Getting into the palace was a whole different vibe for Ophelia.

Immediately she stepped into the palace, she got a different feeling. She couldn’t tell what it was, but it seemed okay.

Clearly, Ophelia was the strongest among them all who were bought. The rest of them were weak from the chain binding and from walking around.

Ophelia had just joined the previous night and didn’t get chained.

As they walked into the palace, the selected ten couldn’t stop looking at Ophelia.

They felt she was l

All the girls did after the introduction was bond. Talk, talk, talk.New items were brought in almost every two hours. When it was time for dinner, they went to the kitchen, and got their food from the person in charge of the servant meals, and then retired to their room to have their meal. “So tell me, has it always been like this?” Gina suddenly threw the question at Ophelia.“Been like what?” Ophelia squinted her eyes in confusion.“Have you always been favored because of your looks?” Gina made it clearer. “Oh, that!” Ophelia released a small smile.“Yeah. And how does it feel?” “Not really. I mean people always commend me and I get compliments wherever I go, sometimes I am being asked not to pay for an item I bought, or I am given more worth than what I paid for by men and women, mostly men. But I don’t really get favors, because I am not always in a space like that; my father made sure of it. This is the first time I am experiencing something like this.” Ophelia explained.“T

Ophelia, Gina, and Tim walked behind Matron Dorcas as she led them to the main palace. The two guards were still behind them. They walked silently, without saying a word to each other. The joy in their hearts was overwhelming; they wouldn’t mind if they had to be mute for the rest of their lives. They were finally going to the main palace. They finally got to the main palace, the servants' entrance precisely. They were not allowed to use the main palace door for any reason. And this servant's entrance was the closest to the pavilion, since it was located at the back of the main palace. And the pavilion was in the backyard.Getting into the palace entrance, there were two passageways. One led to the huge royal kitchen, and the other led to the main palace itself. The two guards had already left them when they got to the servant’s entrance; it was just Matron Dorcas and the three newly recruited servants.Matron Dorcas took her time to explain their duties to the three of them. “Oh, Ophelia.” Miss Bertha smiled. “She is one of our new intake.” “I knew it, because I’m so sure she wasn’t here last year when I came.” Matron Dorcas said.“No she wasn’t.” Miss Bertha shook her head.“How is she?” Matron Dorcas inquired.“She’s been good so far. She’s a nice person and also listens to instructions very well.” Miss Bertha made sure to put in good words for Ophelia. She didn’t know why the Matron was asking, but she knew it was something nice; she hoped for the best.“How long has she been in the palace?” “Uhmm, two weeks.” Miss Bertha replied calmly.“That’s too small.” Matron Dorcas sighed; the disappointment was clear in her tone.“I wanted to take her to the palace with me.” She said casually, shocking Miss Bertha.“At the last banquet, the Empress told me she wasn’t impressed with the female servants I assigned to the banquet hall. She then told me that she wants to see beautiful servants during the next banquets to come, so other kingdoms would not think th

The next morning, almost everyone was up earlier, even before the sound of the horn. Normally, the horn sounded like a big disturbance to them. But that day, they were wide awake before the sound of the horn.Ophelia too was up as well, but wasn’t doing anything. She just sat up on her mat watching the femaleswho were old enough to be picked, run in and out of the lake. Out of the ten of them in the room, there were just about four who were not old enough to be picked. The rest of them were all busy preparing, including Collette.Every one of them looked their best that morning; everyone was trying to outshine each other. The same way the preparation was going on in the female quarters, so it was in the male quarters. Everyone badly wanted to get into the main palace.Looking at them, it was so sad to know that so many of them were gonna be heartbroken and disappointed before the end of the day. The palace needed just three people, and more than a hundred people were getting read

Ophelia got back to her room that night and found it difficult to sleep. She just lay on her mat, turning from side to side.Collette, who had been watching her for a long time, finally decided to ask her what the problem was. “Ophelia are you fine?” She asked calmly from where she lay on her mat. “Yes, yes I am,” Ophelia replied carelessly, not even bothering to look at her.“Are you sure?” She asked further. And then, Ophelia sat up on her mat.Seeing that, Collette also joined her and sat up too.“Collette I wanna ask you something,” Ophelia spoke softly.“What’s that?”“The main palace, what’s it like?” Ophelia suddenly asked, causing Collette to give her a funny stare.“What did Miss Bertha tell you?” Collette asked in between laughs.“I’m serious, Collette. Just answer the question if you know it.” Ophelia said in an intense tone, no atom of laughter on her face. And only then did Collette know she was really serious about it.“Alright, what do you wanna know?” College sigh

Two days after the incident, Miss Bertha finally decided it was time to speak to Ophelia. She felt it was the right time and Ophelia would listen to her.She had let Ophelia be since the incident and had not even said a word to her about it. Ophelia wondered why she hadn't heard anything from Miss Bertha. She had been expecting Miss Bertha to send for her, or even scold her openly one of these days. Ever since the incident, Ophelia’s view and the way she moved about the pavilion, changed. People didn’t want to associate with her; only very few people did. They would rather wait for hours to get a response, or whatever it was, from someone else than speak with Ophelia. So many of them were out of pure spite, while some of them were out of fear of being fired next. Whichever way it was, the isolation was obvious. The side talk never went down; it seemed like it grew every day. Ophelia could not pass through somewhere without hearing her name or her business from someone. And they wer
