rest of the tableware. Yeah, Svanna agreed to that. Now she’d be alone. Tentatively pushed the bedroom door, but suddenly…Someone’s hand stopped her.She froze the moment Nightroe’s cold face appeared uninvited. Svanna really di
