Mag-log inCHAPTER FOUR:
RECLAIMING WHAT'S HERS.
Lyra tried to speak but couldn't form words. She just stared at her daughter, memorizing every detail of her face.
"Did we make you sad?" Aiden added, his voice worried.
"We didn't mean to."
Something in their voices, some instinct they couldn't name, made them gentle with her despite their fear.
It was the blood bond calling to them even if they didn't understand it.
"No, sweet ones," Lyra managed to whisper. "You could never make me sad. You make me..." Her voice broke.
"You make me so happy. Just seeing you. Just knowing you're safe and healthy and loved."
"Then why are you crying?" Luna tilted her head, confused.
Because you're my babies and you don't know me. Because I held you when you were born and you're calling someone else mama. Because they stole you from me and I can't even tell you the truth.
But Lyra couldn't say any of that. She couldn't traumatize them.
They were just children. Innocent in all of this.
"Sometimes people cry when they're happy," Lyra lied gently.
"Happy tears."
"Oh." Luna seemed to accept this. She took a small step forward.
"Can I give you a hug? Mama says hugs make sad people feel better."
The offer broke and healed Lyra at the same time.
Her daughter, offering her comfort even while calling another woman mama.
"I would love that," Lyra whispered.
Luna stepped forward and wrapped her small arms around Lyra's neck.
The feeling of her daughter's embrace after five years of absence made Lyra sob harder.
She held Luna carefully, afraid of holding too tight, afraid of letting go.
Aiden joined them after a moment, his arms wrapping around both of them.
And for just a few precious seconds, Lyra held her children. Her babies.
The two most important people in her entire world.
"You smell nice," Luna said against Lyra's shoulder.
"Like flowers."
"And you smell like sunshine," Lyra whispered back, breathing in her daughter's scent, trying to memorize it.
"That's silly," Aiden giggled. "Sunshine doesn't have a smell."
"Yours does," Lyra said. "It smells like warmth and happiness and everything good in the world."
The twins pulled back, giggling at her strange words. They looked at her with less fear now. With curiosity.
"What's your name?" Luna asked.
The question hurt more than it should have. "Lyra."
"That's a pretty name," Aiden said seriously.
"Thank you, sweet one."
"Can you come play with us tomorrow?" Luna asked hopefully.
"We're going to be in the gardens. Mama lets us play there when it's nice."
The hope in her voice nearly destroyed Lyra. Her daughter wanted to see her again. She wanted to play with her.
Even if she didn't know why, the bond was calling to her.
"I would love that more than anything," Lyra said honestly.
"Promise?" Aiden held out his tiny pinky finger.
Lyra linked her pinky with his, sealing the promise.
"I promise."
The door burst open. Sera stood there, face tight with barely controlled panic.
"Children, come here right now," she said sharply.
The twins jumped at her tone.
They scurried back to Sera, who pulled them behind her protectively.
She looked at Lyra with eyes full of fear and something darker.
Possessiveness.
"Stay away from my children," Sera said quietly enough that the twins couldn't hear.
"They're mine. You gave up that right when you left."
"I'm their mother," Lyra said, her voice stronger now. The brief moment with her children had given her something to fight for. "I will never give up that right."
"We'll see about that," Sera said coldly.
Then her expression shifted, tears filling her eyes as she turned back to the party.
"Someone help! She tried to take the children! She tried to kidnap them!"
Lies.
All lies.
But the pack wouldn't know that. They would believe Sera, the Luna who'd been here for five years.
Not Lyra, the stranger who'd abandoned her post.
Guards rushed in.
Helena appeared, her face a perfect mask of concern.
"I'm afraid we can't allow you near the children anymore, Lyra," Helena said gently, like she was being kind.
"For their safety. You're clearly disturbed. Perhaps you should rest. You've had a long journey."
"They're my children," Lyra said again, but her voice was weaker now.
Defeated.
Because what could she do? Fight the entire pack? Traumatize her children by forcing them to come with a stranger?
They didn't know her. They didn't want her.
Fighting would only hurt them more.
"Escort her to guest quarters," Helena ordered. "Make sure she rests. We'll discuss this situation when everyone is calmer”.
They led Lyra away from her children's voices.
Away from the party celebrating the life that should have been hers. Away from everything she'd survived five years of hell to return to.
In a small, bare room at the edge of the pack house, they left her alone. No guards posted outside because where would she go? This was her pack. Her territory. Her home.
Except it wasn't anymore. She was the intruder now. The threat. The scary lady who made children cry.
Lyra sat on the narrow bed and stared at her hands. The same hands that had held her newborn babies five years ago. The same hands that had just held them again, feeling how much they'd grown, how much she'd missed.
She'd promised to play with them in the gardens tomorrow. She'd made a pinky promise to her son. She couldn't break that. She wouldn't.
Tomorrow she would see her children again. Tomorrow she would start rebuilding the bond they should have had all along. It would take time, she understood that now. They didn't know her. They loved Sera. But blood called to blood. Eventually, they would know the truth.
Eventually, they would know she was their real mother.
Lyra held onto that hope like a lifeline as she curled up on the bed, exhaustion finally overtaking her grief. She will rest tonight. Tomorrow she will fight for her children.
Tomorrow she would begin to reclaim everything that had been stolen from her.
CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHTTHE FIRE Raven and Lyra stepped into the clearing, their breathing synchronized as they began their training session. The sun beat down on them, casting drowsy shadows on the forest floor. They moved together in sync, their feet crunching the dried leaves on the ground. Lyra, with her dark hair tied back, focused on her opponent. Raven was quick, her movements fluid and unpredictable. But Lyra was determined to best her.Just as Lyra landed a strike, a loud crash echoed through the forest, making them freeze. The sound was like thunder, but it didn't sound like thunder. It was sharper, more metallic. " What was that?" Lyra asked, her eyes wide.Raven's grip on her sword tightened. "I don't know, but let's check it out."“ Could it be the… the lone wolves hanging around?!” “ We won’t find out until we find out. And it’s best we find out whatever that is.” Raven said. “ Alright then, let’s go.” Lyra said. They moved cautiously towards the source of the noise,
CHAPTER TWENTY SEVENBLOOD IN WATER Sanghiel walked down to where the young man stood. His men was already standing close to the horses, ready for to move. He took two long strides and got to where they stood, their head slightly bowed, a sign of respect.“ Your lordship.” They chorused. “ And where is the young man who claimed to have smelt Tyrone in the cave?” Sebastian asked, paying no attention to their greeting.“ I am right here, your lordship.” The young man said, taking a step forward.“ And what is your name again?”“ Holman, your lordship.”“ You better pray that it wasn’t an error you made as you might incur my wrath upon you.”The young man maintained a straight face, trying to hide his fear. “ Yes, your lordship.” He responded.“ Now, take us to the exact spot.” Sebastian turned to face Ashel. “ And where is my other horse, Devils eyes?”“ In the stall, your lordship.” Ashel responded.“ Now I want you all to be at alert while we are in the woods. Keep your sniffing ab
CHAPTER TWENTY SIX ARROWS AND BOWS It was morning already. The sun outside was slowly rising. The air was crisp and cool, filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the chirping of birds. Dew still glimmered on the grass, and the shadows were long and dark, stretching out like nature's own fingers. The morning mist swirled gently, adding a mystical touch to the scene. Lyra was lost in the depths of slumber, her body curled up in a tight ball as she clenched her shirt neatly folded around her head as a pillow. The night had been long, and the exhaustion had finally caught up with her. Raven walked into the tent, wiping the water dripping from her hair. She watched Lyra sleeping for a couple of seconds before deciding to wake her up.Lyra didn't stir even as a wet, soggy shirt was thrown at her, hitting her squarely on the face." Wake up, Lyra! We've got training to do!" Raven said in a loud voice was jolting Lyra from her sleep. She sat up with a start, the wet shirt falli
CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE LADY GWEN Sebastian pulled the curtains wide open as he moved on to the special space his weapons were neatly stacked on the wall. He ran his hands over some of the blades, his eyes glinting with pride as he remembered every story behind how he got each special blade. Every blade had his tears, his sweat and determination boldly written over them.He picked one of the swords and slowly unsheath it. The light coming in from the opened windows shone brightly into the room, the ray of light shining brightly on the tip of the sword. He smiled bitterly, his eyes fixated on the blades. He couldn’t even remember when last he had to leave the territory to fight a war. He had trained able bodied men to take control and deal with any arising issue regarding the territories. There was a soft knock on the door just as the door pushed open. His young mistress, Gwen, stepped into the room, her gown floating around her legs. The gown she was putting on had so many crystals on
CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR THE CLUE Lord Sebastian pacers around his inner chamber, his mind burdened by the mysterious disappearance of his younger brother, Tyrone. Tyrone has always been the extremely wild one amongst the two of them and his uncontrolled wildness had led to their banishment. But no matter how stubborn and reckless Tyrone has always been, he always reported back to him and has never stayed out of the pack for more than a day without permission from him. It was quite a wonder that Tyrone had decided on that faithful day that he would be the one to guard the Eastern territory. It was something he has never done. And now, he has stayed from the territory for more than a week. There was a loud knock on the door, jolting hun out of his thoughts. Two of Sebastian men, Talon and Ashewo came in. They bowed slightly in respect.“ Good day, your lordship.” “ I am yet to receive any positive news about Tyrone’s disappearance from the kingdom. Is he back yet? Have your men found a
CHAPTER TWENTY THREE APOLOGIES Lyra stepped out of the tent, her bare feet touching the cold wet grass. Raven was nowhere to be seen outside but she could see a fire at the other side burning slowly. She walked closer, squinting her eyes to see why I was there. Raven was sitting close to the fire, listening to the calmness of the night, the distant slap of water from the lake against the nearby rocks and the crickets chirping loudly. Lyra walked up to where she sat and sat down beside her. Raven didn’t say a word. She just continued staring straight at the fire as if she didn’t notice Lyra’s presence. Lyra cleared her throat and spoke up.“ I’m sorry.” There was no response. Raven just continued staring at the fire like like she didn’t hear what she had said. “ I went about the whole thing childishly. I judged you and didn’t properly ask question. And I did that out of fear. I’m sorry.” There was no response again. Lyra felt bad. She must have hurt Raven so bad with her accusat
