"No, I'm sorry but I can't let you in," the stony-faced castle guard at the gate said. "Excuse me?" I asked, brows inching up to almost my hairline, "What do you mean by that? This is my home. It's me, Renee, Levi’s wife” If I was expecting the man to suddenly start apologizing and opening the gates, I was sorely disappointed. He stared at me with irritation, "We have clear orders from his highness not to let you in. And to remove you through any means necessary if you try to defy his orders” Shock rendered me speechless for a few moments, "No. This is impossible! It has to be a mistake. Call Levi. Or Rosalie, even the maids. They will confirm that I'm supposed to be in there" "You're creating a scene. You are not supposed to be in there” "And I'll continue to create one till this mistake has been cleared up," I said desperately. It had to be a mistake. The guard had to have gotten me mixed up with someone else. Even as I assured myself with those words, a strange feeling had began to settle in the pit of my stomach and there was an awful niggling in my head. Something was wrong. Something was really really wrong. "What's all the noise about?" Rosalie's high-pitched voice snapped. I glanced through the bars of the high gate and saw her approaching in a black skin-tight leather jump suit and high heels. She looked even more sexy and breathtaking than usual, but there was a cruel smirk on her mouth that was foreign on her face. "Rosalie," I let out a breath of relief, "I'm so glad you're here. I woke up at the healing home and you weren't there” She unlocked the gate and to my surprise, she stepped out and latched it behind her, "What are you doing here, Renee?" "what do you mean by that? This is my home” Her face screwed up in an expression of disgust, "Your home? You're mistaken. You don't have a home. You're a penniless, street rat with a hideous face who should have been put down like a dog years ago” I staggered back as the force of her words hit me and I rushed to brush my long hair forward to cover the left side of my face which had the majority of the scarring. Suddenly, I felt like the me of a year ago again. The Renee who had walked around with her head down, weak, terrified and miserable. "Wh-what are you saying? This isn't you? Where's my husband?” I felt the sting as her knuckles smashed against the side of my face, knocking me down to the ground and ridding me of my words. "Don't you dare call him yours. Levi is mine!" She snarled, "Do you know how disgusting it was to watch you everyday stare at him with your moony eyes? How humiliating it was to pretend to be his friend? You can't imagine what I've been through for the past year while a hideous creature like you wrapped her hands around my man repeatedly in my presence” My mind was trying and failing to compute what I was hearing and seeing. My husband was her man? How was it possible? "You're lying! Why are you lying? Stop being so cruel” Her eyes flared with hatred, "shut up! I feel like throwing up just looking at you. How could you ever think that an heir, good looking man like Levi would ever, ever, stoop so low as to pick an interest in you and marry you? How delusional of you” Something caught my eye over her shoulder and I looked past her to see my husband leaning against the a pillar, puffing on a cigarette. Since when did he start smoking? Had everything I had known about him been a lie? "Why did you do this?" I screamed at him, "If I was so disgusting to you, you should have just left me alone to continue my suffering!” He rolled his eyes and tossed his cigarette to the floor, "Stop wasting time, love. Get rid of her” "No!" I screamed, trying to scramble to my feet, and race after him, "I love you. Please don't do this. Don't break the last pieces of my heart. I'm your wife, your mate! You felt the bond too didn't you? Our bond!" Letting out an annoyed growl, Rosalie caught my hair in her hands and yanked me back. I screamed, falling back to the ground. She stared down at me with amusement, "You're not his wife, bitch," she raised her hand to showcase a heavy diamond ring sparkling on her fingers, "I'm his wife. His true mate! You didn't feel any bond, you were only convinced you felt something because he is handsome and he gave you butterflies! We were married long before you came into the picture. And I'll continue to be his wife long after you leave the picture. The marriage documents you signed were all fabricated, the vows, all lies!” Tears streamed down my eyes freely, blurring my vision and I felt my stitched together heart rip all over again. I had been played for a fool, and it was all my own fault for having big dreams and hopes. "My child," I whispered, "Just give me my child and I'll leave" Rosalie threw her head laugh and a peal of laughter tore out of her painted red lips, "You should really have died in that home. I had a feeling you would be trouble” The words I had thought had been from a horrible dream echoed through my head, 'Leave the bitch to rot' It hadn't been a nightmare after all. "I just want my child," I sobbed. Laughing, she turned to the guards standing behind her, "Finish her off" Before I realized what was happening, kicks and punches were raining down on me from every direction. I screamed and sobbed and begged till I couldn't do them anymore, and then I curled into a ball on the ground and prepared to die. "Ugly little monster," Rosalie hissed, "I'm doing you a favor by ending your miserable existence. There's nothing left for you anyways" And then she bent to her knees and reached for my hair. "No, please," I croaked weakly as I felt the first snip, my long hair falling off my head as Rosalie sliced through it, ignoring my weak pleas. "And as a parting gift," she drawled, voice full of delight. A burn of pain ripped through my face as she dragged the sharp tip of the scissors down the unscarred side of my face, engraving a thick line from my hairline down to my jaw. I screamed in pain as blood began to pour down my pain. "Rest in pieces, Renee" I lay there, feeling my life slip away, too drained to even cry. I may have lived my whole life with a horribly scarred face and been branded a monster, but that day, I realized that there were people worse than monsters.Roman“What the hell is going on here?” I yelled at the workers who seemed startled by my presence.“Your highness!” One of them bowed his head as he continued working without even trying to hide it.“What are you doing on my land?” I growled with anger.“Prince Levi hired us…” I didn't wait for him to finish speaking, I began storming off to look for him. Levi was messing with me.And not quite long, I found him near the training grounds, surrounded by a few members of our clan, his posture loose, arrogant as ever, a cup in his hand as if the world had not shifted off its axis. As if my beast wasn’t clawing me apart from the inside out.The moment I saw him, something in me snapped. My wolf surged forward, teeth bared, rage blazing hot and bright. It took everything in me not to shift on the spot.“Levi”He didn't move.I stalked toward him, each step felt heavy, deliberate, like the calm before an execution.“Levi” I called out to him again after he had ignored my question and tu
Renee“What are you doing here?” Rosalie didn't seem pleased to see me, as her eyes narrowed, her mouth pulled into a thin line, and she stared at me with disapproval. After everything with Roman, I didn't wait around, not for him. I took matters into my own hands“I thought I would come say hi” I plastered a fake smile on my face. She scoffed “You're not welcome to stay in this house”I proceeded to feign hurt and surprise. “Why? Why is that? It's been almost three weeks since we last saw each other. I thought the two of us could...” My voice trailed off, but my words weren't lost on her. “My husband is out of reach!” She snapped. Her face turned red, and I noticed beads of sweat glistening on her forehead as her temper flared even more.I swallowed hard. “Rosalie, I am not here for your husband. I just thought we could catch up, as sisters-in-law do. It doesn't have to mean anything. We both love our husbands. Don't you?” I pleadedShe stared at me for a while as if debatin
Unknown POVI hated him. He always acted like he was better than everyone else, but he was only just lucky. Yet it didn't stop him from raising his shoulders as if he was perfect. His flaws that were visible as neon lights were easily overlooked and it pissed me off even more.I wanted to tear him down, I wanted to show them his flaws, to show them how ugly he was but man was I wrong. If I thought I was fast, he was faster and if I thought I was smart, he was smarter. I was always second best. I didn't stand a single chance. So I withdrew into my shell and then I began to plan ways I could hurt, and bring him total misery. I didn't want to see him happy.I remember the first time I saw her. I didn't know she was with him and when I eventually did, I remembered how I watched them from afar, that night, it was the first time I was seeing her that close.Red.That was the color of her dress.Red like flames dancing in fire. Like a sea of rubies reflecting the moonlight. Like a firestorm
RomanMy eyes lingered on her lips, her breath fanned my face and I almost gave into the temptation of leaning closer. But I did the unexpected. I shoved her out.I shoved her right out, and I expected her to give up but Celestria was stubborn, she returned some hours later. “I brought you soup,” She said as she stood in front of my door, holding a tray at the same time giving me a scrutinizing look. I knew what it meant. She wanted to know if I was okay or not. I couldn’t blame her for that either. I was pretty sure I wasn’t supposed to do a lot of things. My body ached from the anger I still felt and what was worse than the shame that came after vulnerability? I had always promised myself that I would be strong for my mother but I wasn't.Yet I couldn't explain the exhaustion settled into an easy slumber. It had taken a long time to fall asleep last night. The nightmares were never as bad, but they would make it hard for me to get enough rest.“Can I at least come in?”asked Celest
ReneeI thought we were having an honest conversation, I didn't mean to upset him but he left.He didn't come back for me so I took myself home. After I got back home, he still wasn't back, the guards said they hadn't seen him. Yet fifteen minutes, the door slammed open and he stood there, panting and staring at me like it was a crime scene for all of ten seconds before collapsing on the couch next to me with an exhausted sigh. He looked terrible. His hair was sticking up wildly in every possible direction and I wondered if I should get him some aspirin. Or maybe a glass of water. “Are you… are you alright?” He didn't respond, instead, his eyes flickered back and forth between me and the clock, trying to determine what I couldn't understand. Then he buried his face deeper into the sofa cushions and groaned, “Fuck!”He said fuck, like the most amazing thing he had ever heard. Maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part, but as soon as I heard him use such a word, the whole situa
RomanAfter we left my father’s Celestria seemed possessed by something, she kept staring at me and even when I caught her looking, she didn’t look away like she normally would.“What?”She didn’t answer, instead she kept staring at me as if she was trying to dissect me with her eyes, and I just stared back, feeling conscious and uncomfortable under her probing eyes and I didn’t want her looking at me like this any more than she already was. “You…” She trailed off as if deciding to say what she wanted to say or not. “Nothing”’ is what I guess she eventually settled on saying, which was better than nothing, but she didn’t sound satisfied with it. It didn’t quite satisfy me either, but that would have to do for now.“Okay” I said. The word fell out of my mouth before I had even thought about what I was going to say.I stood up from the bed “Where are you going?” Her voice followed me and I turned back to her, surprised that she'd question something so mundane as where to go.“I'm gon
Roman I knew women, I had been with way too many of them to know them like the back of my hand but she was different and it was all so confusing. I sent a maid to call her down for breakfast. “Your highness, she says she isn't hungry” The maid avoided my eyes, and that told me that those weren'
Renee “Let me in! I need to see Roman!” I yelled, stamping my feet against the cold concrete steps that lead down to the front entrance of the building as an icy breeze blew through the gaps between my fingers and up my arms. This place was chilly like its owner. The guards stared at me as if I
ReneeThere was no way my head could have made up such words, I know I wasn't dreaming, he couldn't possibly be telling me such. “What?” I stared at the man in front of me with cold eyes . “The hell are you talking about now?” My mouth felt drier than a desert. The only thing that was keeping me s
