“Are you done with your project?” Luna asked me as soon as our Literature Instructor exited the room.
I shut down my laptop and gather my things into my bag before facing her. She’s sitting on the chair in front of me with the pen dancing on her fingers. I massaged my neck and my eyes landed on Akira who’s furiously typing on his laptop. Lucas is sitting beside him, dictating from the book.
“Yes.” I stare at Luna to stop myself from staring at Akira. He’s like a magnet and my eyes are drawn to him every time.
After he disappeared from the hospital, I didn’t hear anything from him—not that I want to hear something from him.
“Wow. I’m not yet done.” She scratched her nose as her eyes landed on the boys across us in the room. Akira frantically rocks his leg while Lucas focused on the book. Whenever he reads fast, Akira will click his tongue and close his fist like he wants to punch Luc right in the face.
“You need help?” I asked her while I duck on my seat to reach the bag of my laptop.
“Gee, thanks. I just need to reread it and I’m done. I have practice this afternoon but do you want to watch a movie tonight?”
I don’t remember how many times did Luna tried to ask me out and have fun with them and every time she does, I always find a way to turn her down. Not that I don’t want to spend time with her, I’m just uncomfortable going around.
“I think I’ll pass. I need to study for our exam.”
Luna grunted in her seat. “Oh! Come on, Roux. We don’t have a class tomorrow. We basically are three weeks away from exam week. It’s my birthday today. You didn’t even greet me.”
I suddenly felt bad. I really don’t know that it’s her birthday. But that doesn’t mean I’ll go with her tonight. She is standing in front of me, her eyes twinkling like she’s anticipating that I’ll say yes.
“I’ll give you my gift on Wednesday.”
The smile on her face slowly turned into a frown.
“Wow, you’re so heartless.” Looking so disappointed, she stormed out of the room. Lucas and Akira turned to me when they see her leaving.
“What happened to her?” Lucas asked me but I didn’t say anything.
I took my things and went straight to the botanical garden, waiting for Luna’s text. She can’t last a day without texting me before lunch.
I took out the sandwich I packed this morning. Before I can even take a bite, Luna’s upset face flashed in my brain. Luna’s a great friend. I may not show it but I hate to see her sad. She’s been my first friend in this school. She’s annoying sometimes but she did a lot of things for me. She’s actually sweet and I don’t want her to think I’m just using her for my own good.
I heave a sigh and took my phone out. I contemplated many times before I type a message.
Me: Luna, I’m sorry.
Me: Hey, I didn’t mean to
Me: I’ll let Yuan know if I can crash at your place tonight. I can’t promise but I’ll try.
After few seconds, my phone vibrated, showing Luna’s message.
Luna Chase: OMG, you’re the best! I’ll pick you up after practice. Xx
I heave a sigh and finish my sandwich.
After putting my things in my locker, I went to the Infirmary and found Yuan playing on his iPad. He immediately rushed to me when he saw me by the door, his calm face turning worried in an instant.
“You’re not feeling well?” he asked as he checks on my forehead.
“I’m good.” I sat on one of the beds and Yu followed me. He raised his brow, urging me to speak. “Today is Luna’s day.”
“Happy birthday to her.”
I rolled my eyes.
“She wants me to stay at their house tonight.” I started.
“Like, sleepover?” he asked.
I nodded.
“You’re asking permission?” he smiles.
“Yes.”
He shrugged and went back to his chair and iPad. “Okay. Just call me when you need me.”
I stare at him in disbelief. When he saw my reaction, he creased his brow then asked, “What?”
I kicked on the air. “You’re supposed to say ‘no’.”
I scowled, which made him laugh. Wow, he dares to find this situation comical.
“You’re unbelievable.” I chided. “Why can you let me go like that?”
“Why, no. You’re seventeen already. I’ve been waiting for you to act like a normal teenager, sis. Don’t get me wrong. You don’t have to lock yourself in your room forever. Besides, you are the one who’s eager to go out of your comfort zones. I trust Luna. Just don’t smoke nor drink. You get me?”
I left the room in annoyance. Wow. Yesterday he won’t even let me out of the hospital and now he’s practically shoving me away.

When I attended our afternoon class, Luna is back to her usual self. She’s sitting beside Lucas while Akira is seated beside the last empty chair in the room.
Without paying too much attention to the student who’s presenting his report in front of the class, I silently walked towards the chair—just beside Akira.
He put a copy of the presentation on my desk and winked at me. My initial reaction is to cringe. Then the face of the boy flashed into my mind. I look back at Akira who’s now busy reading his handouts and a realization hits me.
No, no, no. There’s no way he’s that boy.
Sadoche It’s already raining when I reached Kori’s house. Since I’m already drenching, I throw my bag on the porch and stayed under the rain. It’s already dark, the only light outside is the flash of lightning in the sky. The rain will not stop anytime soon so I lie on my back, feeling the cold concrete. I stare blankly at the roaring sky, not minding the painful drops of rain. I heard the front door opened but I’m too tired to care. I closed my eyes, feeling the cold, hard ground. The rain is still pouring but I’m suddenly not feeling the raindrops. When I opened my eyes, Kori’s face comes into view. “What on earth are you doing there, boy?” he asked, he looks like a grim reaper on his black coat. “Get up, dummy. You’re going to catch a cold.” He pulled me up and basically dragged me inside the house. He threw a towel on my face and went into the kitchen. I was able to strip on my clothes and cover my waist wit

It’s just a sleepover why are you packing a lot?”I snatched from Yuan the clothes he’s putting in a duffel bag. I packed just enough clothes inside my backpack and my medicines.“You might need—fine, fine.”He let go of the bag just when the doorbell rings. Luna called me this afternoon that Lucas will pick me up because she’s still preparing for their house. Yuan walked out of my room to get the door.“Roux! Your friends are here!” Yuan shouted from the living area.I heave a sigh and carry my backpack downstairs. I don’t know what to wear to a slumber party so I settled for leggings and an oversized jacket. Yuan is ta
Sadoche There’s something wrong with her. The way she stares at the candles says it all and when Luna blew them, Roux finally loses it. Luna and Lucas were oblivious of her but I saw how her pupils dilate like she’d seen a ghost. I kneel beside her, putting a safe distance since she freaks out whenever someone touches her. She’s staring at nothing like she’s in a trance. “Roux,” I called her but it seems like she can’t even hear me. Lucas puts the cake down on the table while Luna watches her in horror. “Oh my God, what’s happening to her?” she asked like I know the answer. “Roux.” I snapped a finger on her face but she suddenly started kicking. Lucas pulled Luna away from her since she got kicked on her stomach. Lucas runs for the lights but Roux kept on kicking the air like she’s trying to get away from something—or someone. She managed to knock out the plates an
Sadoche “Are you sure about this?” I looked at Aki who is still busy buttoning his shirt—my shirt. “I just want to see Mom’s reaction when she sees us. Today I’ll be Kirian and you’ll act like me. I just want to give myself a break. You’re a lucky bastard, you get to stay with her while I’m stuck with Granny.” I heave a sigh and adjusted the collar of his hoody he threw at me. Dad died when we were young, and our grandparents decided to split the two of us. Aki spent his life in the countryside with Mom’s parents while I lived the City life with Mom. Gramps passed away two years ago, leaving him with Granny alone. “Of course, she’ll notice. Whose parents can’t ev
The classes were suspended because of the storm. I haven’t talked to Lucas nor Luna after that night. I haven’t heard about Akira, either. It’s been three days since I last saw them. Kori visited me yesterday, asking me what else I remember. Yuan knocked on my room but I made no move to answer. When he entered, he sat on the edge of my bed. “Are you okay?” he asked. “You haven’t eaten your breakfast.” “I’m not hungry.” I glanced at my window. Raindrops slap on the glass, leaving blurred marks on it. Yuan didn’t comment on the fact that I basically clung onto Akira that night. The wounds on my hands were almost healing, leaving another ugly scar on my skin. No touching has been the first rule I set myself but Akira’s touch is unexplainably felt like a freaking refuge. “Mom and Uncle Ronan will be back on Monday.” He announced. I never knew who our real father is. Mom married Ronan when I was three and since then, he insis
“Are you sure you want to go to school?” Yuan asked for the nth time. He’s standing at my doorway, wearing his baby blue long sleeves and fitted trousers that make him look more of a model than a doctor. He looks a hell of handsome but his eyes tell it that he haven’t slept since my revelation yesterday.“I want a life, Yu. I’m suffocating in my own room already. I’m good, okay?” I am if you’re going to ignore the fact that I'm NOT.He heaved a sigh and took my bag from me as we both navigate our way to his car.The trip to the school is awkward. He didn’t say a word but I know there’s a lot of things he wants to ask. I never saw him break down like yesterday. He’s the cool one yet he cried for me and I know he would take away my pain if he could.Luna texted me that she’s in the Principal’s office, having a meeting with her Mom. Yuan walked
"What's taking you so long?" Yuan barged into my room while I'm putting my laptop in my bag. I glanced at him and check the time on the digital clock on my table. It's only 6:00 in the morning and our class starts at 8:00 am. My brows creased and gave him an annoyed glare. "As far as I remember, my class starts in two hours. I have plenty of time." I continue packing my things and putting everything I can put in my bag. "Ah-huh." he nodded in agreement and rest his shoulder at the door frame, "I'm well aware of that, genius. Someone's waiting for you downstairs so might as well hurry up, yes?" Before I can even compre
KirianLuna threw one of her fries at me. It hit my nose and dunk straight to the glass of iced tea I’m sipping.“The heck?” I pushed away from the glass and took her yet untouched Slurpee. Lucas is busy consuming his giant burger to care about his girlfriend’s upcoming death. Luna smiled maliciously at me.“You like her. Admit it already.” she probed.“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I sip noisily at the Slurpee intending to annoy her.“Eww, where're your manners, Sadoche?” she rolled her eyes, “Don’t pretend you don’t know. You always look at Roux like she’s one of your greatest possession.”I pick lettuce in my burger and waved it in front of her. She backed away, shielding herself with her small hands, too afraid for me to throw it to her. Lucas, being the pig-like he is, took the lettuce
