Morning light cuts through the bedroom windows at harsh angles.

I'm still wearing yesterday's clothes. Tyler's arms wrap around me, his chest against my back, his breathing deep. We fell asleep on top of the covers like exhausted soldiers.

My neck throbs where he bandaged the claw marks. My hip aches. But those pains fade compared to the war in my chest.

I'm falling for Tyler Raxon Raven.

I admitted it last night. Out loud.

He admitted it back. Sort of.

"It's the closest I've come to it in twelve years." Not "I love you." Not even "I'm falling for you." Just an acknowledgment that what he feels resembles love.

It shouldn't be enough.

But it is.

Tyler's arm tightens around my waist, pulling me closer. His face burrows into my hair, and he inhales deeply. Scent marking me even in sleep.

"You're thinking too loud," he murmurs against my neck.

"I'm not thinking at all."

"Liar." His lips brush the shell of my ear. "I can feel your pulse racing."

"That's not thinking. That's panic."
