“You will not be eating dinner. Go and get your sister here this instant.” Every servant lowered their head. Even Father silently continued eating. No one questioned Mother. I gulped. My gaze narrowed on the delicacies—rich aroma of roasted chicken Filled the air. My mouth watered even more, perhaps because I knew I wouldn’t even get a taste. “But Mom, I haven’t eaten all day.” “Nonsense. As the lady of the pack, you need to maintain your figure. The wedding is in a few days, and I will not have you looking like a buffoon in that wedding dress. You belong to the Nightshade Pack and must not bring shame to us.” “Yes, Mother.” At this point, I had lost count of how many times she had said those words—over and over again. “You belong to the Nightshade Pack. Everything you do must be for the pack.” I had accepted my fate a long time ago. It was my duty. I would always remind myself of that. “I’m starving…it hurts.” My wolf, Fifi, whimpered inside my head as I climbed up the stairs. “Mom has us on a strict diet. We cannot disobey her.” Fifi only growled, but then she turned silent. I sighed. I hated it when we fought, but what choice did I have? When I reached the hallway, I noticed something was wrong. The air felt too quiet—almost deserted. Servants were always roaming around the hallway. The place always felt alive. But now it was different. A chill prickled my skin when I heard a sound—sharp, like a moan of ecstasy. That was when I noticed my room door was open. I clearly remembered locking it before leaving for my morning duties. “I sense our mate—” Alpha Kale? No, Kale told me he had training with his betas. “Oh, yes…” The voice came louder, and my heart stuttered. My eyes started to burn. Even though my heart was trying not to accept it, the moment I reached my room, there was nothing left to hide. My mate was cheating on me… with my younger sister, Iva. “What is going on here?” The words came out in a tiny whisper, even though I tried to scream. They pulled away from each other. My empty stomach lurched at the smell of their sex and sweat. I swallowed the gag before it could roll out. “You weren't supposed to find out like this. This…” Kale, my mate, fumbled through his words. One hand raked through his hair as his eyes fixed on me with confusion. I was only eighteen when I found my wolf, and that day the Moon Goddess brought me Alpha Kale. He wasn’t the sweetest, but he was mine. “Kale, our mating ceremony is in three days… and you’re sleeping with my sister on my bed.” Iva’s voice came out in a soft whisper. “Alpha Kale said it turns him on doing it here.” My heart stopped. This wasn’t the first time they had been here—in my room, sleeping together in my bed. Fifi howled in contempt and pain as we stared at Kale, who couldn’t bear to look at us. I hated him for doing this, but worse, I hated my sister who always had to take everything from me. For the first time, I did something unthinkable. I slapped my sister. Hard. Everything froze. Including me. I had never hurt anyone, even though I was a werewolf. Blood itself was enough to make me nauseous. Violence was even worse. A tear slipped from my eyes as I stared at my palm. “Oh, Moon Goddess.” Kale shoved past me and went to my sister. “Iva, are you okay?” he said with the kind of softness I had always wished he would use toward me. Iva burst into tears and grabbed Kale’s arm. “It hurts. I told you we shouldn’t have done this. Now my sister is mad at me.” Hearing her say “sister” felt like an insult. Kale glared at me, his flaming red eyes ignited with fury. “How dare you touch my wolf…” Whack! My hand moved again before I could stop it. Kale went blank. I trembled but held myself together. How could I hit him?” No—he deserved it, and so did that bitch, Fifi growled. Kale scoffed and rubbed his hand over his face, trying to ease the sting. “Did an omega just hit me? Do you have any idea what your actions could cause for Iva? She’s pregnant, for Moon’s sake!” “I’m done dealing with your crap. I was only with you because the Moon Goddess forced this bond on me. Otherwise, why would I want to spend my life with a filthy omega?” Kale had never spoken to me like that before. Now, because of my sister, he… I sniffed, realizing there was no use crying. It was obvious he had never loved me. Not even once. “Reject him. He doesn’t deserve us,” Fifi growled. She was trying to be brave for both of us, but I could hear the ache in her voice. “Women always listened. They never led. They followed their alpha.” My mother would always say that. But why should I keep listening to a man who had no regard for our mate bond? So I forced my spine straight, even as a tear escaped. “Iva, Mom and Dad always gave you everything, but you always seem to want everything that belongs to me. Fine. I’ll give him to you.” “Sis, please.” Iva went down on her knees, her eyes glistening with fake tears. “It… it’s a mistake. I didn’t mean for this to happen,” she begged. But her eyes told another story. They lit up with that familiar victorious gleam she always had when she won. Kale yanked Iva up and scolded her for begging me. I reached for the jewelry Kale had given me—his pack heirloom. A priceless jewel meant only to be worn by his Luna. I breathed deeply, remembering how my stomach had fluttered the day the mate bond snapped into place, despite the humiliation of discovering my wolf was an omega after years of waiting. Kale had told me my wolf was beautiful and placed the necklace on me. Ripping it off now felt like a knife plunged into my gut. Shutting my eyes, I tossed the necklace at Kale. He didn’t notice at first because he was too busy with Iva. Then I strode closer. That was when he looked up and saw me. “I, Fiona Wong of the Nightshade Pack…” Kale’s face went pale as he frowned and tightened his grip around Iva. “Fiona, what are you doing?” The words made my lips quiver. I clenched my fist. Fifi howled inside my head, her strength coiling in my stomach. “Reject you as my—” Just before I could finish, footsteps approached and my mother’s voice rang out. “What’s going on here?”Fiona’s POV“There is no relationship between us,” I said, making sure to keep my voice and breathing steady.Any mistake and my mother would notice. Nothing got past her sharp wolf senses. Both of her hands found the sides of the table. She tilted her head, a smile slowly spreading across her face. “Is that the truth?”“Yes. We have no relationship. He was just helping me today.”“Helping you?” She scoffed. “I'd find that hard to believe.”“It’s the truth.”“Fiona, do you think I’m a fool?”“Only you can answer that question,” I mumbled, but loud enough for everyone to hear it.Her face grew darker as her mouth pressed into a thin line.“Fiona, that is no way to speak to your mother,” Dad groaned from his seat.He never spoke unless it was to aid my mom or give one of the most ridiculous suggestions. “What else do you want me to say?”“Don’t you dare raise your voice at us, young lady.” My mom stepped in, her finger pointed at me.“Do you think I don’t see the way he looks at you?”

Fiona’s POVSay those words, Fiona, I told myself. And all of this would be over. But no matter how hard I tried, the words wouldn’t come out.And he noticed. His eyes lowered to my lips as his mouth curved into a smile.“See? You can’t. Because deep down, you know how you feel… even if you won’t admit it.”“I don’t feel anything,” This time he grinned. His lips brushed mine softly, hesitantly, like he was giving me every chance to pull away.“Liar,” he said.I hated the way he saw through me even before I said anything. And my heart—it raced treacherously, even though it shouldn’t.“You wanted to leave… you can.”And then he pulled away from me.I found my breath. Barely.I reached for the door. My hands trembled as goosebumps crawled through me, rushing up to my neck.Just before I could open it, his hand found the door, and then his warmth hit my back. His chest pressed against the curve of my spine, and his chin lowered until it was touching the crook of my neck.“Even if you ca
Fiona’s POV“Lord Isaiah?”How did he get here?«Little wolf, I just saved your life. What do I get in return?»My chest only tightened as I watched his lips press into a smile. He wasn’t saying anything out loud, but I could hear his voice clearly in my head.I didn’t want to think too much about it. I turned my eyes toward the rack. It was tilted on the floor as though someone had intentionally shoved it aside. My eyes traced upward until I was staring at Isaiah.“You saved me.”«Again,» he added.“Sis, are you alright?”My eyes rolled as Isaiah helped me stand. His mouth brushed near my ear this time. His breath tasted like fruit, and a deadly temptation made my skin flush.«Should I kill her for you?»I pushed away from his chest. The more I did, the more he grinned.God, he was getting increasingly insufferable.“Sis, are you alright?” Before she could get closer, I avoided her grip. She froze when she caught a glimpse of the man beside me.Her face went white. “Lord… Isaiah?”“W
